  • i've not set a quit day yet, as i want to see how i feel after 4 or 5 days on them, i hope to be feeling like i can definitely do it on day 8 (weds) but if i'm waivering, even slightly, i will leave it til day 11 (sat after wedding) as i know if i go off them for 2 and a bit days, then smoke again it will be a slippery slope, and feel like it'd be better if i could be sure that was it.

the nurse said that zyban could cause suicidal thoughts, and they don't prescribe it at all in n.i. anymore because of one unproven case. said that with the champix it'll most likely be headaches, nausea, and the dreams, so here's hoping! i think i'll be able to cope with that as i suffer awful with heartburn most of the time, so tummy is never quite right anyway.

can't wait for this wedding do now, haha, it's the first time i've been out with my workmates (shameful as i've been here over 2 years) so that's why i was really worried about getting nasty or aggressive.

thanks for the replies, i've been reading on another forum about one mans experience, a bit of light relief and i'm feeling positive! i'm not sure about alcohol content to be honest. i normally drink whisky or rum + coke. don't like beer or wine, and can't drink alcopops as i swear they send me hyper and my legs always hurt the next day, must run marathons in my sleep, haha!

did you experience any of the side effects on champix dazco? i've taken my day two tablet now, and when i was out at lunchtime i just felt like i couldn't really be bothered to finish my smoke, but that could be because my mindset is totally focused, i will quit smoking this time! have tried inhalator and gum before and failed miserably, always around week 5. plus OH has been off them over a year and a half now, and he'd been smoking 18 years, compared to my measly 4! haha (was 22, smoked since 18, oh 29 at time, smoked since 11!!
OH smoked since he was 11:eek::eek::eek::eek:
    Is he a scouser? :rotfl:

    The only side effects I had was;
Once I had my morning tablet and felt nauseous, I had not eaten for a while so had some McD brekkie and it sorted it out straight away.

I had very vivid, colourful, sometimes violent dreams. A lot of people complain about them but I bloody loved them. :D

Sometimes I would take a tablet and it would completely zonk me for 10 minutes. There was no drowsiness with the tablets, just very occasionally I HAD to get my head down for a little while after taking a tablet.

    Hi Itselliebelle

Have a great time at the wedding!

I was put on Zyban by my doc and I quit a couple of days in. I do think there is a lot in what Daz says - I could barely wait to get started. Sadly I fell in to the trap some months later so it is mainly psychological, for me anyway.

I could have gone back for Champix but I was a bit embarrassed and just thought, the hell with this, let's really do it this time. After a few patches (very vivid dreams on them!) I found posting on this thread to be the thing that kept me focussed in those early days, though there was some anger and tears.

When I was on holiday I was studying the smokers (and there were not that many!) and I was just so glad that I don't have to do that anymore.

They are not really enjoying it, they just have to do it to top their nicotine levels up. It is such a monster to have in your psyche and body. Good luck to you. :)

  • Hi everyone

I have read these forums for years and have saved loads of money and I mean loads!! The one thing I havent managed to save money on is smoking :-(

I started again 12 - 14 weeks ago after 4 months free. It was brilliant, I loved it, the first month I stopped I spent the money on a real wood handmade playframe for the back garden so I could see my kids enjoyment from me not smoking. The next month I bought 2 pallets of rubber bark for the playarea and the month after my bf bought me a pink laptop!!!!

Then I got a call to say my job was under threat (I was on mat leave), subsequently lost my job 8 wks later and now 8 weeks on I have set up my own business and have got a little part time job on the horizon too and Im ready to stop again.

I blamed the stress of losing my job for starting but its a poor excuse.

Anyway, Im quitting tomorrow, have some patches from what I used before. Im ready mentally but need people to talk too. Me and the fella need a good chat tomorrow about an overhaul of our budget and I thought it was two faced to be smoking and cutting back, so here I am!

    Am I welcome??!!!!

  • Thanks for the lovely welcome Dundeedoll!!

I really hope so, im a bit worried though that working from home all day means more opportunity for boredom and slip ups etc. As my days not in a routine as such as work comes in in dribs and drabs that I have got into a habit of having a fag everytime im bored. My partner is away in the forces as well so i tend to get very bored at night when the kids are asleep (hence why im stopping tomorrow as he has a weekends leave!!)

Congratulations on your nearly 8 weeks free, not far off 2 months now!!

(Am i sposed to put my nicotine free time at the top of my posts?)

    Thank you.
I know what you mean about the bored/on your own bit. My son goes off to his dad's every 2nd weekend and those weekends were my smoking weekends. The cigs were my company. (I was a secret smoker - have a look back at my posts by clicking on my username and then find more posts - I recently posted about it.)

Funnily enough I finished work early today so was home an hour before DS due home from school and would have been quite excited before as I would've been able to have at least 2 cigs before he got back. I really really didn't want 1.........wasn't craving AT ALL but it still crossed my mind.
It is a habit that you need to stop, not just the addiction to nicotine. For that reason I also gave up tea/coffee as my association with them and cigs was too strong - it was my habit: cuppa = ciggie!

Try to find other things to do when you get a craving. You know they may start off strong, but VERY soon only last a few seconds (your brain remembering the habit)

Keep checking in here.................I won't wish you 'Good Luck'
as that's not how it works, is it :D but will be thinking of you.

Please folks, have a look at this: Could you all kindly pop the time you've stopped smoking for and the means of stopping on the Title bars of each new (daily) post, please?! Eg: 2 months, four days, Champix

It honestly does help others and is helpful to you also! The thing that helps folk so much is seeing how long others have lasted as it spurs them on in letting them know it's doable. It also lets them see who's using what to quit with and lets them know more about the options and feedback from each.

Sue x Wishing you well all the time. :):A

You got that bit right straight from the start then Di, well done! :D Every time (once per day if you come on more than once in a day) you come on to chat, if you could kindly pop the amount of time quit for and the means of quitting on the Title Bar then I'll be very happy! ;) Seriously, it really does help everyone to see how far everyone else's come. It's also good to know who's using what means and how they're coping with it; that's also good for those viewing and thinking about what's best for them. Thanks Di, glad you got the picture, I think DD's just about getting the hang of it!!! :(:p

Now, we'll start at the beginning:

A very warm welcome to the thread Di, it's always good to welcome folk to the start of a better life, a healthier life too for sure. It seems to me as though you focused too much on all that you saved before, and although it is a great inventive...it doesn't always help further down the line if and when we become better off financially and - can afford to smoke! It also seems as though you got a real buzz from watching the kiddies as they benefitted from all that you'd saved with toys etc. This time why not turn that around and put the focus purely on "Mum's health"; to your little ones that is THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IN THEIR LIVES!! Dad's too of course.

You want to be here throughout their lives, that's what you aim for now and it's a great thing to help pull you through quitting for good. I see your point about working from home and boring evenings, so put it to good use and try getting fitter (if it's possible) with DVD's or getting outdoor exercise in the day time when they're at school. Or take up an old hobby, something you truly love putting your time into, or take up a new one. Think about it, learning a new language, sewing, knitting (making a come back now) or anything at all that takes your concentration.

I know a lot of the PM I've sent you won't be much help as you've been through it all before, but who knows! Worth going through. Keep talking to us day or night as there's a lot of help here and although it's about a serious subject, we treat things with humour too, we need to. We're with you all the way Di, please don't forget that. Have a wonderful weekend with your OH and the kiddies, enjoy them all, just as they do you. ;) All the very, very best Di.

Good to see you DD, good to see you're remembering things too! ;)

Good thinking Itselliebelle, I think you're going about it all the right way. All the best and have a great time at the wedding. :)

Lots of fantastic advice to Itselliebelle above, who could possibly ask for more. Have a great day tomorrow folks, another day off of the journey...onto better health for you ALL.

    Hi Diane

You did really well to last 4 months so just forget about the blip in between and continue where you left off. As you say, you felt brilliant and shortly you will be feeling the same way again.

DD is right in that the cravings become so minimal and can just be brushed away without attaching any importance to them. I still get little "fleeters" but the thought of the bondage and the truth about smoking is uppermost in my mind and I think that is really the key to looking it in the face and not falling for its blatant lies about how you will feel better if you just have one, it's the only vice you have, you could get run over by a bus tomorrow and worst of all why should you deny yourself the pleasure of smoking!

I will wish you good luck but really it's good relaxation you need. Whatever, I wish you the best of everything and you know what, you deserve it, as do your precious little ones and your partner.

    Keep posting! :)
