Onto day 5 now and feeling strong - although I did wake up thinking of cigarettes for some reason

Managed to break a couple of habits yesterday. Went to the local garage for milk and didn't buy ciggies (I usually bought some from there 4 or 5 times a week!). And was feeling a bit stressed out last night about bits and bobs but didn't dwell or think cigarettes were the answer as I would have a week ago.

It does get easier like you've all said. The hardest part really is just breaking those silly habits and rituals we all have around smoking.

Welcome back Elfen - it's so good to hear from you again. Hop back on the bicycle and you will get there.

Tulip - Oh how I can identify with you. You have tried everything and anything, just like I did. Now you can really face this thing head on. You need to establish in your head how much of your life it has robbed. Worst of all your peace of mind. In my opinion, the money is an aside.

I think you are now in the very best position, because you can now draw on your inner resources. The very ones that we all have been using nicotine instead of.

I used to reflect back on the child I once was, how I never needed to smoke, so how come I thought I could not live with out it now?

Focus on the precious body that the tobacco companies have conspired to ruin for you. They have robbed you of health, happiness and money. Focus on that, get angry and grab nicotine by the throat and kick it out of your life once and for all!

Oooh I am so angry on your behalf!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Tulip you are as beautiful as the flower you name yourself by. Get rid of the albatross once and for all.

All the best. Stay with us. :)

The above paragraph is so very true for us all, copperjar! For everyone who has smoked, or is still smoking, the only reason they still do so or (for us all here :T) have found it hard to quit is it all coming down to habits and rituals. Finding out what they are and seeking to break them is the key to getting back to the folk we once were. :D :j

You are doing wonderfully copperjar...be proud and stay firm! :) BTW, dreaming or thinking about smoking or fags during sleep is very, very common, all part of it playing on our subconscious. Don't worry about it, just accept it for what you now know it to be.

I think every quitter needs to recall that Larmy, an excellent point!!:T So too is the Albatross bit!! :)

Keep it up folk! Together we can help get you to where you want to be, but it's YOU who are putting in the real work, it's YOU who have the courage..the determination to see this through and reclaim your health! :j Bon Voyage, one and ALL....it's a GREAT trip you're on, enjoy it and be oh, so proud of yourselves. :)

I really really want a cigarette :( This is the worst I've felt so far. Have got myself all wound up about my ex, really upset and stressed out. Have resisted so far out of bloody mindedness but its hard. Bad day. I think I'll have a bath and then I won't be able to go out to the shop...

Not with desperately wanting an actual cigarette - I kind of have an 'emptyness' in me (can't really describe it)
Have been eating (and drinking herbal tea/water) like mad............not like me at all. Just can't seem to fill that void.

Sorry.........just needed to get that off my chest - it does help to post on here (thread seems a bit quiet tho'!)

Copperjar try saying this to yourself and it will help you get through when you feel the craving.

    Facing
    Accepting
    Floating
    Letting time pass

These are not my words of wisdom but from a book by a lady called Dr. Claire Weekes. It is for dealing with anxiety, but I use this tecnique for a lot of situations, especially when I am bored at work!

Hope you are feeling better by now. :)

It can be tough as DD has posted, but giving in always makes things worse, not better.

Thank you so much. Your post made me burst into tears for some reason, the kindness of a stranger on a forum, but I had my bath and didn't smoke. 6 days smoke free. God, it was an awful feeling, almost felt like a panic attack - but I'd be feeling even worse now if I'd smoked.

Thanks to you and larmy16
