  • Wow - this thread and the PM's are amaaaaazing !!!! Thank you all so much for the brilliant support.

I still get "moments" and have identified my triggers, but as each day passes I am more determined not to undo it all. Apart from the moneysaving, I have already noticed clearer skin, nice smelling clothes, and a general good feeling about myself !! Also when I go the the local village shop to buy milk it now costs me £1.28 rather than almost £8.00

BTW I have a confession to make, I have been trying for a couple of weeks and during that time kept a supply of cigarettes to hand, it didn't work for me, they were an easy cop out. Since not having immediate access to cigarettes it gives me some time to collect my thoughts, reflect and reason with myself that I really can do this.

Thanks all and good luck to those of you on your journey. I'll keep you posted

Somebody posted this on this thread 1 day and it struck a chord with me, so I edited it slightly, printed it and kept reading it.

Just thought I'd repost incase it helps some of our new gang:D

I hate having to make sure I've got enough fags for the day.

I hate having to shove a packet in my (already) overstuffed bag.

I hate going into the shops asking for 20 cigs.

I hate not wanting to talk to people because my breath stinks of smoke.

I hate that I spend £15 a week on something I set fire to.

I hate getting up 10 minutes earlier so that I can have a cigarette

I hate that I have to sit in the garden in the snow and rain.

I hate that I cant sit still after eating a meal.

I hate getting stressed in the morning just because I havent had my tea and fag yet.

DD, that is so good to see, and it's wonderful to know just how many people use this thread and get success from too. I'm sure it helps so much with having the chance to read right through it and to pick up the advice of others as they move along with their journeys.

You're doing so very, very well DD, and I'm hoping you're really feeling the benefits of having stopped. No doubt your lads are so pleased at their Mum's success this far too! :T:T Well done on not even contemplating the menthols, drown the little b*g**rs! :D

    Thanks for the praise.

Apart from on here there's only 1 person that's said: 'Well done'

My boys don't even know - as far as they're concerned I gave up in November 2001 and don't know about me starting again in 2005:eek:

No one really knew.........I was a secret smoker! I think that's why getting encouragement from all the lovely people on here has been such a benefit to me.
The 1 person is a lady I work with once a week and we'd regularly spend a whole Tuesday lunch hour having at least 3 coffees and about 4 cigs.
I still see her on a Tues lunchtime, don't have any coffee as I gave up tea/coffee as well as cigs and her smoking does not bother me at all and not once have I wanted 1 on these occasions.

I DO NOT WANT TO SMOKE AGAIN....................EVER

Hi again mustkeephoping! It's so good to hear of your instant delight in having stopped!! :T So many people notice the great benefits on giving up cigs, it's so good to see that you're one of those, looking for and being delighted at, all the great changes a few days can bring. Try doing something as soon as one of the "triggers" hits in, it only takes seconds for it to go. Even slowly sipping water can so quickly sort that out, it also makes you feel fuller and I think that helps all of us with 'craving'. Going from downstairs to upstairs too has the same affect.

Don't worry about the confession of having kept cigarettes by, many folk do that as it helps, you've obviously swiftly found that it does not, good for you! BTW, I truly can't believe the price of a bottle of milk where you live!!! ;) Amazing how one small packet can add up to something so big! All the very, very best of wishes mustkeephoping.

Apologies DD, I'd completely forgotten that no-one else knew! :o I remember you chatting to larmy about it now.

Whatever, we're ALL absolutely delighted for you as 11 + weeks is something to be so very, very thrilled about. I'm so proud of you DD, you're doing marvellously!!! :T:T

Well done on putting the "Reasons for hating fags" on again. I can't honestly remember who did it, but most of those make complete sense.

Another day, another few steps along the journey folks. Keep on the right path and you can't go wrong. Have a great day today...smoke-free! :D

  • 3 weeks champix

just over halfway to my dreaded 5 week stumbling block, and feeling so different to the previous 2 times i've tried to quit. before my mindset was "i'm a smoker, but i'm not smoking now", whereas now, i sometimes forget that i'm even quitting, in the best possible way, i just feel like a complete non-smoker!

have had a few stressful times and turned to my crochet instead of fags to calm myself.

only real problem i've been having is the vivid dreams, they are making it harder and harder to get out of bed in the morning. i normally wake up around 6-7 before i have to get up at 7.30, so i make sure i switch the bedside light on, and then i don't fall back into too deep a sleep, seems to be helping a little. although oh is sending me off to docs because he reckons my sleeping habits have always been mental, and am.. well tired wouldn't cover it, exhausted in evening, probably best he brought it up though, as i would have just gone on thinking, i just need to sleep better. truth is i sleep at least 9 hours a night, and could easily nap for 2 hours on the sofa, almost half my day wasted sleeping, and then 8 hours chained to the desk at work... not good!

    5 weeks - champix

hi everyone, your all doing really well, make sure you keep up all the work. ive been busy at work so i thought i better post an update.
well i am smokefree for just over 5 weeks now and i cant believe it. to be honest i cant believe how easy it has been to quit.

the last week has been really easy, i hardly ever think about smoking. and it does not bother me being around people smoking.
i have 5 more weeks taking the champix tablets. then its all down to me.
the vivid dreams have basically stopped now too, a shame lol as i liked them.

i have saved around £250 in 5 weeks from stopping smoking. i cant believe how much i spent on them.

i cant believe i spent so much money on a product that can actually kill you or shorten your life !

Well done with the amount of time itselliebell!!! :T You're really doing so well. However, please try to forget about the 5 week problem you've had in the past. This is NOW and for a little while try not to concern yourself with the amount of time...just focus on your sucess and be happy with it as it's amazing! :j Remember also your thoughts of being "a complete non-smoker". Be happy, you truly do deserve it!

Re the sleep problems: I seem to remember that you're a heavy sleeper anyway, needing 5 alarms to get you up - right?!! I wouldn't let the sleep become a major issue..you obviously must need it. Has your Dr ever checked out your thyroid? If not, ask him/her to please do so.

Excellent news Alan!!! :T Personally, I never doubted that you were simply getting along happily with quitting, though it seems as though you've been pretty busy counting up all your cash saved!! ;) Brilliant news Alan, what an amount that you'd otherwise have burnt!!! Keep at it, though I know you will.

Well done to everyone! You've all come quite a way already, just plod along merrily on your journey and breathe in that beautiful fresh air as you do. You'll all be different people come the finishing line! What a thought eh! :D

    Hi
I would just like to butt in on this thread, sorry I did not post from the begining but I have been reading through a lot of it.
Err.. 12th day on champix and I still havent given up bit am determined to.
The first few days of champix I felt a little ill while lighting up, not enough to prevent me though, I am on day 12 now and am unsure if I have what it takes lol! so sad!
The condition that you get champix here you have to attend smokers annonymous tomorrow is the day where everyome has given up by?
On my champix pack it says that you can have 14 days to give up!!!
I have not had a good week to be honnest. However I read half of Allan Carrs book the other day. I seriously think that I am just scared to quit, I am, what enjoyment and exitement will I get out of walking outside in to the great outdoors now without the reason.
Its a great book if you skip all the crap at the front, hopefully I will have read it by Friday and gave up on Saturday...

Hi Itselliebell and Alan. Well done to both of you - it's great to see and hear you are so positive now. Alan what will you do with all that money??

Koolcat if you see Itsellie's posts, she was feeling exactly as you do in the beginning and look at her now!

Smokers Anonymous, what a great idea. I suppose that as Champix is an expensive drug, they want to be as sure as they can you do intend to quit. Anyway, you can do it. :)

Quick hello to Sue and DD and all you smoke free people out there!

Very Many Congratulations, Larmy!!!!!:T:T:T:T:T 18 months is absolutely terrific!!! You've been amazing all the way through and sooo deserve all the pride you must be feeling!! Isn't it great when you get that far away from it all.!!!! GREAT NEWS!!!! :j

Hi and a warm welcome aboard, koolcat. You're getting so very close to actually quitting now and, rightly so, are frightened of letting go of the fags that - if you let them - will ruin your life! Be strong, KC and look at some of the posts on here and see just how THRILLED people are at having stepped outside of the smoking zone and are on their way to a far happier, healthier and wealthier life.

Fear is a horrible think KC, but in your case, it'll only be temporary, honestly! We're all fearful of letting go of them at first, terrified of what we'll do at such times that (we think) we needed them. Truth is, we so quickly discover that - we don't - and that we get along even better than we ever did when we puffed away on the blessed things. Think NOT of all that you'll lose in a life without them, think of all you'll gain on having finished with them. Think of your lungs - visualise them right now, a horrible brown colour and tarred up yukky colour - then visualise them further down the line when they're pinking up and not causing you to cough your guts up (if it hasn't happened yet, then believe me, it will!) or get terrible chest infections. Think of how your skin will look, you'll have that pink glow back...and your teeth will no longer be suffering as a result of the oxygen not getting to them! Think of how easy it'll be to exercise...even just going up and down stairs..you'll soon notice the difference. Now think of your pocket and all the money you're already about to begin saving AND what you'll be able to do with it.

You've come along way with Champix already KC, take those few extra steps and step back into the world you were in before you lit up that very first one. Think of what happened to Allan Carr as a result of smoking, do him and you proud by learning from it and moving into a wonderful life!!!! You WILL be thinking that in such a short time, I promise...and by the way, I quite nearly 12 years ago and am I ever thrilled to bits!

YOU CAN DO THIS koolcat, you'll see. ;)

Love and all best wishes, Sue x
