Morning Splishsplash - I believe I did forget you so sorry.

Well done on your amazing achievement. You will have the best Christmas break ever, not wanting to get away to have a puff!

I can remember being at my families houses, they are all non- smokers and I was a secret smoker. I would be sitting there looking at them, all so relaxed, and all I could really think about was getting home to my beloved roll ups! How sad, but how wonderful I no longer feel that way. :)

    How did it go Missi?

    Easier than you thought?

Hi Dazco, much easier than I thought thanks, the good thing is that I know if I have a cig, it will do nothing for me, no hit and no enjoyment from them so now I need to break the habit, things can only get better!!

Only hiccup was that I took my letter from NHS stop smoking in to the docs Monday to request next prescription and was told to come back Friday, when I phoned yest to check if it was was ready they said the prescription had'nt been generated and will be ready Tues which is when I run out so am hoping there won't be any gap.

I went to the Stop Smoking people today and they said they'll give me another letter next weekend for the next lot so that there won't be any probs and also, the next letter will give me 5 weeks worth instead of 2.

Thanks everyone for your support and hope your all doing well.

Wow - I'm not the only one

I've been smoking for nearly 30 years (and I'm only 39) - gave up 8 weeks ago today using the Bernard Matthews method (cold turkey) - best thing I've ever done.

I've had a quick scan through the posts on here (too many to read each and every one) - is anyone else CT or are you all using NRT. Hopefully I'll soon get to know you all - it looks like there's a wide range of fellow quitters on here and if I can be of any help - just ask (I've quit successfully several times in the past and relapsed for stupid reasons....this time it's for real and there really is no going back). I've been through all of the hiccups and relapses known to mankind, for some reason this time just feels "right".

BTW - on here because the forum I was using (Click2Quit) is over zealous on moderation (i.e. if you're not using their product - you'll have your posts moderated - if you mention Champix...you're as good as bannned, which isn't overly helpful when quitting).

    Anyway - to introduce myself

I'm Wayne. I've smoked since I was 12 years old (started off on JPS and moved onto rollups and cigars). I don't follow the normal advice of planning the quit etc...I just go for it (my longest quit to date being 8 months and it's only because I got drunk and accepted a cigar at the boss's birthday party a couple of years ago that I'm quitting again now).

This time around - did a couple of days with patches, and then noticed that the patch had fallen off. I hadn't noticed all day and didn't feel any the worse for wear. So....carried on without a patch since then. The reason for quitting...after 30 odd years I'm actually bored with standing in the wind and the rain inhaling God knows what and slowly killing myself off....and for no reason other than to feed an addiction which after three days is dead in the water anyway (after 72 hours - nicotine has left your body).

Like I say - now completed 8 weeks , no problems at all. I'm not using any secret methods, no NRT, no hypnotism/accupuncture...I've just stopped (and I can't believe it either).

Well done to everyone else quitting - it's well and truly worth it. Apart from the money side of things (I've saved nearly £300 so far) - isn't it fantastic to be able to go up the stairs without being out of breath? This oxygen stuff is fantastic!

As far as I can see, the only downside to not smoking is gaining a stone in weight (that can wait until Jan 1 2011 to deal with).

    Stay quitted people

A very warm welcome Wayne! So good to hear you think that this time is "the time" for you. Beware of the demon drink, or maybe it should say, it's affects! ;) I went for the CT method and have been completely free for 11 years and 9 + months. So if I can do it, believe me, you can! What a shame about the other forum, I'd have thought it was more important to give help in any way possible. Stick with us Wayne and lets see if we can help you to the goal you're looking for. For now though, it IS possible to get free from excess weight as well as quitting. Even if you're snacking more to compensate, why not do more excercise to help, you'd be amazed at how that also helps with any 'moments' you have as it's great in releasing the endorphins for a feel good factor. Give it a go!

Lovely to see you back with us Larmy and Pam! Though we all get busy times, it's natural - it's life! I've only been flitting on and off quickly this week as hubby and I have been helping our lad and his wife with shed demolition/erections etc whilst they've been on holiday. I'm back now too, and it's soooooo good to see everyone sounding so positive!

Very well done indeed Missi1, Allen, Itsellie, splishsplash, DD and of course, our Daz! :T:T:T:T:T:T You really do all sound so wonderfully positive, it's a real joy to read the posts (albeit briefly) and get a real glow at all the determination and vibes that are here.

Good also to see folk remembering to use the title bars to say how long they've been smoke-free and the means they've quit with. :D

Missi1, try not to panic over the delay with the Champix as I'd suspect you're quite 'full' of it and it'll 'stand by you ok' even without taking any for a short time. Relax and stay as positive as you have been lately. You're doing so very, very well. :)

Enjoy the rest of the weekend folks and enjoy all that FRESH air that poor Feliclty K obviously isn't getting at present. :( If she's right and is not a habitual puffer then it's possibly the pressure that's getting to her. ...............whereas you all aren't giving in to any!!!! ;)

It is kind of ludicrous that you can create a huge story in the media because you have a fag though!

Welcome Wayne. Good luck on getting that stone off too, something I am struggling with permanantly!

I too have put on nearly a stone in weight. I have never been this heavy before - am quite shocked but am now taking sweetners in my coffee & really trying to lay off the puddings.

A 'friend' sent me a link to a site that sells tabacco free tobacco. I told her I wasn'r interested in smoking - she wondered if I missed the fun of actually smoking & felt she was doing me a favour. I said i thought that would be a slippery route & not one I wasn't prepared to take.
I do wonder if people do try & trip you up? Or am I being cynical?
After not smoking for 7 months I don't want to start again - ever. But I do feel that I have to be ever vigilent if you know what I mean.

    Well done everyone.

I'll bet it's the sort of publicity she could well have done without though Larmy! I was even more surprised to see that Vincent Simone smokes too, yet him being a pro dancer too??! Pressure again, I wonder.

I'm just so thrilled it's not me! You lot either - not now!!! :D :j

Oh choille, doesn't it make you wonder exactly who your friends really are at such times. I'd be more than a tad suss about anyone flogging tobacco-less fags for starters, but to even think that someone could possibly be drawn into giving it a go - after having quit for X amount of time - doesn't bear thinking about. It makes you wonder (if she is a smoker herself) is she wanting desperately to do what you've done.......but can't and, in a sense, begrudges you your success. Maybe nowt like that at all, but as a non-smoker, you really can't help but be suspicious of the motives of folk.

You really do right in always staying on your guard. In a sense, I'm sure it's an invisible shield we put up to keep ourselves free from ever going back to all that misery.

Congratulations choille, you've done amazingly! :T Now, to handle to weight. You gave up the fags, you CAN beat the weight too. Running up and down those beautiful Scottish mountains.....before brekkie any help???! ;)

Thanks Sue - She lives a long way off & I haven't seen her for ages & I do wonder if she is back on the ciggies & is trying to get me to start so she doesn't feel so bad.......who knows.

I was never one of those smokers that could just smoke at weekends or only have a few ciggies a day - so I know I can't just have the odd one. I think that some people get complacent. I don't think I will ever be able to.

I am quite active just because of the animals - so it is just me being a bunter & scoffing all the cakes.
I must admit I have usually got a piece of chewing gum in my mouth - menthol airways & I seem to have used that a lot. An ex-smoker friend did tell me that they chewed away for a year all the time - so I'm not actually worried about that. Even passing smokers outside shops when we go into town doesn't bother me.
I really don't know how on earth I afforded to smoke.
I've bought a couple of hunderd pounds worth of premium bonds. I've saved more money than that by not smoking but I haven't put it away - I probably spent it all on cakes! Only joking.
I bought a set of scales - have never had a set before & am now going to try & watch my weight without becoming obsesional - just small steps each week.

    Hi everyone
Wow - so many success stories on here - it really is great reading just how well people are doing :j I remember feeling so proud when I'd gone a week, then a month - when it got to a few months it all felt so real. And it really does happen - when we first quit, the thought of being weeks or months down the line and still quit seems like an impossible dream - but it does happen. One day at a time - and each day we get stronger, learning how to deal with life without flying to the packet of ciggies!

    Have a great week everyone!

    Pam x
