You're possibly right in your thoughts choille, and you do well in keeping up your guard. If gum is helping you then stick with it (scuse the pun) as it's all a case of doing what we're each happy with.

I detest the smell of folk who stink of stale (or otherwise) smoke, but now and again I quite like the smell of smoke .......though at other times it makes me feel so very, very sick!

BTW, where the weight's concerned, how about using a dvd 3 - 5 times a week? There are plenty out there to choose from, just a thought. I found that used to help me a lot, a lot of walking too. When going up stairs, do so twice every time...you'll notice the difference. As you say, just small steps......but plenty of em!! :D All the best choille. :)

Nearly missed you there, Pam. You put all that in a great way. It's very true and described my feelings at the time to a T.

I'm off for an early night tonight, a very busy week last week and I'll possibly need another to get over it.

Sue x Another fresh week beginning everyone, another week behind you!

frugalpam - wonderful - a year longer than I. How wonderful to be free of the fags.

Sue - many thanks again. That's a good idea with the DVD.

    Cheers.

I want to quit smoking so much that i can't seem to do it LOL

Tried The Patch, The Gum, The Lozenges and Cold Turkey... i feel even worse because of the multiple failures.

I don't consider myself a weak person, i've lost 6 stone in weight in the last 12 months and quit coffee, cola too.

I've switched to the roll ups for a while now and i seem to do a little less of those.

The worst thing for me is feeling like i cannot function without cigarettes and my concentration gets so bad that i end up staring at 4 walls all day waiting for this hell to end.

Anf4rew you sound amazing. I only wish I had half your courage and determination.

Maybe the thought of quitting is just too much on top of all that you have achieved. Maybe you worry that quitting the nicotine will lead you back to eating too much.

All I can say is hello, good evening and welcome. Why not hang around with us and see if you catch the quitting bug? I am sure the fact we continue to succeed is down to the encouragement we give to each other.

Sorry got your name wrong! :)

Hi An4rew - try to get an appointment with a cessation worker.

They will assess what type of smoker you are & what will suit you best.

I started Champix & had to stop taking them coz of side effects. I eventually managed to see a cessation officer/nurse whatever they are called & she said that I should never have been on the champix & gave me loads of useful advice - same on this thread. If your here, you want to stop.

I did. If I can after 32 years, you can too.

    All the very best

i can't figure out how long i've been off them, haha. i quit on weds 29th oct, but am confusing myself as to whether to count today as it's my 5th day of the second week...

missi1 glad your first day went well, heres to many more  don't worry about maybe skipping a dose, i've missed a fair few, and hasn't had much effect on me. although i have now taken allans advice and am managing to have breakfast in the morning, so by the time i get to 10:30 my tummys ready for the little blue pill haha.

was round my mum's yesterday (where i have ended up on the slippery slope the past 2 times i've quit) and could even stand in the kitchen making a cuppa while others smoked and wasn't even slightly bothered, i did get a passing thought like "oooh i could have just a draw" but then i thought, what would be the point? it gives me no satisfaction and would feel so guilty afterwards. it passed within a few seconds though.

have been sighing a lot these past few days, suddenly have this extra lung space and forget to use it sometimes, hahaha. has anyone else noticed this?

    Hi

Just popping in to say I did resist!! I got stuck into the housework and it did pass :D I then had a glass of wine after dinner as a little reward for resisiting! :rotfl:

I too have gained weight (a stone for me) choille but I just think "well Id rather have put on weight than to be smoking again" My boyfriend says ive got an impressive beer belly now! :rotfl: although it isn't beer, its wine and chocolate.

Doe anyone else get the feeling that even after they have eaten then could still eat it another 3 times over??? I could never finish a chinese meal while I smoked but now im scrapping up every bit of rice :(

Well done to everyone who has stopped. xx

    Hi everyone,

Like quite a few of us, I put on weight after I quit smoking - around 1.5 stones . I used to get through the meal as fast as possible so I could go and light up. Realise I coudn't really taste my food anyway, since I'd lost most of my sense of taste through being a smoker :o Since quitting of course my taste buds are blooming again, so part of eating too much is down to enjoying my food! Couple of other things - I believe smoking i.e. nicotine, speeds up the metabolism so we burn off the calories a bit quicker. Also, the ciggy marked the end of the meal - no ciggy, no need to stop eating :D
So, am trying to increase exercise (not difficult now I can breathe easier) and try to eat more healthy food. I've been on Weight Watchers for just over 3 weeks now and I've lost just over 6lbs so am well pleased :j

Well done to everyone, specially the newer folk - it's just the greatest feeling being free from smoking!

Hi all, glad to see your all doing well.

I have now adjusted nicely to Champix, seems to take 2 days to settle after I have increased each dose and can't believe how amazing I feel today. I actually feel better than I did before taking Champix, maybe it's putting me into a deeper sleep or something although I have woken up 2 or 3 times at night but soon get back to sleep. Had some very funny and realistic dreams, the one about me having a baby has made me start thinking about wanting another baby even though I have a teenager already and have never felt ready for another. Think I need to start dating again hahaha

I went to Smokefree session Saturday and I told the advisor the rough time I had with Zyban, he said it's a dirty drug and they don't get doctors to prescribe it anymore in my area.

Itselliebell, glad your coping well, I was getting fed up of having a cig that gave me no enjoyment and I like the way it controls the cravings. i was a little worried about going on to the Blue pill last week and I did feel a little disconnected but now I am back to normal, was soooo worth it, I just hope it continues like this.

Fugalpam, well done on the 6lb lost, thats fantastic, I'll be following in your footsteps soon. I ate like mad Sat but have calmed down today.
