Hi Everyone
Just seen this thread, Im on my second day of "giving up" and it is killing me at times. I have read over the last few pages and can definitely say I have the voices in my head convincing me I dont want to stop at all.
Im also pregnant so dont really have a choice in it all. Last month I stopped for 2 weeks and had a row with DH, so was back on them for a few days.
I would really appreciate any help or support going, I find the cravings so hard. Im not using anything just willpower and at times feel like im going to cry.0 -

hi Lou,
Did the woman successfully quit? I think maybe not and becuase one method didn't suit her she might feel a failure and want to put everyone else off that method. Please try not to worry, I have had NO side effects at all and I've done 3 weeks on the champix now so I'm on the full dose and not anticipating anything happening. Some people can take asprin and some can't. Not all people can take all medicine and just because it doesn't suit one doesn't mean it doesn't suit another. Please stick with it for a while and try not to worry. :grouphug: (dodgy hug for you)
Hi Mrs Moc and welcome,
You're doing really well and obviously a huge incentive to stop. The first time I quit was when I was pregnant and I will say it took me a good few weeks to be comfortable. Have a good read through this thread and utilise ALL the tips. Try and change your routines as much as possible as that really helped me.
You can do it;)

Hi guys
On day 6 now of giving up smoking and its been a bit up and down. I've had a few stressful days at work (we are really busy at the moment) but i am determined to do it. The fact that i dont have the money to buy them is helping i think! ha-ha ! But so far have saved around £13 so all good.
Just wanted to say keep at it guys...much easier when you know you have the support of others to get you through.
My boyfriend gave me a tip - when your craving a cigarette, go and do something else for 3 mins this way the craving will either have passed or you will get side tracked and the craving will pass. Pretty useful so far and i've cleaned the house from top to bottom! (Try and avoid food though - obviously not including fruits etc, what i mean is try not to distract yourself with bad foods)

Hi all
Im now 3 wks smoke free and i must admit it feels really good. Im booked in to my local beauty salon on a monthly package to use some of the money i would have spent on smoking to pamper myself. Im booked for a glycolic peel in 2 weeks to try and repair some of the damage smoking has done to my skin!
I think the hardest times are when i finish eating so i try and tidy the kitchen or come on here to take my mind off it.
I got a lovely pm from Sue with some tips so thanks Sue it was very helpful
I think we all deserve a pat on the back for stopping, its really hard to even get as far as setting a quit date, so well done everyone xx:j Stopped smoking - 2nd Jan 09:j0 -
Well done Kirsty.
I also got a really nice PM from Sue containing lots of really helpful hints and tips thanks
Thats a great idea. I might do the same and treat myslef if i can save up enough money !:j0 -
Thanks Hippy. Congrats on being smoke free. I paid out the £20 for the monthly package on payday and spent the rest of the money i usually spend on cigs on decorating my hall and stairs. I was spending about £140 a month on cigs. I spent it so i could encourage myself but also to stop me having the money to buy them!:j Stopped smoking - 2nd Jan 09:j0

Well done all of you...keep going, it does get easier. I found the first two or three weeks the hardest. I bought myself a new pair of boots at the end of week 2 which made me feel better about it. I have managed to stay off them now for three months but I take every day as it comes. Some days its easy and other days hard. My OH still smokes but I make him smoke outside in the garden. I am working to get him to make the decision now. I used NCT, don't think I could have done it on my own but signed up with a scheme through Tesco and only had to pay a one of prescription charge for my first weeks patches. I didn't have to pay for the remaining 7 weeks as long as I committed to going to see the counsellor once a week (who was the pharmacist in the Tesco). Its all about finding a way that works I guess and we are all different. Good luck again to all those giving it a go. I just wish I had done it sooner and that I hadn't smoked the 20 a day for the last 30 years!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 1145DMP mutual support thread member: 264

:j HI all,
I did post on here a few mnths back but i was to embarrassed to post again as i did not stop ..
But i am proud to say that i have been smoke free or 5 whole days:j :j
To be honest so far it has not been what i was expecting it has been sooo easy ! I have not had any cravings only feel a little lost at times i think ummmm what shall i do now i dont think that counts as a craving !
Am very pleased as i have been through a few tricky situations which have included wine and a smoking friend and also a stressfull conversation with ex partner and i did not crumble :T
Although i am having a few withdrawral symtoms such as disturbed sleep ,sweating , phlemy mouth and bunged up nose ,spots, and also constipation , are theese normal ????
Intrestingly i have also not been drinking as much diet coke or coffee which i was addicted to.whilst researching the whole no smoking thing i read an article saying how caffine is less affective when a smoker so that when you stop smoking you should also reduce your intake of caffine ----strange but true .
but the best thing by far is being able to smell my daughters lovely smell without wafts of stale cigarette smoke spoiling it .:T :j :T :j :T :j
good luck to everyone we can do thisRent Arrears [STRIKE]£210[/STRIKE] £110

2 months is a really accomplishment Nikz!!!! :T You're doing so well and, all being well, with your willpower you'll have kicked it right out of your life for good while you're still so very young. Congratulations, how I wish I'd had your sense when I was your age!!!!!:o Keep going strong Nikz, you will do it I'm sure you will
Hi Lou. Good news so far, though don't anticipate too much as it might be fine anyway and the less you worry the better you'll be. Whenever you have a headache, however it's caused, drink plenty of water as it helps them so very much. Don't worry about repeating yourself about finishing dates as it's hard to keep up with everyone and when they quit anyway, so you have no need to worry as it's good to say. I'm so pleased to hear you're so positive - whether it's due to the cough or not, it's still a great sign and a good pattern to set!!! Keep strong! PS. Just read about how the woman enjoyed telling her horror story!!! There's always someone wishing to alarm you - pay absolutely no attention to her Lou, we're all individuals and should treat ourselves accordingly!
Well done on completing a whole 7 days and more by now Naomi, very well done indeed!!! :T With all you said in your post, it really does prove that smoking keeps us stressed, rather than the opposite being the case! I'm glad it isn't just me who soon found that out. You're really doing well and sounding more positive with each new day!! Brilliant work!!! :j
Congratulations adarynefoedd!!!! Yet another of us proving that we don't NEED the blessed things in our lives!!! :T We convince ourselves we do at the time of smoking, we even tell ourselves we 'enjoy' them and even that is soon proven NOT to be true either!! Excuse me but I giggled at <<<"DH + takeaway + Casualty">>> almost as though the 2 former ones equalled a visit to casualty!!! :eek:I sincerely hope not!
Welcome to the thread Mrs Moc and wonderful news that you're giving up the evil weed for the sake of your little one as well as you and your hubby!!! Whenever you feel the need to cry - do so! It'll do you good and is your body telling you it needs to, to cope with things. Don't forget you're going through all sorts of emotions due to the pregnancy anyway, so don't be alarmed or put it down solely to quitting as a mixture of both. Ask your hubby for his love and support to help you through both!!! Naomi has given you some great advice about changing your routines, that really does make a huge difference, especially with the times you find to be the worse ones.
Hi hippy-chicy and very well done on 6 days!! Your boyfriend is one very, very wise guy indeed! :TTake notice of those words, I couldn't have put it better!!! Cleaning the house through is a wonderful aid, very therapeutic too!
Congratulations on 3 weeks smoke free Kirsty, that is wonderful news!!! :T You're doing very well with altering things at the ends of meals etc, very, very sensible and will soon get you out of the routine of missing them. A really great idea with the beauty salon treatment which gives you something to look ahead to as well as being a superb reward! :happylove
Congratulations NEWLIFE WANNABE!!! Three months is wonderful!!!! :TI really do hope your OH will follow your lead so that you can both be free of it, have healthy lives and save!!!
Hello again mammamia2!!!:j OK, so you stopped, but the main thing is that you're back with us again and trying hard to quit. 5 days already is very, very good indeed and I really do hope it's a success for you and that you'll stay strong at all times!! Disturbed sleep ,sweating , phlegmy mouth and bunged up nose aren't withdrawal symptoms, they're what happens as a result of quitting because of all the changes inside us as we go from all that muck inside of us - to clean healthy living folk!I don't know about spots and constipation, but could well be because you get a little tense, even if you don't realise it. The "feeling a little lost at times" is very natural as it's a sort of "I'm missing something, but have no idea what!" It'll pass in time, though it's not uncommon for it to happen now and again later especially at stressful/exciteable times, but it'll pass by so quickly that you won't even remember how long it stayed with you.
Have a lovely, peaceful Sunday everyone and enjoy the new-found freedom you have - you all deserve it so much!
