Hi Duke,
I'm so sorry to hear your diagnosis.
You have come to a wonderfully supportive group, no matter "how" or "why" you want to stop. We are all doing different methods but all the tips and hints are useful to all of us.
Sorry to hear Sunday night was bad for you but sometimes it does feel like we are losing a friend and grieving. Once the nicotine is out of your system and the cravings subside, you'll realise the nicotine was a bad friend and never helped.
I am only on day 3 of not smoking and still "missing" it but I am determined to stop.
Please keep posting and I'm sure others will be along soon with more advice and support.

Everyones comments are really good and spurring me on, however, like also i'm back to having a fag or two in the morning  , seems the hardest to quit so still doing that at the mo (Only two today tho :j ). I went and bought an inhaler to, seems to work reasonably well however, as a teacher you cant exactly walk around with it in your hand. So not the most practical solution, as I speak I seemed to have gained the shakes, probably down to the lack of nicotine. Anyway good luck all and I'm find it really useful just to post everyday. Well - heres another way of getting the nicotine in other than patches etc - bit too close to the real thing though?? (please let me know and I will edit out if so):j0 -
Thanks for the link, i've tried something similar to this, i've tried everything i'm trying to do it cold turkey with the odd help of patches and allen carrs book.............However i think i'm going to ditch the patches as from tomorrow as they are still giving nicotine supply its more habbit i really genuinely forgot about it today just forgot that i'd quit arghhhhh.Winging life....0

Sorry I havent posted for a few days but dont worry I havent given in, day 20 today! I started my new job yesterday and have told them all there so thats good as they will stop me giving in too! Although to be honest, I havent even wanted one at all lately, maybe cos I am not fully better, but am hoping that this mindset continues!
To everyone else, keep positive, think of all the benefits of stopping and all the pitfalls of faling prey to the evil weed, I walked past someone today who had just had a fag and they smelt really bad...... If we all support each other, we can do it!!0 -
Hello
I would like to join this thread too if possible
I gave up on Sunday so i am currently on day three - i was never a hevy smoker a 3/4 a day but i have decided that its a nasty habbit that has to go , plus i cant afford it.
I am putting all the money i would have spent on fags in my sealed pot - I have £2.98 in there now
Good luck everyone:j0 -
hello!!
OMG - i dont peek on this thread for a few days and there are millions of posts that i havent seen!! well done the gazillions of people contributing to the thread and staying off the cigs!! :j
im on day 18 and still feeling fine, though i had a stressful meeting in work earlier and craved a cig afterwards, just to chill a bit!! but it passed and i went home and ranted to my poor OH instead!!
really enjoying having money in my purse stay in my purse and my 'good thing about not smoking for today' is the fact that i no longer feel paraniod that i have stinky breath if im in a situatuin where im close up with a collegaue or friend!! ive been training a girl to take over my job when i leave on friday and we have been sitting right next to eachother, so at least i dont have to worry thats shes silently retching with the smell of smoke from me!!
ive saved £37 so far, according to silkquitmeter - well chuffed!! i still have a bit of a cough, im hoping its gone by the time i start my new job on 3rd feb, but it has definitely been getting better over the last week or so.
keep up the good work (and messages!!) everyone!! :T

Hi again JenC another day to your credit along with one very clean car! I must admit, that like you, I also thought COPD was more associated with older folk - though it's come to our notice more over recent years so that could be a reason. Or maybe the now older folk did have it when they were younger, but if they hardly ever went to their GPs it possibly went undetected. In which case you may well have the advantage over a lot of folk who aren't diagnosed until they're older. Whatever the reason, I'm delighted you're going to stamp the harm that it causes from your life and LIVE healthily from here on!!!! Keep strong!:j
Oh you do flatter me mudgekin, however, if I'm helpful in any way then I am SO very happy. Most of my wanting to help quitters is because of all the fear and worry that I went through for so long before quitting and I hate to think of anyone suffering in a similar way so I'll help them quit where possible. When someone returns saying "I've been free from it now for x amount of time the pleasure I feel is immense! You for starters are doing amazing and look at the difference already in you - AND - with you saving all that money!!! I hope you're feeling so very proud! Everyone else who's quitting too as pride gives you a real buzz and especially when it's associated with being smoke-free!!!!:D
HHH Well done on getting down to half the amount!! You're really sounding so very positive that it wouldn't surprise me if you started off your own bat at all!! You have a very low CO2 reading indeed for a smoker, well done on that alone. Write down all the tips that you see put on here it'll all help when you head for that great new way of life - or old way of life perhaps!
Well done on day 3 proper Naomi!!!! You've every right to feel smug as you're a non-smoker now!!:T To help with the horrible taste and nicotine coated teeth and gums clean your teeth more often for now, you could also buy one of the tooth brushes that has the rubber-backed heads to rub down your tongue, getting that horrible stuff off. Give it a try as it'll make you feel far fresher.
Of course you can join o99!! Welcome aboard! Sorry to hear you have Bronchitis, such a horrible complaint, I had it once - and stupidly went back smoking afterwards!!! You keep on with your 5 days (5 + by the time you're well) and prove yourself as having a darn sight more sense then me - please!!!
Hi and welcome ljs2000! Congratulations on your very first day!! Take it a day at a time, though you should do well on Champix. Try sucking Ice Pops which will help you not to eat too much sweet stuff and put weight on, clementines too are really effective and take time to prepare which is good, though your greatest ally, which isn't sweet at all either I'm afraid, is water. Try a glassful every time you feel hungry, you'll be surprised at the difference it'll make. If you can keep off of sweet things it'll help you in the long run with not having to get weight off again. IF you really do need sweet things though, try limiting yourself with chewy sweets - just try and such them instead! Hard gums could help too. All the best with day 2. Go for a brisk walk that'll do you good and help keep you away from sweet things.
Try and ignore those 3 remaining cigs MrsChips, pretend they don't exist, but you'll still secretly know they are there as a back up to, hopefully, keep you from touching them. Of course if you carry on just looking at the Nicorette Inhalators that too will keep you from nicotine - carry on like that with both and you'll be nicotine free in a few days!!!
Very well done jinty!! :THopefully you'll have reached 3 days by the time you read this! Try not to breathe in a few deep breaths of hubby's smoke as it may just tempt you back and one way or tother you're still getting it in your system - beware!
Excellent news about you having got to 7 Weeks smoke-free joop!!!! :TYou've achieved so very much and I know just how proud you are at what you've done for your health and money, fantastic news that will spur others on too! You coped with your driving 'thought' so well apart from the lingo!:silenced: It'll happen now and again to keep you on your toes, but you'll carry on winning ....just be sure to carry a swear box!!! :rotfl:
Hi DUKE and welcome to quitting! I was so sorry to read about your news, though you sound as though you immediately put your mind into gear with such sensible thinking, you're right too as no one else can help you re the smoking! I've a feeling YOU will help YOU all you possibly can though and we're all here to support and help you wherever possible. I expect that sobbing did you a lot of good and got things out of your system a bit. I expect it was for more than just the tobacco though, after all you've had a lot to cope with in a short time, but with a great attitude you'll get there! As Naomi says and you have in the PM, we do all view smoking as a friend and we grieve when it has to go, but a bad friend is no friend at all!!! :mad:There's absolutely nothing wrong with sucking a dummy either ....whatever works for YOU do it and blow anyone else!
Hi squidykins, try and alter your routine in the morning so that you can get over the 1 or 2 you miss so then. Are they drink related perhaps and if so then change tea for coffee or herbal tea. Try your shower first/last whichever turns the routine around more. Go straight out for a quick walk or do a small exercise routine - anything - that'll help rid you of them. Try ditching the Inhalators ASAP too as you'll never be nicotine free and on the way to losing the cravings while you're still putting nicotine in your body. Try glassfuls of water for the shakes Dr Bach's Rescue Remedy too, it really does help!
KatieShopstoomuch, there's no need at all to go back to day one, you've had a tiny blip and that's all it was so forget about it and move on as you were and try to keep free of nicotine getting into your body all over again as it won't really help. I don't think you need a kick up the rear, I reckon you've done that yourself, be thankful you detested it and it made you feel ill. Keep remembering that and go on with your journey to quit for LIFE - yours!!! Keep away from the friend maybe!
Congratulations on 20 days free of smoking BlueIsTheColour!!!:T A really great achievement!!!:j A good idea to tell them about it at your new job, just in case. No need to apologise for not posting, it's not always easy, especially you with your new job too. Good luck with it, quitting too!
Of course you can join hippy-chicy!! Welcome aboard and very well done on being free for 3 days already! :jPutting the money saved into a sealed pot is a great idea and will help no end!
Hi daleigha another with such a great achievement on day 18! :TVery well done indeed!!! A great though about the paranoia and I can quite see what you mean at not having to worry about the lass you're training. Try a little more aerobic type exercise to help shift any other muck on your chest, it always worked for me. £37 is an amazing saving!!!
I'm feeling much better now thanks queen vi. I do hope you feel far happier about things now and are battling on from where you were. Keep strong and keep going!
Keep up the wonderful work everyone, keep viewing that goal ahead and every new day is a day closer to it that you are!! You WILL do it, you KNOW you can!!!
