Hi Allan, hope all is going well.

I wanted to ask you that when NHS stop smoking gave you your letter to give to your GP, did you have to make an appoint to see Doctor before they prescribed them? Also, do you have have to keep taking the letter to GP every time you need you next lot of Champix?

    Many thanks

    Missi :)

    hi missi1,
when i go for an appointment at nhs smokefree they give me letter requesting champix. (2 weeks supply at a time, mine come in a packet with 14 days supply)
then i just hand it in at the doctors reception, and pick the prescription up the next day.
well thats how mine works anyway.

i have been finding it quite easy to be honest, i am very surprised.
i wouldnt want a cigarette now anyway, i would be so disappointed with myself as i feel ive done really well.

i am sure you will quit with champix, i am positive its worked for me.
i just feel so different than when i tried patches etc. with patches i really craved them, but now i dont.
    keep us informed !!!

Oh, it was delicious Missi, we were having our roast late in the day and it was so worth it. Our son and his wife came over too and it was such a wonderful time after a beautiful day. :)

I know you're determined to quit and I'm delighted that you have Daz and Alan to help you through, others too (itselliebell are you really prepared for her and her dreams!!;)) are either on it or going on it too so it sounds so good for you all.!! :j

Thanks a lot for the information for Missi, Alan and very well done on how you're going so far. Determination is a great ally!

Well folks, the start of another week is just around the corner and brings you all (no matter how far through your journey you are) a wonderful step closer to that goal. :) Live it all day by day, week by week etc. The closer to the journey's end you are the sweeter the scent of the air - and your success!!! :D

  • Sue, Chicago is the windy city... getting it now? haha

I would also like to point out that the dolphin thing was not under the influence of anything, it takes 5 alarms to wake me in the morning. regina spektor, followed by voodoo glow skulls, followed by modest mouse, followed by pendulum, and then topped off with some marina and the diamonds, at 5 minutes intervals, from 6.45 til i trail myself out of bed at 7.30!!

So sorry for your loss Missi, glad my little story could make you laugh though.

Good to see plenty of other champix users on here, oh not being very understanding atm  Was telling him I couldn't shake a wee anxious feeling about work and was wondering if it was anything to do with tablets, as normally I'd get out of work and forget about it. Then said "anyway, let's take about nice things" he then proceeded to go into a rant in the middle of asda about how he always tells me nice things and I don't believe him... yeah, way to deal with the anxiety, let's have a public row. argh, anyway. He swears he's being understanding and has been very good since.

Have gone from smoking 20 a day, to smoking about 10 times, but nicking them halfway through and finishing em next time I think I want one. Although, I think it's more the physical habit of "this is when I have a cigarette" than actually wanting one. Have finished crocheting a hot water bottle cover for Christmas, and have another 6 to go!

Thanks for that info Allan. I took referral letter to docs this morning and receptionist made me an appointment for tomo becuase it says on the letter that Champix is to be prescribed following an assessment (medical history etc) so hopefully I'll have a prescription tomo. Glad your doing well, you should be real proud of yourself.:)
  • :T Allan, Missi , Itselliebell and everyone else!

It's really great to see how hard you are all trying.

Itselliebell - I found 'the habit' worse than the physical craving. A cuppa = ciggie for me so cuppas went with the ciggies.

I still find my brain thinking (but only for a second) about 1 before I go to do something or after I've finished ie: I used to think:
'I'll just have a ciggie and then I'll do the hoovering'
    OR
'I'll just do the hoovering and then I'll have a ciggie'

You know when your 'trigger' times are, I'm sure, so try to change your routine a bit or get busy doing other things - like you are with the crocheting :T

Keep going everyone.............it's sooooo worth it!

Hi itselliebell, I think I get your drift re the Chicago bit..though not sure I'd really want to!! Now to the alarms bit; I thought I was bad enough to get up, but by eck you definitely take the biscuit with all those alarms!!

I really do hope your OH can keep on an even keel of supporting you and praising you as the latter is as important as the former, maybe even more so to help those quitting WANT to please others as well as him/herself. How about keeping the cash saved in view somewhere so that it'll help you both that much more focused, though the most important thing for all of us is our health, the most important of all. :) Keep up the crochet, a good and therapeutic distraction! :)

You're well and truly on the ball DD and know exactly how to guard yourself against the times that are most important. Good for you DD, you're doing marvellously! :T:T
All the best everyone, another day closer and healthier! :T:T:T:T

  • i take it most of you are in england? i'm in northern ireland, and for smoking cessation you just have to go see the practice nurse once, agree on whatever help you need, then she calls once a week until you feel you don't need it anymore. she sorts out repeat subscriptions too, it's so handy!

feeling good today, had a splitting headache last night, but it cleared up with paracetamol and a cuppa tea. have had disturbed sleep, like waking up at a random time, but i drop off again quickly, have also been needing to pee a lot more urgently, like it just creeps up and goes "PEE YOUR PANTS" haha, and the previously mentioned windy pops problem. apart from that, i've not had any of the other side effects yet, and tbh if it carries on like this 12 weeks will be worth it for a lifetime off the smokes!

yeah DD i'm exactly the same as you, i almost used cigs as an incentive to complete household chores, haha. i'd tell myself i'd have one after i hoovered, and then once i hoovered i'd tell myself i could have one after i'd washed the floors and keep going on saying "oh one more thing" until i couldn't wait any longer. i don't associate tea with smokes, so might use some tea replacement therapy whenever i think about smoking! will have to switch to sweeteners though! haha

am sure i'm going to be ready to quit tomorrow, feel like i could maybe stop now, but feel like i'm better having a fresh day to start on or something? maybe that's silly, but makes sense to me!

normally have two cigs on my walk to work, and always arrive in work flustered and sweaty, but this morning, i didn't have my usual *before i walk in the door to work* smoke, and i wasn't flustered or hot at all! can't wait to feel healthier again now

    Hi itselliebell

Yes I'm in England. Im glad that you say your sleeping as there have been a few people reporting insomnia which i was not looking forward to so you have given me hope lol.
I got my Champix 14 day initiation pack tonight so will start tomorrow. Little nervous after having had a bad time with Zyban a few years ago but hoping this will be better.
Your lucky with having yours on repeat. looks like I'll have to carry on going to smoking sessions weekly and pick up a letter to take to doctors unless they say otherwise as Doctor was'nt sure but told me to call them and find out.
I think the reason for this is because the doctors I go to does'nt have a smoking cessation clinic to go to but I dont mind if it helps me give up.:)

    Hope everyone is well!!!
  • Hey guys

Well I thought I'd get back on here sooner! I have one very poorly one year old who will not sleep! Shes just settled now, so I have ten minutes if Im lucky!! My fellas gone back to base so its just me looking after her and my god im sure you can guess what I have been thinking today!!!

Well things are going okay, my fella didnt notice til Friday night that I wasnt smoking and he didnt really comment cos hes saw it all before when i stopped. By Saturday night he was a bit happier though!
I landed a new contract yesterday and my first thought was oooo i can have a glass of wine and a couple of fags when the kids are in bed, but hey ho i didnt (well i did have the wine!!) and I met my new client today & went really well but I havent thought I wanted one today at all cos I have been so geared up for meeting my client!

On the downside its Tuesday night footie and I am trying not to put Sky Sports on as it is just too stressful (Specially with my team :o) without fags

Hope everyones keeping well, havent had time to read everyones posts.... but I did see a comment about Xmas dinner at mine. Haha, its all mine and Im not sharing!!

(PS Yorkies were yummy and huuuuuggee!!!)
