    Wow.

These last few pages are the best I have ever read on here, so positive and full of so many people actually fighting the evil nocotine:j:j:j:j:j:j

It really did make me happy. :D:D:D

Well done all, and keep up the tremendous work. And COPPERJAR keep thinking the way you do and you will get through quitting easily. :T:T

    To answer some questions.
I have not become more prone to illness since giving up
I cannot really see any health increase (if I am honest)
    I am MILES richer.
There is absolutely no difference when tasting food, for me.
I hate the smell of someone who has just had a smoke but I like the smell of someone smoking.

Keep up the good work everyone.:beer::beer:

I had a 24 hour patch on last night and had a naughty dream :D involving my boss  :(:o. Why do I always dream about work with them. I'm going to start taking them off before I go to sleep again. I forgot last night.

Sue and DD - were your nose ops because of post nasal drip? I've been given 3 different types of steroid nasal spray for it but none of tghem work any more. Hopefully, quitting smoking will get rid of or ease it but if not I'd like to know what options are available. My Gp just says "I know it's a very annoying condition. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids and have you tried steam?"

    Hi everyone

Jumping in on this thread I'm quitting later today. I have about 6 cigs left and some people have told me to flush them down the loo or bin them but realistically if I do that I know I'll only want to replace them. I have patches and an inhalator that the pharmacist gave me so I will be using those.

I smoke about 30 a day and have smoked for 20 years. I really need to stop, I have that highly attractive smokers wheeze starting at age 35 and it's really worrying me. Also the irony of being on a money saving website daily and yet continuing to throw money down the drain on cigs isn't lost on me lol.

Would really value any tips how to get through the first few days. I have quit a few times before the longest being for 8 months when I then stupidly thought one wouldn't hurt. Here I am 3 years later stopping again.

A very warm welcome to the thread ml2008! Sometimes it may appear as if we're slightly bonkers on here, but we have a great support team and you're welcome to use it.

Don't listen to the thoughts of others, do what you know to be the best way, and if getting rid of the last few fags your way is the best way, then go ahead. Oh, what a shame it is that folk roll along nicely having quit and then make that fatal error to "just try one"! :( Never mind, you've quit before and you CAN do it again; you know that yourself so have a look through the PM, read through the posts on here and you'll soon have a lot of help ...and that's nothing to all the support given to you, personally here. Please do your best to come on the thread and let your feelings out, whatever they are; and even if at the time no one's here, writing it all down can be so very beneficial.

I'm not sure if I put it in my PM these days, but when you may be having cravings, drink water, eat fruit and exercise as much as possible as that alone releases endorphins into the brain and makes you feel so very good. Also, suck on an Ice Pole! It may sound odd, but one of our very successful quitters (feedumall) swore by them and so have others since. Also brushing your teeth at such times is a great way to put you off any thoughts of cigs, the freshness is something you want to regain, go for it!!! :D You'll soon lose that wheeze if you quit now and quit for LIFE!!! Yours! All the very best, ml2008!

Wonderful work, Daz!!! :T I'm glad you put your answers on as it's sometimes quite amazing how differently folk are affected afterwards. As you also say: There is something marvellous going on here, so many good vibes which is good for quitters ....and good for those thinking about doing so too!!! ;)

Hi Payless, another one for dreaming those naughty ones I see! I thought you were mad at your boss the other day...a love hate relationship maybe!!! :rotfl: ;)

Re your Dr saying about steam, that's used mostly if you're blocked up, it's good too. However, if you're as runny as I believe you are then be careful as if my nostils get too 'empty' the air whizzes up them and makes them so darned painful, beware! Take a test and close one nostril off then breathe through the other, if it's easy to do then I wouldn't think you'd need steam at all. Try the test on the other and see how it goes.

With regard to my nasal problems; It turned out on being referred to an ENT Consultant that I had polyps, which had to be removed. They grew back a few years later and I had them done again. Not a pleasant op, but many, many folk have it and it certainly relieves what I was suffering from prior to them. I spent most of my days laying down as it was like a ruddy waterfall!!! Leave it for around 3 months and see how things are, though the sprays tyour Dr's given you may just do the trick beautifully anyway. Just don't worry as no 2 folk are the same! :)

    Must dash folks, tea time!!!

Hi ml2008 and good luck quitting. I have some cigarettes in a drawer because I like knowing they are there. I quit just over a week ago and haven't touched them. They are just there in case, a bit of a comfort blanket. I think I'd panic if I had none in the house. I have found that keeping busy is the best way to handle the first few days. I completely cleaned the bathroom and kitchen. Plus my bedroom and sitting room have never been tidier. I find that I don't think about smoking so much when I'm active. It's when I'm relaxing that I really miss them.

The patches are great though. They certainly make the cravings bearable. Keep your inhalator handy. I have found that my worst times are when I first get out of bed in the morning but even that is getting better.

This is my 3rd time quitting, 3rd time lucky, hopefully. I realise now that I start becoming a bit complacent when I've quit for a while and then think the that I can handle "just one" cigarette. Not this time.

Sue I can breathe easily when I block each of my nostrils so the steam may not be a good idea and may be the cause of the cold air hurting my head so much. My post nasal drip has never emerged from my nose, it always goes down the back of my throat. The steroid nasal sprays just don't work any more. They did when I first started using them but eventually my drip just came back. One of them stopped working after right I quit smoking the 1st time. Ironically, the drip was my main motivation for stopping at that time. I've had it for about 7 or 8 years now. I'll give it some time though to see if my new lack of toxins will help.

thanks for the welcome :) I'm seriously terrified about giving them up but I will do it! I'm determined to get rid of it once and for all, I'm spending way too much on these things, almost £70 a week!! It has to stop and the health benefits alone are reason enough for quitting.

    Nice to meet you :)

ml2008, please, please, please don't worry or be fearful in any way about quitting. Think not about what you'll be losing in life, just concentrate on all that you'll be gaining as a result of this healthy ife you're after. Read through the "Good friend v Bad friend" bit of the PM and keep it in mind. Wedon't need any bad friends in our lives, they only way us down and are nothing but a pest! :(

You know all the health problems that come along with persistant smoking and YOU don't want to become a statistic of emphysema, COPD or worse (!!) due to keeping on with the fags. Think back to when you didn't smoke and how uncomplicated life was when you were fresh, clean and not stinking of smoke; to when you didn't need to go outside in all winds and weathers - to puff away on a smelly old fag! Whenever you have a craving visualise a jar with loads of stinking butts in, then imagine that jar filled with water and left to fester! Imagine the stench of that!!!!! Enough to disgust the most avid of puffers!

You say you spend almost £70 a week.... Ok, so get a pot and put all the money into it that you would have spent on fags, then watch it all mount up! Treat yourself to something you really like after a week, possibly at the end of every week, but always put the amount taken out onto a piece of paper in the pot so you still see the amount you haven't spent. Mostly though ml2008, if you want to count something, count all the fags you haven't smoked and think of the benefits you're already earned yourself. You've done it all before ml2008 so you know you can do it again!

Download one of the Silk Quit counters, they keep tabs of the amount of fags you haven't smoked and much more, no end of folk say they really do help them.

Keep strong ml2008, you have some good help with the patches and inhalor, you could give yourself a wonderful Christmas present this year ..a fag-free life! :) All best wishes, Sue x

Aha, Payless, I didn't realise you'd had such a long problem with your sinuses. Do like you say and leave it for a while and just see how things go, quitting might just be the making of your problems!

With all that I went through, I can honestly say that I never once wished I'd not given up - absolutely no way! All the best, Payless, and I hope it gradually gets easier and easier for you.

DD, I really do hope your cat is ok, or will soon be. x

Have a good day everyone and be so very, very proud of all you've accomplished, it's what YOU have done - no one else! :j

thanks Sue :) I haven't bought anymore cigs and have been torturing myself lighting one and only smoking half putting it out and having it later to make the ones I had last. I now have 2 left and they will be gone very soon as I smoke quickly in the mornings.

I have already started the 'oh I can quit after xmas' debate with myself but the truth is I can't. It's 6 weeks til Xmas roughly and that would save me £420 roughly between now and then. I can't justify spending that sort of money anymore. I have 2 ps3s to buy (among other things lol) and that money would go a long way towards getting them so the patch will be on this morning.

Thanks again for all the advice!
