Hiya Sue  Glad you're ok now, we were a bit worried when you went AWOL! I've sorted out my PM's now - had ticked the wrong box, no wonder no-one could PM me :rotfl:
Hope everyone's doing ok - gone a bit quiet in here the last few days. Let's hear how things are going,

Hi everyone and thanks for all your replys! 5 days so far, cant quite believe it!
Well I have woke up today feeling awful, think I am coming down with the flu. But on the plus side Im so glad iv quit smoking as I know I would prob feel a million times worse!
Over the last few days I have swung between feeling completely elated and glad that I have quit and then the next minute the craving is so strong that Im wondering why I even quit!
But these feelings have died down over the last 2 days so Im feeling much better.
Well done to everyone who has quit! :jStopped smoking 15th Nov 2010

In 20 minutes your blood pressure will drop back down to normal. In 8 hours the carbon monoxide (a toxic gas) levels in your blood stream will drop by half, and oxygen levels will return to normal. In 48 hours your chance of having a heart attack will have decreased. All nicotine will have left your body. Your sense of taste and smell will return to a normal level. In 72 hours your bronchial tubes will relax, and your energy levels will increase. In 2 weeks your circulation will increase, and it will continue to improve for the next 10 weeks. In three to nine months coughs, wheezing and breathing problems will dissipate as your lung capacity improves by 10%. For people who have not yet contracted emphysema, they can usually throw off most of the effects of smoking within 6mo's to 2 years. In 1 year your risk of having a heart attack will have dropped by half. In 5 years your risk of having a stroke returns to that of a non-smoker. In 10 years your risk of lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker. In 15 years your risk of heart attack will have returned to that of a non-smoker.
.... next stop 5 years;)0 -
Hi all.
I'm on the first day of my quit. Have had many failed attempts, but the time feels right to give it another go.
Came on the board to pass some time, and lo and behold I found this thread! Reading your info and stories has been very useful.
So, here's my public declaration of intent... I will not smoke again!
Good luck to you all.0 -
Hi Pam and thanks so much for your sweet words, much appreciated. There are often times when it goes quiet here, I tell myself it's due to folk getting more used to being free and not needing to be here so much! Was I ever wrong??!
Catherine, you're doing fantastically and, if all's well, it should hopefully now be 6 days right? I can understand your feelings of near disbelief, I used to have them so often. Hold on tight and keep strong Catherine, you're doing just GREAT!!!! :j :T:T:T :jKeep at it and start wondering what the bloody hell you was doing, buying sticks of death and putting them in your body :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

champix - day 3 without cigarettes.
firstly can i say i am so glad i found this link, a big boost.
well i started on champix 2 weeks ago, and i had my last cigarette 3 days ago.
i had tried patches previously but i only stayed off cigarettes for 3 weeks, more a lack of will power on my part i guess.
however i am more determined than ever to stop this time, so i opted for champix after hearing positive results. i went to my local nhs smokefree centre, they told me about products but i opted/wanted champix. they gave me a letter/order to give to my gp for a prescription.
my first 0.5mg tablet made me feel a bit light headed to be honest on day 1, but that is the only ever negative feeling. i do get regular vivid dreams but to be honest i quite like them lol. you remember everything about the dreams.
i have still had cravings over the last 3 days, but nothing too bad - again will power is needed, i dont want to smoke again 100% ! and i am confident that i will not. i feel its more habit than cravings!
i aim to save the money i spent on cigarettes, how did you save it? did you put it away each week etc? any tips here for saving? i was spending £6+ per day. id buy a pack of cigarettes, a can of pop and a paper everyday on the way to work. i havent done this for 3 days. i know its only 3 days but i am already £20 better off, i havent been to the cash machine lol which feels weird.
i will let you all know how i get on and keep looking here from now on for support.
thanks.
p.s for those here who used champix how long did you take them for? the guy at nhs smokefree says i must complete a 12 week course. is this true as i have heard people saying they only took them for a few weeks etc.0 -
Hi everyone - just a quick hello to all as I've got a date with Tesco
Welcome to the thread allan and deccie - you'll find this a really positive and supportive place :j As an ex-serial quitter, I've been there and got the t shirt - this time round it's been very different and I've found the commitment and determination which wasn't there before. It's something that hits most of us at some point, when we just feel enough is enough. In my case, coping with bronchitis the other winter and trying to smoke did it for me .
Well done to I-wanna-retire and in fact to everyone who's succeeding each day in kicking those nasty, noxious ciggies into touch - we should all be very proud, whether it's a few days or a few years quit :T Keep posting - it helps reaffirm our commitment and really helps everyone else.
Glad you're back Sue :j
