Morning all,
I'm just over the 4 weeks mark now. I stopped taking the tablets last week, I kept forgetting them. I think they worked a treat to wean me off nicotine, so here's hoping I won't need them from now on.
Congratulations on a great start, missi1 - you sound really motivated and positive!
Tippytoes, wow, at least you won't be tempted to lapse again, I guess! You're doing so well - 9 months:T. That's amazing.
I hope everyone else is doing well and enjoying life smoke-free.Cigarettes not smoked: 842; money saved: €364.51I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I stopped smoking in 2007 and used Allen Carrs book to do it. I also used the Silkquit program to motivate me but haven't looked at it for a long time. I ran it again yesterday to see how well I had done and I was amazed at the results!
I have saved over £6000 since I stopped and that is fabulous but what took my breath away was the fact I HAVEN'T smoked 53,000 cigarettes, amazing.
Good luck to all those trying to quit :jStopped smoking Jan 2007 after 23 years!Cigarettes NOT smoked = 240,945Smoke free days = 11 Years :TCash saved so far = £125,45,110 -
Well Im nearly into day 3. It hasnt been too bad but one minute im feeling great the next the craving has come from nowhere and hits me and I think il just have one but i know where that will lead to. So for now im just taking it one day at a time, going good so far.
I just have a question for all those who have quit smoking, well done by the way! I just wondered does the craving ever completely go away? Iv heard people saying "once a smoker, always a smoker" do you believe this?
I have quit for a year before but I stil had times when I would have loved a smoke. I just wondered does that feeling ever completely go?
Thanks for all your posts and words of encouragement!xxStopped smoking 15th Nov 2010

Hi Catherine, I think we have quit at almost the same time and am glad to hear your doing well.
I think when people say once a smoker always a smoker, it depends on how determined someone is to give up in the first place.
I gave up for 18 mths a few years ago but was for the benefit of someone else and felt quite pressured to give up, so of course when we split up I went straight back on them, and going out partying with smokers probably didnt help looking back. This time it's for me.
I think the cravings will go away but from what I have read on the internet and on here, some people get an urge for a cig out of the blue but are able to control it which is a lot different than having an urge and actually going to buy some cigs. I know that even though I have been quit 2 days now, I think because I have got past the hardest part, I would'nt give in like I might have done last week or the one before.
Also, when you have actually given up, I think your mind is constantly thinking of all the reasons to why you have given up rather than thinking about which cigarette we'll miss the most.0 -

I had DREADFUL cravings to begin with. I NEVER thought I'd be able to quit - I'd smoked for a long, long time. I believe you have to have a reason to give up. In my case, I'm skint and have no money for fags. In that respect, it's a no brainer. I've said it before, if I can do it anyone can do it - I'm no saint - I just had a very good reason for having to give up.0 -

Unless you was on rollies, those figures are way out .
With regards the recent quitters asking if the craving stops.
Does it matter?
You have decided to quit. It is not easy nor is it difficult. If you are going to torture yourself that you are being denied a piece of nicotine magic then I doubt you will quit.
You need to look this beastie in the eye and laugh, lovely smelling laughs, right in his dirty ugly face.
You have given up!!! You may get tempted but as long as you remind yourself that you do not smoke then you will not light up. Will you?
If someone offered you a toot of a crack pipe would you have it? No, because you are not a crack head.
If someone offered you some heroin would you shoot up? No, because you are not a junkie.
If someone offers you a fag, do you take it? No, because you do not smoke. :T:T:T:T:T:T:T:T.
It can be a nice little feeling for a small moment, but we are assured heroin and crack are too. But we do not take them because we know how stupid it isS!!!!horpe0 -
Well done Catherine, missi, splishsplash and everyone just starting out :j
Do the cravings ever go away? Occasionally, a whiff of a someone's ciggy will smell quite nice, but at this point it doesn't tempt me to go out and buy some - at some point, it no longer turns into a craving to smoke. At the back of my mind, I remember how much I've achieved by quitting, and how fantastic it is to no longer be a slave to nicotine. I've honestly no desire to give that up!

Just had a looksy on here and saw your post Pam so thought I'd say :hello:
Still going well for me. Started the very fashionable cold on Friday and think if I was still smoking I'd be feeling a lot worse. (Chest/catarh wise I mean)
When I finished my dinner tonight I really had a craving for something..........wasn't craving a cigarette but that kind of 'finishing off' a ciggie gives you after a meal I think. I just had another vit c tablet and another big mug of melissa tea.
A big bar of Lidl nutty chocolate would have sorted that craving out much better
Keep going everyone.............Good post dazco!Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

It's good to see you all again! Sorry I've not been on for quite a few days (I think), but I've not been so well.
Thanks so very much to Pam and to larmy for keeping up the good words of advice, you're angels! :A BTW Pam, so sorry you couldn't get in touch. I was horrified to see I'd had soo many PMs as that. I tried to get back to you after freeing it all earlier, but it says you're not receiving PMs, is that right?
Thanks to you too Daz as that post above is a cracker and really says why we should never give smoking another thought - ever!:A
Well done DD, sticking hard as ever I see and I couldn't be more happy for you or proud of you. Stay firm and advising, you're doing well!!Catherine25 wrote:I just wondered does the craving ever completely go away? Iv heard people saying "once a smoker, always a smoker" do you believe this?
To answer you question Catherine and how it is for me personally:
After a while it lessens a lot, then you get times when you feel as though you could do with one, then, almost in a flash...it's GONE! You almost forgot it happened. Then you reach a dtage of having a feeling of "what is it I want or have forgotten" and it's just the vague memory of having been associated with it and it creeps up on you for a vague flash, nothing more, I promise! Now after 11 years and 9 months I can honestly say that the only feelings I ever get are of immense joy at having quit and STAYED quit! You may be one of those who is even less bothered by it, but if you're anything like me, it's barely nothing at all and absolutely nothing to NOT give it all up for - I promise you! Go all out for it Catherine and get life back to where it always was before that blasted baccy!!! Just never, ever resist any temptations as you'll always be regretting it. You've too much life to live with concerns over fags and way too much to live with regrets of not quitting! I now live life thrilled to bally bits at having been freed from it all. You CAN do it too!!!Also; I do not think there is any truth at all in that person who said that "once a smoker always a smoker"...I'm NOT a smoker, I gave it up! :jI would say tell him/her to stick that in his/her pipe and......, but that just wouldn't be me now would it! :happylove
Great news for you Ragtimeplayer!! That is terrific! :T
Excellent news splishsplash, you're doing yourself proud!! :T
Oh Tippy, I was so pleased that fag had that affect on you, what a complete and utter turn-off from ever being tempted again! Very well done indeed!! :T
Great news again Choille, you too whathavewedone! You're both doing tremendously well!! :T:T
Keep hard at it at all times missi76 and missi1..take it all day by day and always be so very proud of every moment, hour, day and week that passes by without having a smoke!!Stay strong girls and keep your mind focused on sweet thoughts. Exercise too, it helps so much!
I'm finishing off with these wise words of Daz's
"You need to look this beastie in the eye and laugh, lovely smelling laughs, right in his dirty ugly face."
Keep strong and focused everyone....and very well done indeed!
