Hi everyone.
Hope you all had a good Christmas.
Welcome to Frugal.
Ever tried to dry out tobacco in the microwave? (Yes folks this addict did just that).
I used to buy a pack of tobacco. Have a couple, then feel so disgusted with myself, I would run the tap all over it and throw it away. However many hours later, I would be at that bin getting it out and trying to dry it enough to smoke it. It smelt foul.
I used to search for dog ends and roll them up to smoke. How foul is that?
Thank goodness I don't have to do any of that these days. I am free.
My ds told me this weekend, he and his fiancee will be moving out as they need their own space. I am terrified of the implications financially as they have been contributing to the rent and council tax. Of course I will miss them, but they need to strike out on their own.
It will be a new phase in my life and I do feel vulnerable, but I know smoking will not help one jot.
So I will be skint but not smoking, so that is the main thing!
Just get through those first few days however you can, it really does ease off after that and once you become aware of how pleasant it is to not smell (smelling your hands should tell you just how vile this chemical is), you will feel inspired to keep on.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Hi Larmy
I had a lovely Christmas thanks I hope you did too x I haven't ever rolled my own, Regal are my downfallbut I have broken cigarettes up time and time again and put them out in the bin...and then went hoking through it later to get them back, seriously disgusting. It's reassuring to know that other people have been through the same thing and have got through it. I'm sorry to hear about your money worries
I have the pleasure of paying 2 full months wages to the Inland Rev in January and February and I really can't afford to be smoking on top of that but worry makes me chain smoke, seriously need to deal with this once and for all. Good for you for seeing that smoking won't change things, I so want to get to that stage as well xx

Hi All,
So sorry I have not been here for a couple of days, had a few laptop issues, but am now getting it sorted :j
Just to update all that although I started my quit using Champix and had absolutely no side effects, I am happy to report that I have not taken a tablet for 10 days now, so have effectively stopped the Champix half way through and remain a non smoker and have had absolutely no cravings :j:j I will however continue to put champix in my title bar as that is what gave me the kick start.
Hi Frugal, welcome to the non smoking world, Hope both ML and yourself can help eachother through the cravings
Hope everyone had a great xmas, and look forward to an even better 2011
Ross

ml, I promise you that the first highlighted part above has been true for us all in the past, or we thought it was ........but it isn't true! It's smoking fags that makes youu chain-smoke because the fags are the things that make you stressed because of all the chemicals in them. You're ok when you wake up, apart from "ah, I'll have a fag", then you light up the first one and the stress begins so you have another and so on......feeding what you believe to be stress due to a condition - but it's the blessed fags NOT the event!
Please believe me as it really is the truth! Once you're free from fags you won't get half as stressed or worried as you do now - truthfully!
Remember also, the 2nd highlighted part, smoking WON'T change things at all!!! It's the nicotine that lures you into thinking and even believing such things, but next time you're tempted - STOP! Think it out before you even think about going back - it's never, ever worth it because it WON'T change a thing only exasipate things!
Hi larmy, so sorry to hear about your lad and his fiance! moving, as you say though, they do have to strike out on their own, but financially it will make such a difference to you. DH & I missed our two so much when DD left first for uni, then marriage; then our lad went to be with his fiance! just like yours and that was awful for me! I soon got over it, but not east. Thank Heavens you've given up fags - and - have the money by for the tax!!!
Hi Ross, good to see things are ok for you now. Re the Champix, you're not the first to say they've quit taking them before the time's up...and if it works without them...is HAS to be good! You're doing fantastically Ross....looking towards 2011 for sure!!! :j
See you later everyone, meanwhile...stay strong, exercise, drink water and eat fruit and veg!

plan strategies for coping with those cravings and difficult times
dont think of giving something up but gaining so much more
cigarettes are truly not your friend and they wont make things better ( i started again after 9 months) so am back to the drawing board so to speak but it does get easier please stick with it and if having a hard time please post on here rather than reach into your purse for a packet

Hi everyone
I haven't been on this thread for ages but just wanted to confirm that I'm still a non smoker. Had a couple of temptations this month - the Xmas party where most people were smoking and meeting up with an old friend who I last saw just before I quit smoking 9 months ago. We always smoked together and in the past (apart from when I was pregnant) meeting up with her was often the beginning of the end of a quit attempt.
I hardly ever think about smoking now and when I do I find the thought of it quite disgusting.
A year ago I thought I'd never be able to quit for good. I used to worry that I would get ill and leave my children behind before they grew up. Well none of us knows what's round the corner but at least I don't have to feel guilty any more.
Good luck to all you quitters, hang in there - there is light at the end of the tunnel!

hello all
hope everyone has had a lovely christmas. i got spoilt rotten, and stuffed with christmas dinner two days in a row! (his parents and mine)
it may disappoint some of you to hear i did light a cigarette, i kept telling myself i could eventually have a smoke when i'm drinking, maybe after being off them a year or two. i am happy to say though, it was vile! and i took 2 draws before stubbing it out. it didn't even feel natural to hold it. i had a memory of what smoking was like, how it felt and tasted. i suppose i was testing myself, as i have fallen over on quitting twice before. i believe crocheting has really helped with breaking the physical habit, and having them out of my system made me realise how disgusting they are! it was like a little test for me i suppose, i really was torturing myself thinking that i might want a cigarette when x is there or when y happens, and now i know i don't need to, cause i don't even like them!0
