  • Well here I am and thanks to this wonderful thread. So so pleased to be where I am and hubby is on week 2 also :j.

I did not ask Hubs to stop smoking, but he fully supported me by not leaving his cigarettes around and moving out of my sight while smoking (outside as we never smoked in the house). We both smell wonderful, and funnily enough neither of us are bad tempered !! but have realised that collectively we will save in excess of £350 per month  . I really don't "miss" smoking and feel that I've gained SOOOOOO much but lost NOTHING!!

Apologies if I seem so smug, but my goodness I am so so happy, and it really is getting easier. I've just got through a family wedding of weekend celebrations and can HONESTLY say that over 3 days there was only 1 x 1 second moment (and that was without patches as I had forgotten to take them with me). BTW I will continue with the NRT course just to give myself the best possible chance but I am feeling more confident as each day passes.

To all of you who are on the first steps of quitting - I sincerely hope you suceed, believe me - IF I CAN DO IT - ANYONE CAN !!

Thank you all soooo much for your support and as nemo says - "just keep swimming, just keep swimming"

XXXXXXX and good luck to all:T

  • 5 weeks - champix

all is still going well, have now started cutting back on the crisps and choc i was scoffing the first coupla weeks. my main mistake i believe the last coupla times, was trying to quit smoking, and trying to eat super healthy at the same time, depriving myself of everything! so this time, i just though, screw it, i will eat what i want when i want for the first month, and then slowly bring myself back to a healthier way of eating.

i still sometimes forget that i'm quitting smoking, not in that i want a cig, but in that i honestly do not think of cigarettes more than once or twice a week, whereas before it was "oooh want a cig, will chew bit of gum/suck on this inhalator". was having a drink at the weekend, and before we left i was saying to OH, i'll probably want a cigarette when i'm drinking, but even if i do have one puff it'll be pointless because these tablets work on the basis that they block your nicotine receptors, so i'll get no satisfaction. ended up not even thinking about the bloody things once while i was drinking, and even sat beside someone who was smoking, i never once thought i want one! haha

OH is on the mend and should be back to work next week (4 months chasing misdiagnosed kidney stones, turns out it's nerve damage) so he'll be coming home soon, and have told him he needs to thump me on the head to wake me in the mornings, haha

    How is everyone doing????

There are a few posters who have stopped posting, I hope they are still off the fags.

ANDY, how did your first non-smoking day go? Hope you got through it alright and with the same positive vibe you have shown already.

Please keep posting on here, everyone, even if you fail. The support is tremendous and the posters on here can help you get back on track again. This thread helped me so so much

just popping in to say Hi! Galloping at an alarming rate to being smoke free for a year, only six weeks to go and I just cant believe that I have done it!! Even giving up for a day was an achievment for me and I give credit for all my success to this forum it has been truly amazing! ! If your in the early stages of quitting just keep coming on here and Sue and Larmy will help you through to the other side and you`ll be smoke free, along with all the support of the other quitters who will spur you on! I`ll be back on 16th Dec for my party so mind bring the wine.. :rotfl:

Anybody who decides to give up on the 16th December has got to have real determination!!!

    The 'norm' would have been:
'I'll just get Christmas etc out the way and then I'll give up.............no point in even trying before then.'

BUT NO.........FEE100 was serious about stopping and did :T

Well done Fee - what an absolutely brilliant achievement...........you must be so so very proud of yourself!

FEE100, I'm 3 days behind you. It'll be a year for me 19 December (overlook the one slip which made me violently ill!).

The time has gone so quickly. If someone had said to me this time last year that by the same time 2010 I'd be a non smoker, I would never have believed them.

Once again, if I can do it, anyone can. Best wishes to all of you who are quitting or thinking about it.

    7 weeks 2 days champix

hi everyone, been busy with work but thought i better update you.
and dazco i am still off the fags lol. its getting easier all the time now. i hardly ever think of smoking to be honest.
i have just under 3 weeks worth of champix left. i dont get so many vivid dreams now for some reason? did yours fade out dazco?????

i feel a lot healthier too, and smell a lot better lol. the smell of smoke on people is so noticeable whereas i never noticed it before. i really dont like how it smells now.

ive also started to eat healthier these last 2 weeks, i was eating loads of junk/snacks when i stopped smoking. but now i dont crave them.
i think it was just something to do instead of smoking? i have cut out crisps, biscuits and chocolate.

keep up the good work everyone.
    and thanks for your support.

  • Hello everyone. I hope you don't mind me joining in - I really feel like I need some support to keep me off the ciggies - and you all seem sucha lovely bunch and are totally inspirational.

I'm 35 and had been smoking pretty heavily since I was 18. Particularly the last few years - going up to between 30 and 40 a day
I decided at the start of the year that I wanted to give up, but kept on putting it off. Had a few failed attempts on patches, gum and cold turkey - which resulted in massive rows with friends and familty and me being utterly miserable.

In May, I was prescribed Champix and did great. In fact, I think I became too complacent, stopped taking the tablets too early etc, but remained smoke free for 6 weeks. Then stupidly I had one cigarette (had to force it down!) on my 2 year anniversary which led to having the odd one every few days. My partner never really gave up despite pretending!

On to September, and my partner and I split up. It was awful and I'm still having major wobbles. I started smoking again - heavily. Pretty disgusted with myself I decided to get my life back on track and of course wanted to stop smoking again. Went back to the doctors and had to almost beg for Champix again but I got them. The first time round, when I set my stop date I didn't smoke again for 6 weeks. This time round, I extended my stop date, then have smoked 4 days in the 13 days since my stop date. It has usually been connected to feeling stressed out about the split from my ex, as well as work stresses (I work for a local authority and have the threat of redundancy looming). Today I finally think I made a breakthrough - was upset and obsessing about things, went for a drive ( I'd usually have a cigarette or 4 in the car) and despite desperately wanting one, I stayed strong.

So although its only day one (again) smoke free (I smoked yesterday) - I'm feeling much more confident today...with a few wobbles thrown in for good measure!

Sorry for the ramble, its good to get it down though!

    Ooooh poor you!
I tried sooo hard to stop and couldn't last a day but then I too split up with my partner and I DID give up! Bizarre..........still don't understand how I did that.

We have quite a few Champix stoppers on here, so will leave it to them to advise you regarding that.

Well done for coming on here...........and yes, this thread is BRILLIANT!!!
