hi everyone...I hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas :)

Well, as I'm sure you guessed due to my lack of appearance I fell of the wagon, well not so much fell off it as jumped off it. I've been smoking non stop since a few days after I last posted and even to myself my excuses are wearing thin.

Thankfully..and this is a blessing in disguise I'm down to my last few cigs, due to the terrible weather (we live out in the countryside) there's no way I can drive in that ice, nor am I going to over a packet of cigs, I was scratching around here thinking how I would get them when I kind of realised that if I didn't smoke I wouldn't have to deal with this sort of stress...so here we go and this time I'm sticking with it.

Apologies for dipping in and out of the thread, I'm ashamed that I've let myself quit and restart so many times but there really is a lightbulb moment going on right now where I know I don't have to deal with this constant craving and scratching around for cigs...I'm only feeling this way because I smoke and if I didn't smoke well then I wouldn't have to worry about shops being closed or not being able to drive. It's common sense and I just need to quit harping on about planning to quit and get it done!

Hi ml2008. a lot of us have done the same. Wonderful that your light bulb switched back on. Nicotine will never change. It will always be a liar.

It is up to us to stop lying to ourselves.

All the best to you. :)

thanks so much Larmy :) I'm down to 1 cig and it will soon be gone, I have been mostly worrying about weight gain and that's been putting me off but I can't keep using that as an excuse, I've subscribed to weightwatchers so I'm just going to have to tackle things head on and get it over and done with :)

    Hi ML,

I can understand how you feel, i too on many previous occasions have quit then restarted using the excuses, but I assume you have already smoked your remaining one ciggy?? if so welcome back to being a non smoker.

this quit for me is as a result of my lightbulb moment, im already overweight (by about 5 stone) and suddenly thought, if i put some more on then so be it, i am joining a well known diet programme with the initials WW in January and have set myself the goal of next christmas to be down to my ideal weight :j

ML, you have my full support and I am always checking in as and when I can which as you have probably seen is quite a lot of time lol.

I wish you all the best of luck and a very prosperous and smoke free 2011

    :hello:

    Please can I join you?

I've been planning on quitting for a while... (gave up a few years ago when trying for DDs but started again a year ago)... and recently I am smoking a day, then not smoking the next day... Its working for me but I really do need to STOP.

I've got 2 lovely DDs to think of, I hate the smell in the house and I want to book a holiday... The extra £2k a year will be most useful!!!

Biggest reasons for quitting are, our health and my energy levels.

So... today was a non-smoking day... Maybe tomorrow will be too...

Welcome back, ml.!!! It's really lovely to see you back and trying again. Firstly though, you've absolutely no reason to apologise to us, most of us have had several dummy runs so we're no better than you, it's just that on here I suppose it feels much more public - but you let no one down if you fall off the wagon...only yourself temporarily.

You're serious about quitting though or you wuldn't keep coming back. OK, you're house-bound and as you say, you'd just as well stick to it now and go through it all while the chance presents itself - it could even turn out to be one HUGE present - a real gift. Grasp that chance and praise yourself for every moment...every hour...every half day etc because you will deserve it!! Be proud of yourself and battle on - it may even be much easier than you'd thought - so long as you give yourself time to get into it. Any cravings you get won't kill you..they won't cause you any pain...just an edginess that, if you put your mind onto other things, will soon go. Then the further you get into quitting the less you have them and the quicker you go.

You've nothing to lose - but so very much to gain!

Keep writing here this time, ml, let us know how you feel...and let us help you! Have a look at Ross' words, he too is a great souce of strength and help, larmy too - use us all to get the help you need - or might need! You may just sail through it!! ;) You can even tackle the weight too so long as you don't snack to compensate. Try fruit and veg cut and sliced; have slices of apple at the ready to nibble on as soon as a craving comes...do the same with a glass of water and take sips when you need them for 'those' times. Find something to put yourself into, something you enjoy doing or a new challenge. Look on-line for various things such as handicradts...new languages...word puzzles...even exercises!! :j

    All best wishes, Sue x

A very warm welcome, Frugal.

It sounds to me as though you know exectly what's needed here - AND the knowledge that you CAN do it if you really put your mind to it.

You and ml2008 are both starting together and it's always good when you've someone else who is experiencing what you are...it motivates you to battle on at times when you might just have thought "oh blow it". No more though....those little ones are depending on you...use them to give you the strength to help you - kiddies are a great form of strength and motivation and later on in years they'll be so proud of their dear Mum for keep her health and not ruining it!

If you hate the smell in the house, then every time you have a craving, make yourself go outside, breathe deeply but slowly and calm yourself before you go back in - NO MATTER WHAT THE WEATHER!!

Read through the post above to ml and see if that helps. Also you have this whole thread to pour over, that should help and inspire you...and once you've quit again this time - PLEASE, for your sake and the sakes of your little darlings - DON'T ever be tempted to have "just one puff/cigarette" it never works!

The very best of wishes, Sue
