  • have tried searching here, but was just wondering what anyones experience of drinking while on champix was?

i've only started yesterday, but am due to go to a wedding party next fri (which will be day 10) and the nurse gave me a little story about people reacting badly, and getting in fights and then not remembering. i'm not a big binge drinker, 6 shorts in an evening (probably sounds a lot haha) no shots or anything. just not sure if i should have 1 or 2, or just avoid totally, or if i'll actually be fine. i'm not prone to being nasty or aggressive when i'm drinking, if anything i'm overly friendly and can make a new best friend every 5 minutes!

Personally I would avoid the alcohol at this stage but then again I quit drinking years ago and really enjoy being tee total.

Maybe you can get someone to keep an eye on you so you don't follow the puffers outside in a weak moment!;)

I have been away so will post later and catch up on all you clever quitters out there. :)

  • technically i am still "allowed" to smoke at that stage, as you're supposed to quit day 8-14, but i'm hoping once they start to take effect i won't even really want one. i'm mostly just worried about perhaps acting out of sorts. especially as it is a workmates wedding!

I drank loads on the Champix, I did not notice any difference.

Please do not wait for them to take effect because they don't actually do that. You will still want/desire a cigarette but you have to use willpower too.
During my first week of Champix I went from 50 a day to 20 a day, I ran a little over the week I was supposed to be allowed to smoke :o and then went from 20 a day to none a day.

But I had to do it, not Champix. I am sure Champix made it easier, even if they tell me in five years that Champix was a placebo, it made it easier. But it is like saying shoes make walking outside easier, they do, but you still have to do all the hard work.

Best of luck and enjoy the wedding.:beer::beer:

Hi itselliebell and welcome to the thread.

I think my advice would be the same as larmy's and that you should...proceed with caution. Can you change your drinks to any with 'less' alcohol in? Whatever you do, try to drink less on the night. To be sure about the drinking, why not google "alcohol and Champix" to see what others think about it all on different forums.

    Just take care!

    Sue x

{Edit} Oh, well done Daz, I was willing you to come on and advise and now you have done I can relax in knowing she has the best advice! :T He should know itselliebell, he's 3 months free from fags.

  • thanks for the replies, i've been reading on another forum about one mans experience, a bit of light relief and i'm feeling positive! i'm not sure about alcohol content to be honest. i normally drink whisky or rum + coke. don't like beer or wine, and can't drink alcopops as i swear they send me hyper and my legs always hurt the next day, must run marathons in my sleep, haha!

did you experience any of the side effects on champix dazco? i've taken my day two tablet now, and when i was out at lunchtime i just felt like i couldn't really be bothered to finish my smoke, but that could be because my mindset is totally focused, i will quit smoking this time! have tried inhalator and gum before and failed miserably, always around week 5. plus OH has been off them over a year and a half now, and he'd been smoking 18 years, compared to my measly 4! haha (was 22, smoked since 18, oh 29 at time, smoked since 11!!

    1 week , 2 days - champix
have tried searching here, but was just wondering what anyones experience of drinking while on champix was?

i've only started yesterday, but am due to go to a wedding party next fri (which will be day 10) and the nurse gave me a little story about people reacting badly, and getting in fights and then not remembering. i'm not a big binge drinker, 6 shorts in an evening (probably sounds a lot haha) no shots or anything. just not sure if i should have 1 or 2, or just avoid totally, or if i'll actually be fine. i'm not prone to being nasty or aggressive when i'm drinking, if anything i'm overly friendly and can make a new best friend every 5 minutes!

ive not heard anything about stopping drinking alcohol whilst on champix either. it has not affected me.
dont worry about what the nurse says, they all mention a worst case scenario - i was told someone committed suicide on it !!!
i am sure you will be fine, and are worrying for nothing. 6 shorts is nothing spread over a night.
what day have you set a quit date for?
im finding it fairly easy to be honest with the champix, the odd craving but i just brush it aside.

anyway i really hope you quit, keep determined too !!!

p.s the only side effect i had was on day 1, i felt a little bit sick, but i was working nights so i could have been tired. i also found myself smoking less after 3 or 4 days. also i get vivid dreams sometimes, not every night - but i like them lol.
