Have now done 25 days. That is 600 hours!!!
I normally would smoke one ciggie per hour, so if we take 8 hours a day out of that for sleeping, that is 400 waking hours without a cigarette.
400 ciggies I have not smoked :rotfl:
Come on people0 -
Well after me saying that i can't imagine an event could happen where I would think smoking would help, I did. Found out on Wednesday that my nephew is not the stage 2 Hodgkins we thought, he's stage 4. It's all over his poor little body. His chances of beating it have dropped overnight from 90% to 50% and I'm in bits. Went out and got some fags and have smoked since. Saw him yesterday and he's still quite perky which put me to shame. Stopping again tomorrow. Feel ashamed, sick and permanently panicky. I need to talk to someone about my worries I think. They have nothing to do with smoking and smoking won't help.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

Pick up the phone and speak to someone. You need to hear someone's voice, and you need to talk about this. If you talk about how you are feeling, your fears, etc, putting a sound to an emotion gets it out of the washing machine that is your head (everything spinning) and puts it into perspective.
If you don't want to ring a friend of family member, I would try the Samaritans. They are not for suicide victims only, and offer a friendly, understanding ear.
Or try the Macmillan Cancer support helpline.
When you have spoken to another human being, you will feel better and desire a cigarette less.
I think the ciggies are making you feel very guilty, which is a crap emotion.
Good luck0 -
Hello, Ive got my Zyban now and Im on day 5...cigarettes already dont taste the same and i'm not getting the same enjoyment from them, they taste and smell horrible...however, the instructions say to set a quit date in week 2 and I want to do it properly to make sure it has the best chance of working. so I'm going to wait a few days. My mum comes up to visit at the weekend and i'd like to not smoke in front of her, so maybe itll be friday which will be day 10!
The one thing that concerns me is the reports of side effects, I havent noticed any yet, but I seem to be fixated on the fact that I might or might not get depressed! Silly really....anyway, well done to all that are succeeding, and if you've had a slip up, pick yourself up and try again!Wins 2012: £50 Love2Shop voucher, Lets Dance tickets, Juan Zelades CD, bluetooth speaker, Blackberry 9360 with £30 credit a month, Chocolate, Maybelline Goodie Bag, Hunter wellies!0 -
hi Lou,
Did the woman successfully quit? I think maybe not and becuase one method didn't suit her she might feel a failure and want to put everyone else off that method. Please try not to worry, I have had NO side effects at all and I've done 3 weeks on the champix now so I'm on the full dose and not anticipating anything happening. Some people can take asprin and some can't. Not all people can take all medicine and just because it doesn't suit one doesn't mean it doesn't suit another. Please stick with it for a while and try not to worry. :grouphug: (dodgy hug for you)
Hi Mrs Moc and welcome,
You're doing really well and obviously a huge incentive to stop. The first time I quit was when I was pregnant and I will say it took me a good few weeks to be comfortable. Have a good read through this thread and utilise ALL the tips. Try and change your routines as much as possible as that really helped me.
You can do it;)

thanks naomi you have made me feel much better
no,she hasn't quit , we were outside having a fag when she told me all this !
to be honest i have felt fine so far apart from the head aches but i suffer with those anyway,so not really a side effect
will check in again soon,
love and luck to you all and not just with the quitting

I am really trying and am proud of myself, OH is proud aswell yay.
Hope everyone is doing OK Keep it up all you non-smokers and good luck to those beginning the journey.

Well am still going strong, have survived my first week in my new job and have told them all there, so that I cant be tempted whilst at work, but tbh, I dont even really think about cigs any more, I had to look at my silkquit meter earlier to see how long it had actually been, so am feeling quite chuffed!
Good to see that lots of my fellow New Years Resolutionists are still going stong, well done everyone, and to those just starting out, you can do it, and the benefits are great, you smell better, your skin looks better, you "should" have more money, I dont know how I ever used to afford cigs as I am not suddenly wealthy but still its all good, so keep going everyone, and with this fantastic supportive thread we can all do it!0 -
Apologies are never needed on here DUKE, you come on when you need/wish to. Glad the day was a good one for you and that the visit with you Mum was obviously much better than the last! All best wishes for the op and remember to rest and take good care of yourself after it.:)
Good to hear from you again Graeme, though I was very surprised you'd reached 25 days ...already! Congratulations!! :TKeep continuing as you are, very strong and positively! It's served you great so far. PS I've just noticed your amazingly supportive post to "skintandscared" Graeme, it's so good and will have been good for her to read at such a time.
Oh skintandscared, you must have felt so awful on hearing that terrible news. He sounds a gutsy young lad though and will obviously do all he possibly can to fight it furiously and you'll need to be there for and with him through it all too. If his chances of beating it have dropped to 50% then there's still the other 50% that we have to hope and pray is the stronger percentage to pull him through it. At 12 years old all his natural instincts will be 'to LIVE' as he hopefully has a whole life ahead of him, as his aunty your job is to help him in his battle and I'm positive you'll do it!!!!!
OK, so you've had some cigs and we'd all be able to understand exactly why that would be. It's just a blip so as soon as you can, leave them alone and focus more on helping Tom, his parents and siblings as much as is possible. Your sister will need you, and if possible, it will be good if she can at least pass favourable news about your quitting on to Tom, he'll be delighted to know your life is no longer at such risk too!!!;) Graeme's suggestions and words were wonderful, I'm so very pleased he was able to be here for you, I wish I had been too! :mad:I do hope you were able to physically speak to someone about all your fears and help free yourself a little from all the anxieties of the situation, I just hope that is possible - but - if Tom's remaining perky you need to do so as well and pass on the best vibes you can!
Well done fabulous_girl, you've made that all important great start towards stopping! It isn't silly at all to be concerned about side effects, it's natural as we so often hear far too much about some these days, but to cover themselves they need to list anything that has the slightest possibility of affect folk. All too often we don't get any of them, but if depression worries you for specific reasons then have a word with your GP and let him/her check you or just listen to you and take his/her advice. Speak to him/her anyway if it'll help you, he/she will be just so pleased you're helping your health too! Apart from that I think your quit date idea with your mum's visit sounds ideal and I hope she leaves you as a very proud mum would and that that alone will spur you on to quit for good, not just for her sake, but for yours!!! That's what your mum would want!!! Do let us know how it goes and you're welcome to PM should you wish. Don't worry about the depression part as worry alone can often 'put' the false ailment there - don't allow it!!!!
Lou, I'm so pleased Naomi's thoughts about that woman proved to be the case with her NOT having quit!! Show her what happens when we take a far more positive view of things if we aren't always looking for something to blame for a cop out!!! :jShe obviously didn't want to quit at the time, but for her sake, I hope she soon is! Keep on taking extra water for the headaches Lou, we often get them if we're just a little dehydrated even though we're unaware, so guard yourself against it by having a glass first thing in the morning, then mid morning, lunch time, mid afternoon and so on all throughout the day. My hubby's much better with his now he does. I'll bet it at least helps! It'd better now I've said all that!!!
Extremely well done with your "1 week 5 days 20 hours 42 minutes 20 seconds" tigerlilley!!! :j Maybe it's just because it was the weekend that you found it so hard, more relaxed and less to do with your hands perhaps. Whatever it was I think you and your OH should quite rightly be so very proud of yourselves as he's obviously as determined as you and you both coped wonderfully! Well done to you both!!! :T
Welcome to the thread glodh1873!! We will all be wanting you to fulfil your smoke-free dreams so if you need help or to just stay connected to a smoke-free zone - this is it!!!;) I'll send you a PM as I hope there will be some tips to help. Read through the thread too as there's plenty here to keep your mind focused. If you need to holler and shout or just talk, please do so. All the best today and keep focused on your goal ahead but take each day at a time.
Congratulations BlueIsTheColour as that means you and all your fellow quitters are getting so close to a month!!! :T I hadn't realised just how fast this month is going!! Well done with the job, I hope you're really enjoying it. I was delighted to read you'd reached the stage where you hardly think of them. Keep up that great strength Blue, you're so worth it!!!
Have a wonderful week everyone and keep strong, especially IF the devil tries to bully you into submission - kick him where it hurts! I mean his horns for any of you thinking differently!!!:p Remember - water, clementines, ice pops, exercise and something to 'play' with. :j
