Right.. haven't been on MSE for a while now but had to post again coz a few things to say! ;)

anyone on champix .. DON'T go somewhere where you get given a fortune cookie!!!.. got one a few weeks ago that said all my dreams will come true.. those of you that know me know that this is probably the last thing I wanted

anyway.. it's been nearly 11 weeks now and (being honest with you all) i've had about 4 or 5 ciggies in that time  :o:( BUT if you tell me  .. that i've only given up since my last ciggie then i'd easily give up giving up .... however if i convince myself that i've given up for eleven weeks then.. :T :T  :j :j :j and so on :D

not sure what my point is here but felt i had to post even if it's just to say to say hello :):)

seriously though .. it's easy for me to have the odd one and not want anymore.. thats the beauty of champix .. but any of you that are taking it.. DON'T bother.. it's not worth it.. I'VE GIVEN UP AND WILL NOT SMOKE AGAIN!

P.S SUE YOU ARE AN :A

The main reason i want to quit is financial but i will always find the money for cigs (or bum them off oh) i need some other reasons to keep me strong. i am going to have my fianal fag now and then go to bed. wish me luck for tommorrow.

My main reason this time was coz I want to see my nephew grow up (doubt i'll ever have kids of my own) .. financial and health reasons never seemed to work for me. :(

whatever reason you decide GOOD LUCK

Wonderful news of your cutting down so much Lou!! :TI'm so pleased that Champix is working out so well. With the habitual cigs, change things round a bit so that you're doing things which you wouldn't link with cig times. Depending on what you normally do after you drop the kids off at school, do something totally different, go straight off for a walk, clean the car, pop to a friend (non smoker!;)) or go shopping ..anything that differs from the normal pattern. The same applies to work lunch breaks and on finishing work, altering things just a little bit can take your mind right away from the norm. Read a book/magazine after your you've eaten your lunch, or a crossword maybe. If you're talking about morning breaks then take a clementine or apple to have when others go into the freezing cold.:D Good luck for when you start for real, you really do deserve to succeed!!!

Congratulations on keeping free from those dirty, smelly sticks adarynefoedd!! :TThe feelings you describe are perfectly normal for any recent quitter, so keep up the willpower, use the tips and you WILL make it!!!

It sounds as though you may well be better off if you did give up fully HHH. I'm so pleased you had that word with yourself about worry, well done as there's so little point!! :TConsider also that the worrying itself may have induced the sickness. Do what you think is best re when to stop - and then no worrying at all!! Keep strong and good luck as you're doing so very well!

Congratulations Kirsty!! A month is a long time and a really good milestone! I reckon you deserved that choc cake, though how about one here to celebrate too?!:A

Hi Katie and very well done indeed with that week!! :TIf you're still on patches it may be them that are causing the headaches, either way try plenty of water as that always helps with them, but keep it up with several good sized glasses per day, every day. Also, to help convince you with the "you're NOT missing anything" bit. Stop and think about all the possible illnesses that you'll leave yourself wide open to IF you were to continue! It was that which always worried me sick, don't allow it to happen to you please or every day will be lived in total fear - or worse! You know the score of keeping smoking Katie, say goodbye to it for good and never be tempted as it just isn't worth all the torment!!! Keep strong, look ahead to a healthy life and money saved. Use all your willpower and please - use the tips of water OJs etc!:j

Well done skr80!:T You'll soon get passed that part. You did really well with your drink or four without succumbing. Go on skr80, keep up the willpower and plug away as you're doing so well, keep up that strength too!

Keep up the willpower folks, no matter what you're using you'll also need that too. Stay strong and renew your resolve every day!

Hi badpenny, we can keep each other company!! We CAN do it you know! My quit was at midnight, so according to my little gadget, I've been 'smober' for 58 minutes and 55 seconds!!!
I'm not sure how I feel about tomorrow (today lol) - I had a real panic earlier on this afternoon thinking, noooo I can't do it, it's too soon! But tonight I came home, stripped and changed the bed, put my jackets etc through the wash, and I'm feeling pretty damn positive. Let's face it, if I go to bed right now and sleep for 8 hours, it'll be nearly 9 hours without a ciggy by the time I'm up - if that was waking hours, well hey, would you believe it?!! I'm rambling I know! The house is in a right state, I've left the kitchen in a heap, but I purposely stopped myself from doing anything with it tonight - it'll give me plenty to keep me occupied tomorrow! Got stocked up on clementines and OJ, as well as mixed dried fruits, so I'll have goodies to keep me going and not snack on rubbish.

Wow, I'm a non-smoker! Oh jeez, let's see what tomorrow brings shall we?? :rotfl:

Keep up the good work everyone!

Hi there Waspy and about time you returned to the fold!! So you think I'm an Angel eh! Easy to say that after admitting to having some of those dirty little devils!!! :naughty:Seriously Waspy, no looking back, just push on ahead and count the 11 weeks with a couple of minor blips, far better to look at it that way and keep quit! After memories of you and your dreams I did giggle about the promises of that darned fortune cookie!!! As if anyone would wish for yours to come true!!:rotfl: So, is that a promise that you WILL NOT SMOKE AGAIN?! I sincerely hope so - for your dear nephew's sake!!:j

You WILL make it Waspy, you know you're perfectly able, now carry it out ......for keeps and for YOU!!!

Hi BAD PENNY, of course you can join us, you're very welcome! You say you know that smoking is bad for you, but delve into the word "Bad" a little deeper and ask yourself if you're really willing to put yourself at risk of all the things that smokers!!! Read the paragraph about health issues that I wrote to Katie above and ask yourself if you want that!!! I'd love to read that your main reason you want to quit for is your health, then make the finances the 2nd reason!!! I wish you all the very best to quit and to stay that way for life - the good of yours - as that's the greatest gift you'll give yourself!!

Take notice of the tips sheet, plenty of water, OJs as well as clementines, all fresh fruit and exercise! All the very best!

    Sue

Hi Aeshna, with an attitude like the above you WILL beat this filthy, dirty habit! I love reading positive posts and yours is just that. A great way of looking at the housework, sleep hours too .....it really does help! Keep up the resolve Aeshna, the will power too!!!

You say you have given up, but then say you can have the odd one easily. Which is it?
If you smoke after 'giving up', that makes you a smoker who just smokes less.

Do you want to be on Champix for the rest of your life?

I am just interested, that's all.
    Well done anyway!

    Hi All,

Lou, you are doing so well and I am really pleased that the champix haven't had the effect you were worrying about. To be completely honest, what you wrote on day 9 was exactly what I wrote on the same day (I think ). However for me it was a little too soon and I didn't STOP until day 14 but I have now done 14 days smoke free :j

HHH I'm sorry you are not feeling so great with the champix. If it continues, go and see your practise nurse or GP as they will lower the dose again.

I also agree with you Waspy, financial and health reasons never did it for me either and I saw my Dad die from emphysema and an asthma attack after being a lifelong heavy smoker. I was only 18 so I KNEW the dangers. However, I have really enjoyed watching my quit meter these last two weeks and realising how much money I haven't spent and that I still have money in my purse.

I like your thinking Aeshna, if you quit at midnight and go to bed, the first 8 hours are a doddle ;) It's a good idea to keep the house in a state in the evening to give you something to keep busy on in the morning. I've found my housework is getting done more and quicker. I don't stop after every job to "reward" myself now.

    Have a good day everyone. I am on 1week 6days 14 hours - 244 not smoked :eek::o:D
