Oh Daz! What a bally twit!!!! Well, at almost 12 years free I'm b
d if there will be any bloomin jokes going on here! What an expensive JOKE!!!!! That would just about break my heart and it ain't gonna happen. Why, oh why do folk dice with such things! :(

That a girl DD!! Just the way to deal with it, though I'll bet it's just a one off day. If ever I had one I used to look ahead to the next being better and it was! Your head's just testing you DD, glad you're keeping it straight!! ;) Tuck into fruit next time (if there's one) or keep sipping on a glass of water and breathe deeply but slowly. You're getting there and it's that determination that's got you where you are and that will see you to your goal!!! :D

Well done Ross on staying adamant in your quit, you're doing wonderfully! :T

Well, there you are folk, DD chose to go and have a shower to get her through 'one of those moments'. There's always something you can do to distract yourselves - just don't ever cave in!

I am pleased to report that she has given up again, but she was very alarmed at the speed she was drawn back in.

If I may just share my experience from the last time I gave up. Just to warn others.
I had given up for about 5 months and something good happened which I rewarded myself with one cigar. Big mistake, I was full into the fags within one month and stayed there for five years.

I now know that I was looking for excuses or a reason to get back into it.

Not this time though, the want is not there :D.

Please, fellow quitters, do not smoke anything, cigar, pipe, joint, they will all lead you back on the path of death :(

I was similar Daz in that I stopped for three years and then went on a blind date. My "date" was a smoker and I practically begged him for a ciggie. Yuck.

Within days, I was back smoking.

I have had a few quits of 10 months and started again, so I know I can never be complacent and think I have cracked it for good.

Remain quietly vigilant I say. Never say never, just keep on the path towards life, not death.

Well, I'm nearing the end of day 3 of going completely cold turkey (after 2 weeks of patches) and I am afraid to say this in case I jinx myself but it does seem to be getting easier :j. I still really want a cig but not as much as I did at the weekend or even yesterday. I'm also sleeping very well now and feel altogether more relaxed.

I've a feeling that this may be a dangerous period because I am starting to feel like I have got this beat now. I know that just 1 more cig would start me off again and so must not think that I can now handle it because I can't.

I remember thinking last time I quit that I could now smoke or not whenever I choose because I had gone so long without smoking one. No such arrogance this time. :)

I hope everyone else is staying off the evil weed without too many problems.
  • Thanks to everyone for all the support and encouragement :)

Onto day 20 smoke free now - I think if I can get through the stresses I've had over the past week without smoking, I can do anything! I am feeling really anxious but need to keep reminding myself that I'm feeling that way because of the job situation, not the lack of fags. I'm sure my non smoking colleagues have the same feelings as me.

    Must not smoke!!

That's an excellent post to have put on Daz, thank you so very much. If it helps keep one person from straying than it's worthy of all the typing. :D

That is absolutely brilliant news Payless!!! :T:T:T The feeling of wanting on is getting less and less because the nicotine has just about left your body!! Handle it as you have been these last few days and you're starting to really get the hang of NOT letting thoughts of it muck your life up, very well done! :D

Don't start getting vulnerable as you haven't got it beat and I'm so glad that in your heart you know that. Keep on hearing that last sentence over and over and keeping yourself reminded of just how quick it could all become undone and you DON'T want that and we won't let you! :D

You're doing so very, very well Payless - be proud and tell yourself how marvellous you are, because you are and deserve to feel good about it all. You've come quite a fair way - keep it up, stay strong and be SO proud! :A

You TOO copperjar!!!! That is blissful to hear! :T:T:T You are so very positive in your post and looking at things much better now. In short you and Payless really are setting out to help yourselves and it's wonderful! :D Of course you're still feeling very anxious, copperjar, but as you said, it wouldn't be any different for non smokers, though it WOULD be worse for smokers! Smoking induces stress, keep that in mind copperjar and keep looking ahead! We'll all be thinking of you on Thursday, but from then on it's the future and who knows what it could bring.........! :)

Yet another day behind you folks. With another good (but cold) one to look forward to - another step closer to your goals - so keep walking in the right direction breathing that fresh air into your lungs. :D

I just want to say, after 12 years of smoking, I attended Allen Carr's Easyway two weeks ago and I have not smoked since. I cannot believe how amazing the last two weeks have been. I would urge ANYONE to try the course - even if they are not 100% sure, just try it- you have nothing to lose! Best thing I've ever done!!! If anyone wants to know anything about it, feel free to PM me.

    Morning everyone :)

Hope you're having a great smoke free day! The last couple of days I haven't been around the computer much but I can say that I don't think patches are working for me. I feel as though I'm craving almost constantly on them add that to sleeplessness and a red itchy spot where the patch is and I'm just about ready to slap someone lol. I'm not putting on a new patch today, I'm craving badly anyway so I'm going to give it a go cold turkey and see what happens. A friend that quit successfully 2 years ago told me that he felt the patches actually made him crave more as well and put it down to being given a controlled amount of nicotine through them that wasn't enough.

So, here goes nothing lol. What have I got to lose? If it gets really unbearable then I'm just going to have to sit it out because it will pass. I'm not knocking anyone that has used patches to quit, I think that whatever works for us to kick this has to be worth a try but for me personally I just feel as though I'm dragging it out.

Day 1 cold turkey for me...we'll see how it goes :) I'm a bit worried about overeating but I'm already following weightwatchers at the moment so I think if I stick rigidly to that which I should be doing anyway then it won't be too bad.

Hi ml2008 and it's so good to know you're still sticking to quitting. Well done indeed. :T
Many people have problems with patches, either they don't stick properly, or like you, they give them a rash or irritate. Given that you're suffering by using them, I honestly think you're wise to quit by using the cold turkey method.

Stick with the posts of mustkeephoping, Payless and copperjar, you're all around the same amount of time or similar and you too can get through this and be looking forward to good health with far less worries about smoking-induced illnesses!! The chance start to lower almost immediately.

Well done, ml2008, I am so very, very proud of you for sticking it out and keeping determined! :D Don't forget, to stop yourself going OTT with too much food/sweet stuff - eat plenty of fruit, keep taking regular sips of water and exercise as much as possible as ALL help keep control of cravings as well!! Ice Poles are another good one ...even in winter!!!!

copperjar, of you're looking in - how did things go for you today? I hope all's well, but if it didn't go so good, then look ahead to your next job, which you just might like better! :D

Please everyone: Don't forget to put the amount of time free from fags in the Title bar of your posts, along with the method used to stop i.e. Cold turkey, Patches, Champix etc. It helps us all to know how far you've come, it helps others too. :) Thanks a lot.

Battle on folks, you're all doing so very, very well! Keep proud and happy at the new you! :)
