Congratulations on quitting AND on having saved all that cash tallyhoh, you've done wonderfully! :T
Hi Ross and a very warm welcome to the thread! All the very best with Champix and with quitting. Please note that we have a great support team here and you're welcome to use it.
Hi ml2008, do try and relax into stopping. If it's the phsychological part of it that's getting to you then, even though you're using the patches, try and view it in a "I won't have any fags today, but I can smoke again tomorrow IF I want to" sort of way. You're still worrying where there really is no need to; after all although it would be lovely if it happened, you're NOT making a life time committment right now - rather you'll see how it goes day by day by day ....... If you happen to have a phone and can download apps, then have a look at the choice on iTunes. I'd also suggest you keep right on reading the Alan Carr book AND but one of his CDs, having it talking to you might be just what you need! Don't worry about your friend either; itselliebell has told you in a great way what patches do and I think it's great to wean folk off. You can do it ml, you CAN!Take up a hobby!
Great news itselliebell on 7 weeks free!!! :T:T Very well done indeed! Great advice given to ml2008, thanks a lot!
Well done Catherine, you're doing marvellously! Don't worry, so many of us have been bad mummy's whilst yearning for a fag when the attention should have been solely on the kiddies, but we're there for them when it counts and THAT's what's imporant! They'll be so very proud of you when they're a little older.
BTW, you're OH is an angel and so supportive obviously. A wonderful idea of his for you all to celebrate!
Oh dear Payless, you did make me giggle about eating your own body weight of cocolate. Look out in a few weeks time! Why not try some apples, carrots or Ice Poles, at least none of those are fattening!
Hi DD isn't it BUSY indeed! Though it's quite possible it'll be the same or busier after New Year. How's the cat?
Excellent news copperjar! 2 weeks is a long time in the world of quitting and you've done yourself proud!! :T:T
Ah...tis good to see so many of you helping each other and answering the questions of others. Keep it up as not only is it doing them good...it's doing YOU so much good too!Very well done indeed ALL. Now if we can all get ml2008 to stop.........

I ended up buying another 10 yesterday...I think I'm overthinking this lol, no point dwelling on it wondering whether I can do it or not, it's a no brainer really isn't it...the last one is gone and I have quit now.
Thanks for all the support and advice everyone it's great to hear from people in the same position.
Here we go0 -
Ml2008 go for it. Let's face it, if you don't quit then the only other alternative is to be a smoker.
It is that simple really.

very impressive! well done
that's seriously inspirational.
Can i just ask a quick question to any of you that have already quit. Just off the phone with a friend who tells me that patches gum etc aren't 'really quitting' and that you have to go cold turkey in the end anyway...given me something to think about although I'm NOT backing out of my decision to quit one way or the other.
What do you think? Which method worked best for you?
thanks
i honestly think theyre brilliant, nearly 10 weeks for me now.0 -
why dont you go to your doctor or local smokefree centre and try champix?
i honestly think theyre brilliant, nearly 10 weeks for me now.
I have to completely agree, I have tried the patches, the gums, the lozenges, the inhalator, electronic ciggies, and Zyban to no avail
Champix has been the best for me, i am now on day 6 smoke free :T now i know that is not a lot of time, but that is briliant for me, little to no cravings, and you have that secret smile to yoursaelf knowing you have gone x amount of days without the need to smoke
whichever method you choose, it must be remembered that you must want to give up also, otherwise like my previous attempts where i was told to give up, you hit a brick wall
Good luck, and we all look forward to our new non smoking futures:jSmoke free since: 13th November 2010

Another vote for Champix, oh and a desire for me not to have my daughter by my bedside, as I rattle my last breathe off at the age of 60 like my mum and dad.S!!!!horpe0 -
I really can't believe it sometimes but I have not smoked a cigarette for five weeks and 12 + hours !!!!. I really am still feeling on top of the world. I can't deny that there have been "moments" but I now find they tend to be around irregular activities - i.e. going out for a meal/drink with friends, spending an entire day shopping - in the past these would have involved careful planning of the venue and when on the shopping trip, where us "smokers" would meet for our "fix". Amongst all the other positives I feel for being an ex/non smoker, what I have learned this week is that I am far more relaxed without having to give a thought to planning a nicotine "fix". I really don't know what has made it easier this time but I believe it really has to do with not what I am going to lose - But what I have gained !!!
- I am breathing in clean air into my lungs
- In view of my recent diagnosis I am not relying on anyone else to fix the damage but I am responsible for helping myself
- I have nice smelling clothes
- I have nice smelling hair
- I have nice smelling bed clothes
- I have nice smelling breath
- I have fresher/clearer skin
- In 5 weeks I have NOT smoked 700 cigarettes
- In 5 weeks I have NOT spent 58 hours smoking
- Hubby and I are going into town tomorrow to purchase a winter coat for me which is my "reward" - and I know I'm going too feel like a million dollars in it
Love to you all and keep going, keep going XXXX0 -

Well done, mustkeephoping0 -
A particularly inspiring post mustkeephoping!
Many congratulations on 5 whole weeksand a day now! :T:T:T It's amazing all the effort you've put in to feeling the way you do right now, the way you've described above and if that doesn't inspire your fellow quitters and those reading the thread then nothing will.! I know you have big health problems, but just look at how you're helping yourself get back to the best health possible! Your Consultant will be thrilled to bits at his exemplary patient!!!
So, how are you doing now, ml2008? I so hope you've started off with your patches - or are giving thoughts to Alan and Ross' suggestions of trying Champix - or was it you that wasn't allowed it?
Well done, Ross, that's your first week complete by now then!!! :T A major event for any ex-smoker.
I have to close with mustkeephoping's words of hope to you all and to all those viewing with intentI sincerely hope ml2008 reads your entire thread MKH!
"Dear All of you who are on your smoke free journey with me, I sincerely wish you a happy stress free journey - not easy, but easier that expected once I felt that I was stronger than any hold nicotine had over me - if I could beat the demon for one day, well .....................try it, you'll be suprised"
Have a lovely weekend everyone and enjoy your healthier selves.
