Going for an interview so soon after quitting adarynefoedd was so brave but to cope with it so amazingly well is fantastic!!!!:T For the rewards I go with Naomi and a smoothie maybe, definitely good for you! Maybe a delicious fruit salad with all fresh fruit to prepare and chop/slice might appeal more? Include pineapple and any other fruits that you wouldn't normally have. Keep up that great work!
Sue
Thanks a lot for the support. I am self employed and travel all over the place interviewing families. Some interviews are very difficult. In the past the 'reward' was a cigarette in the car afterwards, so far now two interviews (Mon and Wed) no smoking. On the second interview, it was 'get home and order a new handbag'with John Lewis Christmas voucher than motivated me!!
It really is a day at a time. I cannot believe that the flu of all things stopped me after so many years and apart from the very odd craving it seems to be working. I do have anxiety that I will not be able to write anymore much of my work is writing long reports aided by the dreaded fags. So today plan to start my first cigarette free report!! gallons of black coffee) Still also feel quite frail after the dreaded flu so building up strength slowly.
The pleasant things are all the things I can think about doing and enjoying without the constant anxiety about the next cigarette. It really is an addiction that takes total priority and destroys the rest of your life, cigarettes first priority everything else second.0 -
hi everyone
well i survived my first champix tablet
just a quick question for those on champix (well 2 actually!)
1.did it actually suppress your appetite as the doctors suggest?
2.when do you know when they are working or did you just set a quit date and stick to it regardless??
i am aiming to have my last cigarette on the 1st february as i am spending the 2nd with a non smoking friend and am at work for the following 3 days which i think may be easier as i will be busy
wish me luck !!smoke free since 01/02/09 :Tthanks to all those who've helped0 -
HI Everyone
Do you mind if I join your group. I've looked through some of the threads and everyone seems so supportive of each other.
I am thinking of giving up smoking as my dad died of COPD just over a year ago at the age of 62 due to smoking. Also my mum has mild COPD. I have found myself lately getting short of breath and having hardly any energy. The doctor says I have mild asthma. I also work through employment agencies and have not had any work since Dec last yr. Apart from 2 days in January. So need all the money I can get at the moment.
I used to smoke up to 20 cigarettes a day but since meeting my boyfriend 4 years ago now smoke about 30/40 a day as he is a chain smoker. And we all know what it's like when you see someone light up so you do as well.
I did give up about 12 years ago for about 6 months with the help of Nicobrevin, which is a natural herbal capsule which helps with the withdrawal symptoms. It really helped me at the time as I didn't smoke that much then but don't know if it could help me now with being a heavy smoker.
I'm going to try and cut down first and get back to smoking 20 a day by having one an hour. Then when I've achieved that I will try the Nicobrevin again. Nicobrevin is not cheap but neither is cigarettes and cigarettes are harmful and smelly.
Anyway good luck and well done to everyone who has given up and keep up the good work.
Best wishes

I'm on DAY 4
Is it meant to get easier now?
Still puffing away on my Inhaler (Or Pipe as DUKE fondly calls it!!) but I'm only having 1 or 2 Cartridges a day. Even took it out shopping with me yesterday and had a smoke on the Bus, just because I could!!
I'm trying to replace Sweets with Chewing Gum and it seems to be working.
I dont want to speak to soon but i'm actually very surprised at how easy its been - my next big test is a night out with the Girls!!2009 Savings & Winnings so far....Pigsback £15.06 +[strike]£40[/strike] M&S Vouchers + £20 New Look + TNS £15 Capital Bonds + Qype Ninja Goodies + £50 Virgin VoucherSealed Pot Challenge #589 - Target £1500 -

That's really good just having 1-2 cartridges MrsChips - I had 6 yesterday. I'm sucking on my pipe in places where I wouldn't normally smoke too  I've done it in the hospital, bus, bed, shops
Thanks everyone for your support, you make me feel like such a good girl on day 50 -

Hi Lou and well done :j
It hasn't supressed my appetite at all but I am known to love my foodI decided to quite on day 9, didn't smoke all day then did in the evening, tried again every day until day 14 when it was pouring with rain. I was going to go in the garden for a ciggie about 6.30pm , realised it was raining and thought "Nope, I can't be bothered" I had to make a conscious deciscion though. So I would say if you pick a day and it doesn't work, don't panic and stop taking them. It will kick in. You will notice them starting to taste different this week the more you take probably. I also found I was smoking less once I was about 4 or 5 days in.

That made me laugh out loud... not normally a problem but I am at work and not meant to be on the internet at 3.30 in the afternoon :rotfl:I've done it in the hospital, bus, bed, shops
Maybe it's better to not use it in places you wouldn't normally. I mean you wouldn't have smoked on the bus or in a shop before so don't get into the habit of doing it because you can. You're already used to not smoking in those places.

Hello All
It looks like we are all doing pretty well!
I'm on day 7 of patches and gum, and had a telephone appointment with the surgery nurse earlier. She sounded shocked when I said I hadn't smoked! I was disappointed I didn't get to see her in person this week as I really want to do the breath test. Last week I had a reading of 38, and she said it should be under 6 this week. My peak flow has already improved from 300 to 400. Aerobics is still a killer though!
To celebrate week 1 I bought myself a bunch of daffodils earlier, I need to try and not spend as much on rewarding myself as I did on the fags themselves!
I may not post on here often, but I wanted to say how much I appreciate hearing about how others are getting through this, and your support too x0 -
Evening all, good to read everyone is doing well.
Had a tough day today at work, my most stressful day since quitting and was on the verge of smoking but battled not to, my mind just kept saying one wont hurt, one wont hurt! But no I did not give in to my relief. Think I will go hit the spin bike to get rid of some stress.
Have a good evening everyone.Smoke-Free since 15/11/08
