Well it has now been one week, nine hours and forty seven minutes. I am really proud of myself, I didnt think I would last this long and although I am on Champix I thought it would be harder than it has been but I suppose I shouldn't speak too soon!
  • A giving up update - I'm still smoke free and have been since 5th December :j I was on Champix, and probably should still be, but I kept forgetting to take it and it was a bit of a faff having to go to Fag Ends, and then take the letter requesting the prescription to my Dr, etc. So I've stopped taking it and still feel fine and not wanting to smoke. I think my own willpower/bloody mindedness has kicked in!!

Keep it up everyone - you're all doing brilliantly :D

Skint - *hugs* for you - if you want anyone else to vent to in a pm feel free

Well done to everyone else on their smoke-free lives and hi to those just starting on this amazing journey

You're doing remarkably well ljs2000, especially as that vital first week is a wonderful amount of time you've gone for - Champix or not!!! :T Our success ...or not is more often related to how we feel about quitting, maybe you're more determined than ever before to really achieve your dream now! Good luck in your quest and continue to be proud a ....you well deserve to be!

Congratulations Eriberri!!!:T That is a good long while and you should be really proud of your achievement! I wouldn't worry about the Champix, you're not the first to stop taking it before the time's up. I think you're right with it being your own willpower/bloody mindedness having kicked in, that all makes a heck of a difference and with luck you'll be successful in going all the way and staying quit!!!!

The same applies to you also MoonRose77. Congratulations on almost 5 & 1/2 weeks free from it all!!!:T I know you're so proud at how well you've done, rightly so too! What some money you've saved - already!!! Keep that strength up and stay focused on that goal!

All best wishes for the success of everyone, keep strong and you WILL get there!

Well done everyone, you are all doing great:j

skintandscared I am so sorry to hear your news. Youth is actually a huge benefit in those cases and remember, don't look on the glass as half empty, look on it as half full.

3 weeks and one day for me now :D It was funny but over the weekend I had this massive urge to go buy just 10, thats all I could think of was ..just 10. I somehow think this 3 week stage is designed to trip us up. I got past it even though I was slightly narky. I just went and baked tons and tons of cakes and biscuits. The boys at work love me this week :rotfl: they have a fridge full of goodies

I also decided that if I did smoke, I would be letting all you guys down also so went and read Sue's PM again and took some deep breaths before scolding that nicotine monster

Well - just over 2 weeks now for me. I have been using the 'patches' and have stepped down the doseage this week to the lowest (7mg) ones. Well actually, I am cutting the 14mg ones in half and using each half for a day. (moneysaving??)
I found that, so far, with the higher dose patches, I was not sleeping too well - having taken it off before sleep - I was waking up very early morning, and wondered if that was a nicotine withdrawal going on.
I know patches don't work well for everyone, but for me (so far) seem to be a relatively painless way to step down the nicotine intake whilst breaking the smoking habits / addictions (fag after food, at work etc).
I suspect the next test will be the full nicotine withdrawal when I get rid of the patch altogether....

Keep it up folks - and well done everyone so far :)

ps - still got the pdf Allen car book if anyone wants a copy emailed to them..

Hi All and well done on the continuing quitting.

I'm doing well with the smoking but I am a bit stressed at the moment. My best friend is 36 weeks pregnant and was made redundant back in February 2008. She couldn't get another permanent job so did temp work. This week is her last week of employment. The government have lost her application for maternity allowance and have told her she has to re-complete the forms and there is a 5 week backlog, her husband got made redundant in December and has also not found any other work and her Grandad died on Sunday. She lives about an hour and half drive from me so it's not like I can just pop over in the evening and I'm so worried about her situation... sorry rambling on now but this thread is my spritual home (for now ;))

I'm going to see if she wants me down for the weekend...

Hi everyone. Just wanted to say that althought I don't post much, I do love reading all your stories, successful and otherwise, and find it all so friendly and helpful. Thank you so much to all of you :T

I'm back from my holiday, survived with no backsliding - counter says 3w 6d! Still using patches, they suit me, but this time I'll cut down gradually, instead of stopping them dead. I'm sure that's why I fell off the wagon last time:o

Thanks again to everyone out there.

    An update from me....

Well I'm still hanging on in there.... 7 Days now.... but on Saturday and Sunday I cracked :( **Sorry**

I had a Ciggie on Saturday Night (as a Reward for sorting out our trip to London) then on Sunday I had a silly row with O/H which resulted in Smoking 2 more as well as loads of very angry puffs on the Inhalator  !!

However .... in an odd way I think its been a good thing. I was so annoyed with myself for giving in to the temptation that I've not used my Inhalator for 2 whole days :T

I'm getting through it by Chewing (normal) Gum every time I have a craving & after every meal, I'm eating lots of Grapes and I've also just filled a big Jar with Dried Fruit & Nut Mix so I have Healthy snacks to hand.... it seems to be working so far :p !!!

I also signed up to the Nicorette Active Stop website which I started yesterday - Its a bit like online Thearpy session :rotfl: Today I had to write a Goodbye Letter to my Cigarettes, telling them why I was leaving them and what a great time we used to have together (It was quite emotional!!):rotfl:

More good news is that my O/H is also thinking of giving up now that he has seen how easy it was for me

I really hope I can keep it up now :D

Well done everyone, fantastic to see everyone doing well :D It will get easier as each day goes by. Our reward for stopping is a healthier future and plenty more £££'s to spend on doing the things you like and not wasting it on something you think you enjoy but want to stop at the same time!
