    Hi all,

I remember when i was on the patches, they would never stick to me...so ended up taping them on with surgical tape lol, then they gave me a rash so it was never ending

I am now starting day 14 of being smoke free :j and am so proud of myself :j its a great feeling to reach your own mini goals, 1 week, 2 weeks 3 weeks a month etc. :T

I hope everyone else is sticking with their quit, and that it is going well.:A

    best of luck

  • Hi there

    Can I join you guys.

I have quit and started smoking again about 5 times now, I have even given up for 8 months and then gone back on them, thinking I could just have 1 ciggie, be a social smoker ha ha. In the past I have done Cold Turkey, but I found it more difficult this time around. I have been smoking 20 a day since Feb.

I have joined the NHS 5 week Stop smoking programme and started the patches on Monday morning.

So far so good, I find the evenings quite difficult but the patch is working fine and I am not having any side effects which is good.

I have to go back to the chemist this evening for the carbon minoxide test and more patches.

Hopefully we can support each other on this journey.

I have a friends birthday tomorrow evening so know that might be difficult with meal, drinks and dancing I will realy fancy a smoke, as I did last night when out with friend for a meal.

    Anyway that my story.
  • Hi everyone,
I'm still smoke free and finding it strange. I went on a training day yesterday, and I don't believe there was a single smoker among the group of 40 people there:T. Best of luck to all the new names and congratulations to all the familiar names - it's great to see everyone doing soooo well!

I can't say I feel I'm a 'non-smoker', nor do I feel I'm a 'smoker'. I'm still me, and I feel like I could just as easily be smoking as not, the only difference now is that I feel it is my choice not to smoke. The minute I have a cigarette, that choice is gone again and I'd be back to 20 or 30 a day as quick as lightning.

I also realise I have to be very careful about how much coffee I drink from now on - I've become very sensitized to it, and more than two cups leaves me sick and shaky for the rest of the day, as I found to my cost yesterday!

    Cigarettes not smoked: 3035
    Money not spent: €1313.27
    Coffee reduced from 8 - 10 cups/day to 1 or 2
Petrol saved: I no longer hop in the car to run to the shop or to work, so that's a saving I hadn't really taken into account.
I have started back at walking and am dusting off the dreaded workout dvd which I'd let slide over the past few weeks, and the hunger I felt every evening has abated over the past week or so, thankfully, so hopefully the weight will stabilize from now on.
    Win win all round!
I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

    Hi Debie,

I am also new here (joined 2 weeks ago when i quit) and I have been welcomed with open arms, as im sure you will also be, so from me, welcome, and good luck in your non smoking.

In the same breath I am going to congratulate you, as you say you have had a few hiccups and ended up on the fags again, but you keep coming back to quit, you need to not take that one ciggy that can make it all crumble, although i know how tempting it can be :D i have every faith in you for your upcoming night out :j

SplishSplash, well done on the amount you have saved and not smoked, I only dream and impatiently wait until i can say ive been quit for 3 months, instead im excitedly telling people i am on day 14 lol, which for me is quite a feat in itself :rotfl:

As you have done splishsplash this is what I have saved so far :T

    Time Quit: 1 week, 6 days, 13 hours & 20 minutes
    Cigarettes not smoked: 542 (OMG)
    Amount Saved: £166.17
    Life saved: 1day, 21 hours & 10 minutes

And like yourself i did not take into account the petrol from the silly trips to the shop for fags, and the money saved from picking up pointless bits in said shop, which i no longer do :)

    Good luck all

Hi everyone and thank you such a lovely welcome.

Thanks Sue for the private message with all the hints and tips

Well I have just come back from the chemist and feel quite chuffed as the Carbon reading has gone from 17 last Friday to a magical 1 and that is just with the 5 days not smoking so I am really suprised at how it has come down so quickly.

I will treat myself to something nice tomorrow as a reward, maybe a nice wooly jumper for this horrible cold weather. I thought today how good it was not to be going out for a ciggie in this weather.

Thanks again everyone, and I am so glad I started to try again. I have another weeks supply of patches at the same strength and then they will start to be reduced.

Take care everyone and I'll be back to say hello later.

    Onward and upwards :j
  • Hey everyone I have just got in from work and have been looking for help online to stop smoking and found this forum, :j
So My name is Laura i am 22 and this will be my second attempt at giving up smoking! I only starting smoking again in June this year after giving up for 8 months and I really want to keep it up, the reason i strruggled last time was because at my job smoking is the 'thing' to do socially. I have to have more will power this time. I have a stash of patches and an inhaltor which i will start on again as I had my last cig at 20.00 this evening!

Everyones stories are amazing i hope i can do as well as everyone

I wish everyone lots of luck! :T

Hi Laura, debie,smash7 and ross and a very warm welcome. Great that you are determined to stop smoking and you are in the right place for lots of support here. I found it very helpful to read back over old posts as well as the current ones - great when I found 1 from someone who has stopped for a while at the start of their journey.

Keep it up everyone....................because you're worth it! ;)
