  • My brother in law stopped smoking years ago and could really explain how it happened.

He was offered a free hypnotherapy session in a Northern shopping centre.

No Staff as such...just a room with a couch and a multimedia presentation.

Afterwards he went home thinking nothing had happened.

ONLY when he went to the pub did the smell of cigarette smoke feel wretched.

    He has not smoked since.

    Talk to me someone!
    Sew long, for now..

You say you have given up, but then say you can have the odd one easily. Which is it?
If you smoke after 'giving up', that makes you a smoker who just smokes less.

Do you want to be on Champix for the rest of your life?

I am just interested, that's all.
    Well done anyway!

No worries.. totally understand why you think that and too be honest reading back on my semi drunk ramblings of friday night i'd probably ask the same thing :)

My point was that i'm a half full kind of guy now and I do look on it as i've had a few blips in the last eleven weeks.. having those blips whilst on champix aren't such an issue as those blips were not enjoyable or satisfying.. I do realise that it's easy to treat these blips with a bit of complacency.. however i'm nearly off the pills now.. (only a week or so to go) hence my line.. I WILL NOT SMOKE AGAIN .. it's hard to explain but being in this situation back in march i'm a bit better prepared for it so I know what to do this time..

I mentioned this to a friend whose given up for a few years and he said that he's given up from his last ciggarette.. BUT he could understand my thinking.. eleven weeks isn't a lot .. for now believing (however much I may be deluding myself) that i've given up for eleven weeks with a few blips is a lot easier than the alternative.

I still haven't explained it how I would like to but I hope that you sort of understand where I'm coming from?

P.S> HAPPY MONTHIVERSARY TO YOU :):)

The power of persuasion is a strong thing. Many people give up through hypnotism and some are more "open" to this persuasion whether they want to or not. It's not all "look into my eyes" these days ;) Having been hypnotised I'll also say most people don't think it's worked on them as they feel no different until they notice a change.

Are you a smoker wanting to stop TMA?

Lou, that is so good to read, I hope it all works out fine and that you're able to never smoke another again! I wish you well!!!

Good to read about your Granddad Katie, it's wonderful to have someone display such a pride in our quitting and I'm really hoping that your Granddad's pride, as well as your own! will really urge you to never be tempted again! Keep making both of you proud Katie, playing with the pens etc to distract you too! All the very best with your training as a midwife!!

Good to hear about your B-I-L ThatManAgain. It's always good to hear of successes and how they came about and hypnotherapy works for some but not all - I'm pleased it worked for him.

Hi Waspy, that's a very fair explanation of what you're meaning and I'm sure Graeme will think so too. All the best with keeping strong and keeping going!

Keep strong everyone, a whole fresh and healthy week ahead for you all!!

Hi smytt and very well done on having a month behind you already!!! :T I sincerely hope you can carry on and stick to it this time. I've sent a PM with a little help in keeping quit, I'm just going to send you one with some slimming help ( I hope!). Don't worry too much about losing weight at present, though with care, it is possible to not put much weight on while quitting. Have a look at the PM and see what you think. I really do wish you so much luck with both! Don't worry too much about the scales as ...you are what you are, the scales will just put a number to it, though seeing it may also give you a little more incentive to lower it!

Best wishes and above all else - keep off the fags!!! :T

  • STILL ON PATCHES still have not smoked. Awful vivid dreams though blame the patches even of finding a packet of the dreaded Dunhill (remember them?) in the car and smoking one. Has anybody tried downsizing early the patches to the day time one only? I do not think I can stand these dreams for much longer.

Thanks for your support all stick with it.

the patches kept me awake!! I stopped on 12/1/09, and stopped taking the patches 4 days ago. I stepped down to 7mg patch (cutting the 14 ones in half) for a week, the from last thursday evening nothing at all - what strength patches are you using?

    Hi everyone!

I didn't make it on here to post last night as I was too busy being a grumpy pig, chatting online with my OH :o Anyhow, I'm not going to think about that right now, so moving swiftly on!!

Day 2 down and no ciggies :j Unfortunately my plan to bring my quit date forward means it's also TOTM and I was just an emotional wreck last night! I just went to bed early, figured if I was sleeping I wouldn't be craving OR crying! Mind you, I haven't slept as well as normal the last couple of nights, but it's not like I've been awake for hours on end or anything, just restless.

I really thought I'd be finding it tough in the morning, but I'm actually struggling a lot more last thing at night, I don't really understand why. Still, I've started day 3 ciggy free, so we'll see how it goes - back to work today and just waiting for the boss to arrive and do her usual - invite me outside for a smoke!! Can't wait to see the look on her face when I decline! Not sure how I'll cope with the smell of it though, when she comes back in......

    Keep it up everyone!

adarynefoedd I tried giving up using patches about, oh, 5 years ago, and I swear they made me loopy! I couldn't sleep at night, I was hyper, it was a nightmare! I know they work well for a lot of people, and in restrospect it may be that the strength I was using was too much. Also, I would just use them during the day - let's face it, you don't smoke at night anyhow! Hope that you work it out and get rid of those terror dreams!

badpenny, where have you got to honey? I hope you managed to stick to your quit date yesterday, but if you didn't, please come back and post here, everyone wants to help!
