This has happened to quite a few people I know even myself in the past! The dreaded 3 week period! We can stop for 3 weeks but then somehow we start again, it's the period where nicotine has completely passed and the mind plays tricks and craves for us to get a fix! As we are weak we give in! Stay strong and postive! Remind yourself that you just haven't quit but you are a "non smoker" and a happy one at that to. Good luck.

Hello all, haven't been able to get on the site for a few days, but just wanted to say well done to everyone who are staying strong. And those who have had a hiccup as well of course! You'll get back on track if you remind yourselves of why your giving up and read the wonderful supportive posts on this site.

I'm not getting the urge much now and if I do I don't beat myself up about it anymore, I just have to think that after 35 years of holding a cig between my fingers, I'm bound to miss it a bit! So glad it's gone now though - a strange relief.

    Love to all...

Well done mudgekin! You had that horrible 3 week 'pulling you back' phase ...and passed it with just a bit of narkiness, I reckon you should be totally proud of yourself - I'll bet the lads are for sure!!!;) Keep up that strength and push on ahead.

So that's 2 good weeks behind you skr80, very well done, patches or not, you still need willpower too. I like the idea of cutting the 14mg patches in half and using each half for a day, very MSE indeed!:D Try not to look ahead too far ahead to the weaning off completely as the withdrawals shouldn't be too bad, not with you on a low dosage anyway, apart from which it'll be gone after 3 days! From then on get plenty of exercise, water and the oranges etc Keep looking further into that wonderful, healthy future - with money in your pocket!:j

Hi Naomi. Good to hear you're doing so well with the quitting, though very sorry to hear about your friend's loss and her's and her husband's dilemmas. Fingers crossed that he gets a job before the baby comes along. Try not to get yourself too stressed about it all, especially now you're doing so very well with quitting and getting that very important part of your life sorted out. Be a friend to them and strong for yourself! :D You ramble as much as you want, if it helps then why ever not! Keep strong Naomi, your spiritual family at your spiritual home care very much for you and your new life!

Welcome back Jayess and many congratulations on not weakening after the time spent with your OH on holiday!!! :TI'm delighted for you and would naturally guess that you are too! A good idea with the patches, keep that strength up!

What a shame MrsChips! However, it seems as though you got over it all by not using your inhalator! Good luck with the Nicorette website, though it seems to me as though that letter should have been to say cheerio to the cigs as they left home! :jI really do hope your OH does give up as it might give you more support to stay off of them altogether along with you supporting him and in turn helping yourself so much more - if that makes sense!

Some very positive thinking going on there nikz! Well done too as you're quite right about that 3 week tester, so many seem to be put through it at exactly the same time. Very well done to you for keeping on the straight and narrow!:T

Congratulations on that darling addition to the family queen vi!!!:A If anything can make you want to stay healthy it's staring into the eyes of a beautiful newborn family member! A healthy life for baby Joshua, you too!!!:D

All the best to everyone for great strength and positive thinking just like Nikz!

    Hello :hello:

    wannabe ex smoker

I got made redundant last September and have not found another job yet, which will please some on a certain other board as I [strike]am [/strike] was an estate agent, all I've done for 20 years and now no one wants me:cry:

Anyway savings nearly all gone and going through my costs I discovered that I spend £200 a month on fags:eek:
This has to stop and I need the money for DS college trip..as in my signature.

I have read Allen Carr's book twice, now donated it to my library,
GP runs a quit clinic staffed by someone who when asked if she had ever smoked looked at me as though I had asked for her tooth brush to clean the floor with.

    So I'm here.

I cant chew gum due to teeth problem, tried hypnosis for something else, it didn't work...and I don't like patches, but I do like my inhalator which I use for long flights.

Question is when should one stop? does it matter? a snap decision?, or a gradual reduction in the number of fags? does TTOM make any difference?

I'm 46 and started at 15 :o and smoke 30 a day, don't you just wish you could go back to being young and give yourself a clip round the ear for being stupid!

Any advice or guidance gratefully accepted

I have done 4 weeks now!!

Combination of willpower, the support from this website, and also Why Quit

Nearly a month in and I can go for long periods without even thinking about smoking - I don't really crave after meals either.
I sleep better, people have said my skin is looking great, and I don't get out of breath when walking quickly for a few minutes.
It can be done people - pls join me in a new chapter of our lives, where we are not slaves to cigarettes. The freedom is great - I don't have to change what I am doing just to smoke

Hi everyone, well done for keeping up the good work!

After really getting irriated with myself this week, I've decided to bring my quit date forward a week (what's the point in waiting, just putting it off!). So as of midnight on Friday, I'll be a non smoker.

oooo scary!! Expect to hear a lot from me on Saturday!!

Welcome to MSE and to the giving up smoking thread TheBigB! It's always good to welcome folk on who want to say cheerio to that rotten habit. Good luck with trimming the numbers down, it'll help. With you both giving up you'll be able to understand what each other are going through as well as support each other all the way. I wish you both all the very best in achieving your goal.

Hi annie123 and welcome to the thread. Oh how I do agree with your last paragraph! If only!!! :o I had a real giggle at your thoughts on what the member of the quit clinic looked like with you asking if she'd ever smoked .....the very idea!! I think from that I can imagine her face!! :p

As to your question about when should one stop? Does it matter? A snap decision?, or a gradual reduction in the number of fags? That has to be down to you and your thoughts. Some say cutting down does no good, but for me it worked wonders as you'll see in the PM I've sent. Is there a way that sounds best to you? Would you be able to cut it right down to start with and then go in for the 'kill' so to speak? I don't think the TTOM makes a great deal of difference. Whenever it feels right, go for it and don't look back!! The use of an inhalator will help - so long as you don't use it too much for too long as you're still putting that drug into you which also helps keep you addicted!

Sorry to here about your being made redundant, though that along with the knowledge of wasting £200 a month on setting fire to paper just might help spur you on to quit and stay quit, your DS will be a help too! If you're not keen to go back to the quit clinic, see if you have another local to you, many Tesco's have such people who are great in helping. You can ring the NHS help centre too.

One thing I can say is that after 31 years of smoking 30 a day, the greatest gift you'll ever give yourself will be that of kicking the habit, a truly wonderful gift, the gift of LIFE!!! Take note of all the hints in the PM Annie, use them from now on and you'll benefit from each!

All the very best and please let us know when you go ahead with it. You can come on here and tell us your exact thoughts too, good or bad, we'll always listen and support you. Be strong once you start and change around routines of times that are hardest. One last thing, put aside all that your save as watching it grow can be marvellous incentive to keep it up! Have a look at Graeme's post below yours - enough to get any smoker to join in.

    Sue

Well done Graeme, be very, very proud!!! You really do seem to be sailing through and remain so positive at all times. If anyone has true determination to succeed for life it's YOU! Keep at it Graeme, you know you can for sure!!

Good for you Aeshna!! I was thrilled to read that and after all, where is the point in putting off that evil hour!! Please take note of all the tips and change around routines of times that are hardest for you. Cleaning your teeth more can be beneficial too - and drink plenty of water as the fuller you feel the less you'll crave!

All the very best to everyone, another day closer to the goal for most of you - and what a goal it is!!!
