  • Thanks for such a warm welcome I know I am among friends.

I have only had one craving that was at the end of a 3 hour interview (now I can have a cigarette) that was my usual 'reward' for sitting through the interview. It passed but I must think of an alternative 'reward' - any ideas - dont say food as I dont want to be be even fatter??
  • Hi all you fab quitters!:A

Day 18 for me!:j Not been that easy for me, I have been signed off work with depression, cigarettes have always been a crutch/comfort for me when I am down! But I have no intentions of going back to them nasty cigs!:D

How about having a nice smoothie? tasty and good for you! or a scratchcard or something. they would be a nice treat for me :D

    Hi All,

I went to the cinema last night and normally when I come out of a couple of hours confinement I'm desperate. When I was in the car I was obsessing about having a cig. I was even picturing it in my mind :o I was telling myself it would taste horrible and luckily I had half a bottle of water with me so I was guzzling that down and the craving went :j I did have a bad night sleep though but I'm not sure if it was just me as I'm not the best sleeper, the tablets or the lack of nicotine. I don't feel completely knackered today though like I would normally after a bad night. Fingers crossed tonight will be ok.

I've downloaded the silquit meter and I'm quit enjoying watching it go up, the time not smoked, the amount not smoked and the amount I haven't spent! :T I'm updating my sig daily so I can keep my eye on it. Unfortunately I can't save the money however, on payday (15th) I put £50 in my purse to last the month and I still have £35 left :j Although that's now got to pay for the silly parking ticket I got this morning  But on the brightside, if I was smoking I wouldn't even have the parking ticket money and would go more overdrawn to pay that too :o

I've also noticed that at work, I am getting more done and the time is going quicker as I'm not clock watching for every hour to nip outside in the cold. Out of 9 person department, only one is left smoking now so I'm hoping she'll stop soon too

I hope everyone else is having a good day.

Thanks everyone - really bad day 3 for me. My poor old Mom copped it today when she came to visit me (she's 70) & says that she found it easy to stop & I should too. She's got COPD. I feel AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Sorry I can't be more positive. I've got my no smoking group tonight at 6, so at least I can tell them that I haven't had one.

    Keep it up you lot!

Well, it was my first official day yesterday and I think it started OK (my B/F was very surprised, I think he thought i'd last an hour!!)....

The Nicorette Inhalators were a great help - I had 2 throughout the day and I found even just holding them in my hand helped my cravings.

But by about 6pm I starting feeling a bit ill and very short tempered and depressed, I held out until about 9pm and then I gave in and had 1 of my 3 Ciggies (Sorry) and a big bowl of Custard instead of Ciggie Numer 2!!

But compared to my usual 15-20 a day habit, i was happy with my 1st days acheivements. :T

Today i've done very well, only had 2/3 puffs on the Inhalator and that wasnt until about 4pm, I feel much more determined today but I just need to get past that 9pm stage.... Wish me Luck!

Hi everyone! What an inspiring thread, you're all doing so well you should be proud of yourselves :T

I've been thinking about quitting for a while now and have just been putting it off frankly. I decided that when my OH went back abroad to work, I'd give it a few weeks then go for it - I fully admit I wanted my crutch to get over the usual feeling of total loneliness when he leaves! Anyhow, I've been on a couple of sites and figured I'd let quitnet decide my date for me, so I'm counting down the days! Quitnet date is basically midnight of Friday 6th February, as I figured a weekend would be better where I can control what I do to help myself out over the first couple of days. I'm really keen to do it, after failing before. Last time around I used patches and they just made me ill, and also I know that I'd still be getting my nicotine fix that way. So I'm going to go cold turkey this time and I'm hoping when my date arrives that I can count on you good people here to keep me on the straight and narrow!!

Any hints and tips would be great, although I've already gathered that WATER is the key! Someone also suggested I wash jackets etc so that there isn't the lingering smell of smoke - I don't smoke in the house, so no problem there. I won't deny that I'm kind of scared, lol, I've had mixed feelings about tellling family and friends as I feel like I don't want the added pressure - what if I fail?? But then I'm thinking, if they know, they can support me! Getting myself wound up and I've still got 2 weeks to go!

Going for an interview so soon after quitting adarynefoedd was so brave but to cope with it so amazingly well is fantastic!!!!:T For the rewards I go with Naomi and a smoothie maybe, definitely good for you! Maybe a delicious fruit salad with all fresh fruit to prepare and chop/slice might appeal more? Include pineapple and any other fruits that you wouldn't normally have. Keep up that great work!

Hi Liberty and congratulations on day 18!!!! :T So sorry to hear of the depression, but well done for not crumbling and giving into those evil little swine!!! I do hope you're soon feeling much better. Try to exercise asap and get the old endorphins revved up, you'll feel far better mentally then!:)

Very well done Naomi, you coped with the craving so well with having the water, another good one for all to remember, keep a bottle topped up and in the car everyone! Such bad luck with the parking ticket, though you so quickly look on it in such a great way, you're doing wonderfully!:j

Under the circumstances DUKE, I reckon you coped with that in exactly the same way as the majority of us would, especially so soon into quitting. Pat yourself on the back ...at least you didn't throttle her!!! Bless her, she possibly means you should find it easy to stop because of you being her Daughter (the genes) and with her having COPD she'll do anything to help you not be the same. She meant well and you'll become more positive with time. Keep strong and show her you WILL conquer it!:T

That's not bad at all MrsChips, you only had the 1 which is good, you held back from any more too which is excellent!!! :TSo be very pleased, proud of yourself too. If simply holding them in your hand helps against the cravings then that would be really great advantage. If custard 'hits the spot' and could help you then reward yourself with a bowl at one of the more difficult times of the day, not too big a bowl though!;) Don't forget the glasses of water, it really does help cease the cravings!

Hi Aeshna and welcome to the thread. I really do hope you can quit on your 'hoped for' date. You're right about water it really is good, washing the clothing too ...wash all that dirty smelly smoke out of your life and let the new (old too) you come out shining and smelling beautifully! You'll soon notice how lovely you smell and how bad  smokers do!!! We'll certainly help you as much as we possibly can and you can shout, scream, rant or rave as much as you like on here IF you need to. Whatever helps - do it, even if it sounds crazy if it works it isn't!! You've got the PM now so read through it and take note of all that strikes you as helpful and put the list of reasons somewhere visible to keep you reminded. Save up the money you would have spent on them, you'll feel amazing as you watch it grow! :jRe the family and friends: For now why not tell them that you're thinking hard about it, but don't actually commit yourself. One of our really successful girls was "Feedumall" and she didn't tell anyone until she'd quit for a month, that was around May last year and she's done brilliantly and still comes here now and again to update us, just as you could soon be! Still time for you to think about it all so unwind and relax as you go forward to great health, wealth too!!!:D

All the very best for yet another wonderful day freed from the nicotine monster everyone. Keep that resolve strong and head for the far better life with much better health and the money to pay the bills or to enjoy yourselves with!

  • Am  this morning - no money gone into bank! Now tryin to frantically work out if we have enough food in, what about bills for next week, dog has vets on monday - doing the usual panic thing, wanting a hot cuppa and a ciggy, not gonna have a ciggy but will have the cuppa. And Breathe................................

and repeat I can't do anything so smoking won't cure it.

    Breathe again

    and relax.

    Thank you xx

ps I love this place :j

MoonRose, you are so so right, smoking ISN'T going to help. in fact, just think you will have more free cash than if you were smoking. I hope your pay gets sorted fast ((hugs))

Day 18 and day 7 cold turkey. I felt a dreaded craving for the first time since I tossed the patches a week ago as I was walking to work. Only lasted a few mins and I just growled at myself that if it was a contest between me and the nicotine monster, then I was going to win every time.

well done to everyone for another day into this eventful journey :j
