I just wanted to say hi to Copperjar.

I had to quickly read your post as I must get to work but a lot of what you said reminded me of my previous experience in quitting.

I had been given Zyban by my doctor. They worked brilliantly and I stopped no problem. Doh! I then started again and was too embarrassed to go back to the doc.

It was just me and my nicotine patches, but after a few days on them and the help of the lovely people on here I was off and running and here I am still smoke free and absolutely delighted (if a little amazed) to be so!

It was great to be able to come on here to express my anger, sadness and frustrations and slowly but surely one day melted into another and before I knew it I was a non smoker for real. (Not one who "had" to stop and was being deprived of a wonderful crutch) - where is that rolling eyes smilie when you need it!

Anyway just come back as Daz says even if you fail (which you will not) as it keeps you on the path and out of nictotine's clutches which is the main thing.

    All the best. :)

    7 weeks 2 days champix

hi everyone, been busy with work but thought i better update you.
and dazco i am still off the fags lol. its getting easier all the time now. i hardly ever think of smoking to be honest.
i have just under 3 weeks worth of champix left. i dont get so many vivid dreams now for some reason? did yours fade out dazco?????

i feel a lot healthier too, and smell a lot better lol. the smell of smoke on people is so noticeable whereas i never noticed it before. i really dont like how it smells now.

ive also started to eat healthier these last 2 weeks, i was eating loads of junk/snacks when i stopped smoking. but now i dont crave them.
i think it was just something to do instead of smoking? i have cut out crisps, biscuits and chocolate.

keep up the good work everyone.
    and thanks for your support.

Nice one Alan :T:T:T:T:T:T. Very well done.

My dreams did tail off so I stopped taking them :rotfl:. I quit the Champix a month early, due to laziness. :o

    COPPERJAR;
Some tough love for you. Please stop using stressful events as a reason to smoke!!
You have the stress of the situation to deal with AND THEN the stress and disappointment of having given in to the weed.

The next time you have a stressful time use it to your advantage, use it to prove to yourself that you do not need to poison your body when things are not tickety-boo. Use it to show those people who annoy you that they cannot force you to throw carcinogenics down your throat. Use it to show nicotine that it does not control you!!!

And, Copperjar, I promise you that when you are through the small stressful period you will feel three times better than if you did cave in.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

You will feel strong and in control, mainly because you will be strong and in control :rotfl::rotfl:.

    Go for it!!!!!!!

You are using fags as a crutch. A hosepipe is a better crutch

Thank you all for the lovely welcome and to Sue-UU for the amazing PM. And to dazco for the tough love - you're completely right!
2nd day smoke free. Only actually thought about smoking once and that was when I left work to drive home (habit would be to light up immediately and have 2 or 3 in the 15 min drive home  ). The cravings aren't bad at all, its the habit and excuses (i.e being stressed). Feel pretty disappointed that i had those silly wobbles from Thursday last week - otherwise I'd be 2 weeks smoke free!

  • Evening everyone,
It's great to see so many new names joining the thread - best of luck to all of you!

I'm back from a week in Lanzarote, and I was SOOOOOO tempted to pick up a carton of cigs from the minute I landed there. I think it was mainly because they were so very cheap - €22.60 for 200. I really, really struggled for the first couple of days, to the point where I was thinking 'well, I could smoke for the week, and go on Champix when I get home'.
Anyway, I got over myself after that, and am now that much stronger having weathered the temptation, but it took me by surprise just a little.

Copperjar, stick with it, you are doing brilliantly:beer:. You sound strong and ready to go the distance despite the chaos around you at the moment. I hope today was your third smoke-free day.

mustkeephoping, you and your hubby have done so well already - how great is it that you can work at being healthier together :T.

an4rew, I hope November 1st went well and that each day since has gone just as well :A.

koolcat99, I hope you got on well at your meeting, and would love to hear if you set a date to stop?

xxlaurissaxx, I think it's a bit of a learning curve for all of us, and your blip is just that, a blip, already receding into the distance. The important thing is that it shouldn't undo the fantastic work of the past 12 weeks.

allen673 and itselliebel, I envy your ability to cut back on junk food already - I think I just use the ex-smoking as an excuse to stuff my face :o.

Dundeedoll and Dazco, you're both going great guns, I still feel like I'm not too far behind - it's such a great feeling to have to click the back arrow on the taskbar calender three times to get to my quit date!

Sue and Larmy, as always, thanks for your unstinting support and words of wisdom - you are amazing.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

    Well done splishsplash...............that's BRIILIANT :T:T:T

For those that don't know, I gave up with Zyban in Nov 2001. First year was easy peasy...........2nd year was easy.............hubby left exactly 2 yrs later and I wasn't tempted to start again!
After 3 years it got harder...........I remember in the autumn of 2004 I thought I would book a holiday abroad around xmas time (boys at dad's) and am ashamed to admit the main reason was so I could lay by the pool in the sun for 2 weeks reading my book and..............SMOKING
Didn't go on hols, but did start smoking again in Sept 2005..........although only Fri eve - Sun teatime once a fortnight while boys at dad's. I did then start to smoke at work and evenings (secretly......outside, boys didn't know........waited 'til they were in bed) Tried really hard to stop, but didn't last a day.
Met the love of my life a couple of years ago.......his only fault? smoking! Obviously that encouraged me to smoke more :(
We split up in the summer and I just stopped.........no plan to, just did.
Not sure why, but it feels sooo different this time.
Ooh and I have noticed a real difference in my skin today :D

Yeah, I remember you posting just after me. It's fab how the time adds up!

Sue and Larmy, as always, thanks for your unstinting support and words of wisdom - you are amazing.

    Couldn't agree more :T:T

Hope all is well for everyone

    Hi DD.

I remember well your first post, what a difficult time you were going through and yet you had this determination to overcome your smoking habit.

It really is a testament to the will and courage we all have deep inside us, but to do it when things are at their toughest - well I think you are amazing and such an inspiration for everyone! Thank you.

Look at us, Friday nights (Saturday now) and not a secret fag in sight. We got there and didn't we do well. ;):T:j:):A

Have a great weekend everyone. Just keep going.

Splishsplash well done to you on resisting those fags. You would have felt so bad if you had given in to the temptation.

It is amazing how the mind still can flirt with the idea of giving in and then starting to quit all over again. If only it were that easy! Ah the lure of the liar that is nicotine!!

I was with my smoking friend tonight, think she had a couple while I was there but it did not trouble me. I just find her incomprehensible, after having her arteries all flushed out and numerous other health problems, that she still dares to smoke!

copperjar, It's so good to see you've settled in to a smoke-free life AND with us here! However, not too many thoughts back-tracking to where you might have been...if only! It's never worth it. Be proud of how far you've come now and look ahead to all the proud feelings you'll have after accomplishing your goal. :D There are so many of us here who have done it, all we now want is for YOU to join us - and you CAN...we KNOW you CAN!! ;)

Well done Daz for that pep talk!!! It obviously served the purpose.

So very well done for having resisted the fags splishsplash!!! That took some doing as being on holiday with cheap fags is a real pull, but you overcame it and should be chuffed to bits at it!! :D

Like Larmy, DD, I can also remember that first post of yours ...and look at how far you've come since then! :T That chap'll possibly never know it, but he did you a real favour - or you achieved it in spite of him!!! :rotfl:

It's so good to see so much success here, people, so much positive thinking too. That's the way to move right on ahead and each of you KNOW you can! Keep right on and stay strong as well as looking at all the good things quitting has already done for you! Breathe in that pure air and exhale any old particles from within...you're looking GOOD!!!

Day 4 smoke free for me :D
Thanks for all the encouragement, it really does help.

Had a good tip yesterday from my friend. He said if you feel you desperately want a cigarette, tell yourself you can go and buy some if you still want one in two hours. This takes away the anxiety (you're not denying yourself anything - you can have one in 2 hours) which then takes away most of the craving. And after 2 hours...you've usually forgotten about it.
