Thank you so much. Your post made me burst into tears for some reason, the kindness of a stranger on a forum, but I had my bath and didn't smoke. 6 days smoke free. God, it was an awful feeling, almost felt like a panic attack - but I'd be feeling even worse now if I'd smoked.

Thanks to you and larmy16
Very well done indeed copperjar!!! :T Now remember that you coped during that one and you can do so IF it happens again. Nothing worth doing in life comes easy, but they're are always ways to help yourself through such times. Remember what DD has said, and the phrases Larmy advises by the Dr and keep them close by.

One thing to always remember is, that if you feel at all like crying - give way to the tears, it's natures way of helping, so take advantage of it, she knows best and you'll feel so much better afterwards. :) Another day to chalk up copperjar, be so very, very proud of yourself and to a degree, look upon your ex going as being the strength you needed to quit smoking! Gain something from it, if that makes sense. How about marking off the days on a calendar, make them really visible so they stand out whenever you walk past it - then grin at your achievement!

Brilliantly dealt with DD!!!! By golly, you've come a long way!

    Have to dash for now.

Very well done Copperjar,at least when the anguish of the situation has passed you can smile and say that you looked nicotine in the face and told it to get lost.

Maybe soon you will laugh in it's face :beer::beer:

But nicotine is evil and cunning and he will put even more tests and obstacles in your way. You have to get out of the mindset that fags will make it better. They are an irrelevance, something stupid that you used to do.

feeling good, getting so much crocheting done! stopped taking the tablets last thursday, just cause i totally forgot about them friday and saturday, and thought, well, what's the point if i don't feel like i need them? have had maybe 4 or 5 instances in the past fortnight where i've thought about having a cigarette, but then i think about how long i've been off them already, and just think, what is the actual point of smoking?

since i've been off tablets i have been nowhere near as tired, and finding it easier to wake in morning. doc said that stopping smoking makes your sleep sounder, so maybe that's why i've had long-running problems with sleepiness and waking up.

have to say thanks to everyone on this thread, it's like having a group of cheerleaders! oh is all better and is back home this weekend, back to work sunday night, no more stressing over our situation!

I've taken up tap dancing as exercise and although I get red, hot and bothered.. at least I can breathe :)

    Keep at it. :T:T

I've been reading some very inspirational posts here. :)

I quit smoking on Monday (for the 3rd time :(). I've smoked for 35 years and because of it have developed gum disease and since lost a tooth. I had another extremely painful abcess 2 weeks ago and thought "I've had enough". My dentist says that my abcesses are mainly down to smoking plus I had my half century mot at the doctors recently and my only risk factor for heart disease was smoking.

I am using patches but really crave a cigarette every morning. I can't wear the patches overnight as the resulting dreams make me feel as if I've had no sleep. Evenings aren't as bad as I anticipated though. I'm keeping busy by cross stitching christmas cards when I'm not at work. I also have the added incentive of promising myself a horse, something that I longed for in my teenage years and a love that I have recently rediscovered. The weekly cost of my cigarettes will go a long way towards paying the livery costs of a horse.

So, fingers crossed, I am going to stop for good this time. Does anyone else enjoy the smell of people who have just been out for a smoke or am I becoming a bit odd:o?

    Hi Payless.

I too have had problems with my teeth due to smoking - and I was what people call a very light smoker. It could also be genetic too.

No matter how light a smoker I was, I was nonetheless hugely psychologically addicted and had to exercise iron will over my habit. In my latest days, I smoked only on a Friday evening, it was ridiculous.

No I dont like the smell of people who have been outside smoking, but I do still quite enjoy a whiff of live as opposed to stale smoke.

Stick with us and you will get along just fine. Also a very warm welcome to you. Things like cross stitch can keep you absorbed so it's a very good hobby to have. :)

  • Hi Payless,
Well done to you for stopping already, you're over the hump of the week already, and you know what they say, third time lucky:beer:.
I found I enjoyed the smell of cigarettes in the first few weeks after I quit, but now I seem to find it a little bit unpleasant to be honest. I also seem to be especially sensitive to the smell lately. Not that I'd ever be one of the 'reformed hoor' brigade, but I have to admit I'm not loving the smell any more.

Everyone seems to be doing so well - congratulations to all who have chosen to continue to be smoke-free..

Splishsplash I have found that though I don't mind at all if my friend smokes in her own home! (ha), it seems that I now am bothered physically by the smoke. My voice goes all croaky within minutes of her lighting up!

Very strange and a surprise to me.

You have done very well yourself.:)

Hi Payless and a very warm welcome to the thread. :) This is the place to be if you need help and support, and there are many here who love to give both!

With your morning problems/cravings, try to alter things around a little as most cravings come from associating certain actions, foods, drinks etc with a fag. If it's worse when you get up then do something straight away that forces you into not even thinking too much about it, go for a shower, walk or do a job that's alien to normal at that time of day. Cleaning your teeth is a good'n, you start the mouth tingling straight away - and who wants to think of fags when we have nice, fresh breath. :D

Another thing to do to help you is, get a pic of a breed of horse you love and put it near the bed, then when you view that in the morning.....what more can I say!!! :j I've sent you a PM, I hope it's of use. You really have my sympathy with the teeth and gums problem and I hope both soon recover. Each day is a step closer to better health, teeth, gums......and a HORSE!!! :) Keep chatting to us and letting us know how you're doing, we're ALL with you throughout your journey! :) BTW, I hate the smell of people who have just been out for a smoke - but I can either love or detest the smell of the smoke of a lit ciggy. It affects us all differently.

Hi splishsplash, and aren't you doing so very well indeed!!! :T Keep at it and the journey will soon be at the stage where it flies by....into great health - again! :j

Hi there Naomi!!!! :hello: It's so very good to see you back again!
Very many congratulations on a year and 10 months!!!! :T:T:T Fantastic news! :j Feedumall was back last week and she too is doing marvellously!! I hope your little one is well, she'll be so proud of her Mum, for sure! :D Lovely to see you Naomi, don't forget us! :D

Very well done, itselliebell.!!! :T How very wise you are with your thoughts of "what is the actual point of smoking?" :) NOTHING!!! I'm so pleased you OH is much better and home, please wish him well.

Larmy - that croakiness can often affect me in the same too! Weird!

Stay strong folks, chalk up every day..why not, it's such a great achievement to have been freee throughout it and deserves to be seen as YOUR SUCCESS! :D
