I'm so pleased it worked for you adarynefoedd, we all need the sleep nd I'm pleased you enjoyed a good night!

Of course it's a good sign DUKE, it has to be! Well done on staying true to your goal. I hope you're ok now and getting over the op alright. If not then take care until you are.

Don't fret Aeshna. 2 scarves for me please! :j 3 and a bit days isn't long though you won't find it affects you so much in a few days time. Are you drinking plenty of water and having enough OJs? Both really make a difference, so does peeling clementines and eating apples. Also don't forget the ice pops, cheap lollies and sour lemon sweets as all of those are a great benefit. Knitting is a great way of keeping your hands and mind focused, I must start again, though I love it for a while then get a bit bored with it. :confused:Keep up that strength Aeshna and vent as much as you wish! We're listening!!:D

You're doing so well Naomi, you really sound as though you're getting there! No doubt you're right with both your grumpy thoughts, both are definately factors for getting stressed and grumpy, but each day sees you getting further away from the thoughts.

The thing I noticed most was the lack of stinking ash trays. I always cleaned mine out thoroughly before going to bed, but it never truly lost that disgusting smell until they were gone. Memories of that are quick to surface when anyone talks of 'ash trays' - yuk!!!!

Keep it up everyone! With each new day you're all getting closer and closer to that beautiful goal and will have achieved something so amazing when you're there. :T :D

  • I know what you mean about the ash trays Sue - only thing is I have made OH quit with me (he should have done it ages ago due to his health probs) and he insists on keeping a couple in the house for when family come round that smoke. The ashtrays stink something rotten - even though there is no ash whatsoever - and so does a coat I dragged out of the back of the cupboard the other day - was my smoking coat for want of a better phrase because I always went out in it.

Well done to everyone - once you get into it it's amazing how quick the time goes - I have to keep reminding myself that "yes it has been that long since the last ever cig". Started on a diet now so definately gonna get myself a lot healthier than I've probably ever been.

    Good luck to all xx

    Hi Everyone

I posted on this thread last summer when I stopped smoking and was just having a little look to see how peoplem are getting on.

To everyone in the early days, I cannot recommend this thread enough - it helped get me through. IT DOES GET BETTER. I quit back in June and hardly ever think about cigarettes at all - when I first stopped I was sending myself dizzy thinking about them constantly !!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to everyone - you are doing something you should be very proud of

I'm pleased it's not me alone with the ash trays MoonRose77, though I honestly don't think I could bear any in the house now. I do hope your OH's health is much better now he's through with smoking and that it continues to do so with each passing year - yours too of course!

Hi Marge!!! :j Very many congratulations on staying free for all that time and for having quit for good!!! :T It was so wonderful to see your name and to hear how thrilled you are at having finished with cigs and how proud all others will be on achieving their goals.

Thanks so much for dropping in to let us know how you're doing as it really does give 'quitters in progress' the incentive to push on. Brilliant news Marge and very well done!!!

  • Well done to everyone....just keep thinking that as time passes it has to get easier. Well thats what i keep telling myself.

Day 17 for me today - can't believe i've managed it - having no money helps obviously and i have already saved just under £25. Thats been transfered to my savings account tonight :)

I have already noticed that my skin is looking a lot better- more colour and a few people at work have noticed too which is motivating !

I have to admit that i have not been sleeping very well. I am not sure if this is down to giving up smoking or other things i have on my mind at the moment, either way i am hoping that will settle down soon.

Keep up the good work everyone :)

Well done on day 17 already hippy-chicy!!!! :T I'll bet putting the money saved into your savings account really motivated you too. Write down all the other positive things that have happened on quitting, such as your skin and the money saved and all other 'goods' that you've noticed, they'll motivate you even more.

Sleeping problems due to smoking should be settling down now, though it isn't always the case. However, if you know you have other things on your mind then it could still be a combination of both. Try to get as relaxed as possible with a relaxing bath/shower, then a hot drinking chocolate no tea or coffee near bed time. If needed try a little light reading, something romantic perhaps. If you have any problems that can't be solved yet, try your best not to worry over them as worrying won't help them or you! Look ahead to better times when the problems will be passed and you'll have worried yourself for nothing! Get more exercise throughout the day/evening so you'll be physically tired and find it easier to get to sleep and stay sleeping well.

    Good night!

  • Hi everyone, i am on day 2 trying to give up. I am using patches (get them free with working for NHS) only thing is OH doesnt want to give up so its making it hard for me. Went out last night took patch off and smoked 6 cigs. Not bad considering a normally smoke 15-20 a day!

Had 2 this morning but have got patch on and no even wanting one.

Hope i can keep this up. Instead of OH buying 20 everyday i am going to get him some baccy so it lasts longer and not spend as much.

  • I tuned into this thread just after xmas and tried giving up with just will power it last three days. I started giving up on Saturday for the second time and this time using the 21mg patch. Much easier i think!. I'm on a diet as well at the moment so i'm really having to curb the cravings as well and this week i have been so stressed with the snow. Fell over on the ice and ended up with concussion and normally the first thing i would of thought about would be having a fag but i didn't and that surprised me. i found the first night that i had three really odd dreams but i haven't had them since i find it harder to get to sleep at night so i take my patch off and stick a new one on in the morning. I'm not going to come on this thread that often as i find talking about it makes it worse for me and its constantly on my mind.

I gave up the first time on champix and it was terrible i was an emotional wreck in tears all the time and would never touch them ever again. However the doctors do warn you of the side effects before and doesn't affect everyone. Good luck everyone.

I have had to come off champix, stopped on sunday as it was making me so ill, couldnt sleep for very vivid dreams, feeling sick, being sick and then becoming very low which is not like me. I gave up fags on monday as that was my date with champix went to my stop smoking clinic on monday night really needing some help but it was all locked up due to the snow!!! still now day 4 of no fags although I still feel rather low and have some strange physical effects too although that could be lack of nicotine. I'm not hugely craving cigs but just feel apathetic in general. my sister and her partner started the champix same day as me and they are working for her she seems very upbeat. will go to clinic on monday and see what help they might be able to offer. well done everyone who has got through another day
