    Afternoon all

Well done to all - Missi, Allan, NIIreland guy, catherine - everyone in fact :j
Did laugh when I read about those dreams daz and allan :D On one quit, I used 24 hour patches - had really vivid dreams when I used them - mostly funny ones, apart from the one where I was snogging my boss and I don't even remotely fancy him
Hope everyone's had a good weekend,

Hi missi1, sorry I had to cut and run this afternoon but had to go out baby-sitting for DD and hubby. Bad luck with the smokes, but I'm thrilled to bits they had a horrible affect. :) Treat it as a blip and move on to being fag free again. Sorry to hear of your problems, but it sounds as though you're sorting it all out very logically and I wouldn't be at all surprised that you're quite right in your thinking.

Well done on the 5 on the CH test, a darn sight better than 17 and just look out for next time when it's lower still.! I hope the sleeping sorts itself our very soon. For now, take it all a day at a time and be thrilled with every tiny bit of success. What you're doing as remarkable and you should be praising yourself with every ciggy not smoked. Stay firm missi1, you'll be delighted further down the track, not to mention when you arrive at your destination...a station with the sign "QUITTERS"!!! ;)

You CAN do this, little by little. Do like Daz and Alan and save what you would have spent on cigs. You could even join me on the "Sealed Pot Challenge" if you wish. :) Be proud missi1.

Oh heck, Alan & Daz, remind me never to come across you two on a

Thanks so much Sue. Im back on track now, ready to battle any cravings but will take each day as it comes, no point me thinking ahead too far like you say.
I have my cash not ash jar but would love to join the sealed pot challenge, I shall get the sellotape out and see what I can save until Dec. :j x Missi1

    Hi everyone:j
GLad to hear you're doing well, Allan and missi1- keep on keeping on!
I'm now tackling the dieting - started back on Weightwatchers about a week ago, and have lost 3lbs in my first week :T So, no more :EasterBun (or not as much) and am hoping to get back to my pre-quit weight in about 6 months time.

  • Hi all,
Wow, it's great to see so many people doing so well! Catherine, missi1, allan673, nireland guy - hats off to you all! dundeedoll, you're two weeks ahead of me, I'm so glad you weren't tempted after dropping off your son!

I stopped taking champix about 10 days ago, so I'm on my own since then. I've had no cravings to smoke, but I'm aware that I'm eating like a horse, so like you, frugalpam, I'm tackling that now.

Sorry to see today was a sad day for you dazco, I hope it wasn't too hard.

I will check in again soon, I hope everyone is enjoying life smoke-free.

  • Catherine, Missi, Allan, NI guy, Splishsplash - Well Done to you all! :T:T (Well done on sticking with it Missi....Keep strong!)

Also to you Pam for deciding to tackle the weight you'd like to lose.

I'm not really into chocolate/cake/crisps etc much so that helps or otherwise I'm sure I'd be munching LOADS!
Have also given up bread (my weakness and trigger food) so whereas I would normally have gorged on toast/sarnies I now cut up loads of apples/pears/cucumber/carrots to nibble on during the evening if I'm having 'those' cravings.

I also have cut out tea/coffee because I associated them with smoking too much + I think it's probably better for me to cut out caffeine. I drink about 2 1/2 litres of herbal tea + warm water.

Yes, I was too!! I started a cold last Friday (10th Sep) and have felt AWFUL.........don't think I actually could have smoked 1 anyway :) Still feeling bad so off to bed early again.

Do you mind me asking how many you smoked a day/week?
I saw the amount for just over a month and was astonished!
    (Is that euros or pounds?)
    I was on about 10 or less a day - bought 3x 20 a week, so just over £60.00 a month

  • Hi Everyone

I had no intention of quitting until I was looking for tobacco, 03 march 2010, was passing a health shop & bought what can only be described as herbal tobacco at about £5 a pouch (honeywell). Smoked these as if I was smoking a normal cigarette, then noticed after a couple of weeks that I was only smoking 6 a day. Now 10 days off the Herbals, but still have them in the house, just in case. No side effects except the extra food. Would definately recomend them.

    Welcome!

    10 days..........that's :j
Now you've probably got over the very worst it should get easier and easier.

I think it has more to do with habit than physical craving sometimes.

I didn't actually conciously think about giving up on the day I did.........just ran out and didn't have a desire to get any more. Haven't really had any cravings.......a couple of secs worth maybe at first, but they soon go. I found good ol' deep breathing very helpful!
Keep coming back on here, it really is great for support.

    Now 10 days off...........................

In case you've not seen this:

In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal. In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal. In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level. In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase. In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks. In three to nine months coughs, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%. For people who have not yet contracted emphysema, they can usually throw off most of the effects of smoking within 6mo's to 2 years. In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half. In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker. In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker. In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
