  • Hi everyone you are doing so well its absolutely great . I havent posted on here this week but both myself and DH still doing well and when I went to Nhs support yesterday carbon reading was 1. We are now finished with our NHS support and the nurse said I could either take the rest of the champix or come off them gradually. I have often forgot to take the tablets especially the evening one and there doesnt seem to be much difference in how I feel. I think I will just take my tablet when I feel the need to.I am especially pleased for DH who has done really well and although he has put on quite a bit of weight he seems so determined to remain a non smoker this time around which helps me a great deal. I have nothing but praise for this thread and the support. I am now on week twelve I think I am starting to forget so just want to say to everyone it is so definately worth it keep up the good work all.
  • Hi sue thanks i'm trying to drink more water, and i think it probably is the patches!

  • hi everyone

thanks sue for your encouragement and naomi too-you are doing really well hun - keep it up!
i smoked 6 yesterday so have 3 left. it's 12.30 and i've not yet felt the need to smoke one! it's almost like i have to smoke them so they are gone!!
anyway tomorrow will be my first smoke free day , first day of the month and all that.
strange thing is my OH is still smoking and it doesn't even bother me when he goes off out for a fag (we always used to go together).
i am looking forward to putting my first £25 in the sealed tin i have ready on monday as i am going to save all the money i would've spent as in theory i won't miss it :j
    by xmas i should have £1175 that i would've otherwise wasted :T
catch you all later i imagine i will be here a bit more once i quit completely so take care all x x x
    smoke free since 01/02/09 :T
thanks to all those who've helped
  • hi, today was officialy my give up day and i have failed. i only lasted about 20 mins after getting up this morning and then before i knew it i was at the back door with a coffee and a cig in hand, i didn't even try and fight it. i really really enjoy that first cig of the day and that is going to be the hardest one to give up i think but i don't know how to vary my routine in the morning so its not the first thing i reach for. also i am off work for the next week so i will be tempted all day when i am board. i have made a list of things i hate about smoking.

1, smelly breath (even worse if i've had a coffee also)
2, spending a small fortune on mints, gum and body spray to mask the smell
3, yellow fingernails on my right hand
4, having to wash my hair every day
    5,clothes smellin of smoke
6, kitchen smelling of smoke that then penetrates the rest of the house
7,yellow teeth (spent loads getting my teeth whitened when i stopped a couple of years ago now they are ruined again)
8, them lines you get around your mouth that you can tell when a persons a smoker - i don't have them yet but will soon
9, getting out of breath going up stairs, running for bus ect
    10,it costs me aprox £1500 a year
    11, its killing me!

does anyone have any other things i can add to my list to help keep me strong. i will try again tommorow as its the first of the month and all that.
    thanks sue for your encouragement.

    Hi BadPenny,

I'm not sure what else you can add to the list really, it's a personal thing. One thing I hated was giving people a lift in my car as it stank of stale smoke.

Don't worry about NOT stopping today, I literally spent the whole of last year trying to stop :o I think I hold the world record for most quit attempts

How are you doing it? cold turkey? Have you thought about visiting your GP surgery/practice nurse? You could find out what options are available and the support is generally very good.

    Hi everyone

I'm sorry to hear your day didn't go according to plan badpenny *hug* But try again tomorrow!

I'm proud to say that I've got through the day without smoking, I can't believe it! I had a LOT of moments where I thought I'll just have one, nobody will know! But I talked myself out of it, had plenty water and OJ, and kept myself busy. I took myself off out this afternoon to wander around the shops, but I actually found that more difficult than being in the house, as I only ever smoked outdoors. Still, one day in, so hopefully I'll get through my second day - I'm taking a day at a time! In between the craving moments when I thought I'd give in, I actually had times when I thought hey, this is easier than I thought. Hmm, the I want to cave moments were more often though!

Keep it up everyone, it's so good to hear everyone's success stories, it's gives me a boost.

14 days smoke free is wonderful for you Naomi!! :TI do hope you feel so very proud of yourself at your achievements so far! Keep going and keep up the great positive feeling you have adopted this time, it's serving your well!!!:D

Hi jeaniej! It sounds as though you're both doing wonderfully well,:T it's also wonderful to hear just how proud your are of your DH and so you should be, but be just as proud of yourself as it's been a battle for BOTH or you, a battle that I hope you both can win! Praise your DH up as much as you can and keep supporting each other continuously. Don't worry too much about your DH's weight as that can be worked on further down the line; though he can also slot exercise in now to help with any problem times too. Do what you think is best with the tablets and if your body no longer needs them or as many then I suppose there's little point in taking them (though I don't know that for sure), but don't stop taking them if it means caving in!!! Keep using water and plenty of it, also start using the OJs, clementines, ice pops etc to help you. A day at a time Jeanie and you'll BOTH get to the finishing line!!! Keep coming to the thread and we'll give you plenty of support, should you need it!

Very well done indeed Katie!:T That must have been quite a temptation after the lovers tiff - BUT - you made it and really sound so proud at having got through it all without that horrible crutch! Keep up the water as well as all the other tips, especially fresh OJs as well as clementines. Keep up the strength you proved you have after the tiff Katie - you CAN and WILL succeed if you keep like that!!:j

A good idea with using the 1st of the month Lou, times like that really do boost you to start well and keep it up! I'm so pleased to read you're so looking forward to putting that first £25 in the sealed tin as it'll be a great incentive to keep you going. Stay strong Lou, you've come a very long way already!:T

Hi BadPenny, never mind, let's hope today (the 1st) will be a successful one for you, though in order for that to happen you really need to try harder to alter the morning time enough to get you through 'that' particular time. Wherever it is that you place 'them' for the morning, try placing a banana, apple in their place and have that instead, then go and clean your teeth and plunge yourself into housework, even if it's only so much to start with. Or get straight up and go on out for a walk or do indoor exercises. If you don't have a shower/bath in the morning, then perhaps change it around so you do! It'll be so very worth doing if it can get you passed the raw starting point. I agree with Naomi about visiting your GP surgery/practice nurse for help and guidance. A good list you've put together, now try one with all the benefits of quitting and put both in a prominent place.

Very well done Aeshna!!! :TA day at a time is the best attitude ...just as ignoring the "I'll just have one, nobody will know!" moments is too!!! You've found that going round the shops isn't the best idea for you, that's fine at least you tried it! Keep it up Aeshna, you know you can do it if you stay strong and strengthen the resolve every day! Well done with having plenty water and OJ, and keeping yourself busy, that's what I call helping yourself!!

All best wishes everyone, stay strong and have a lovely Sunday - smoke-free!!!

  • hello everyone
well i had 3 to smoke yesterday , but i couldn't stomach the last one so OH can smoke it !!
i've been feeling less and less bothered with the cigarettes since about day 4/5 on the champix.
so here goes my first smoke free day and i'm not too bothered to be honest!
hope you are all doing ok
    lou
    smoke free since 01/02/09 :T
thanks to all those who've helped
  • Hey louse good to hear you getting on ok on your first smoke free day :D

Thanks Sue yeah it did feel great once i'd calmed down that i didn't give in :) Also my grandad (my whole world) hates smoke and i seen him yesterday and he's sooooooo proud and pleased for me.

I had a lazy day today with it being Sunday and usually 8am first thing i do is slap a patch on but i didn't put one on today until 11ish and i felt all dizzy and head rush lol so i'm going to try the lower patch from tomorrow as it actually feels horrible but i feel i still need them...... I'm finding it's more the habit with my hands i have to keep typing or writing or playing with pens just to keep my hands busy lol

But so far today is gooood :)

Hope everybody else is doing well today xxx

  • Badpenny, i was the same i had so many failed attempts and it was the morning one i found the hardest for the last 5/6 years i haven't eaten breakfast.... my breakfast was cup of tea in one hand and fag in the other lol. And now i still find mornings hard. Are you trying it with any NRT?

Like Naomim said i think it's personal reasons for people stopping smoking, my reasons were similar to yours and especially the mouth, i really don't want a mouth that resembles a cats bum *ahem* My teeth, i'm only 22 and my teeth are horrible :( My skin, because my two cousins only have one year between them and the one that smokes looks 20 years older. My daughter, anytime i kiss her i'm breathing smoke all over her and i read your children are more likely to smoke if their parents do. And my health i've realised how unfit it's left me 30 minutes at the gym and i can barely breathe, Also i want to train as a midwife who's going to want a midwife stinking of stale smoke around their newborn baby.

Infact my list is endless so i'll stop there lol but i'm glad i've just reminded myself of all my many reasons :D
