Well here I am feeling very glam after my 3 hour pamper session of chat/massages/laughs/lots of tea and foils/cut at the hairdressers.

I've had quite a positive day both on the emotional and 'smokeless' fronts.........all started by the nice replies PMs I found on here this morning - thanks again.

As I was getting ready to go out I decided to change handbags and when I was putting my purse in the 1 I was taking I found a brand new pack of 10 menthols
I can honestly say I was NOT :j

Opened the pack, took the cigs out and put them under the cold tap before throwing them in the bin. I did not feel I wanted even the teeniest weeniest puff of 1.

I found when I gave up (twice) before it was fairly easy in the first 6 months......then I started thinking about smoking more.......by 1 year I was searching through hubby's jackets just to see if he'd got a pack of cigs - or even cigars - in there (he only smoked when he went out)
BUT this time I will have support on here.........thanks for making me feel so welcome
    DD x

This is the 3rd time I've written a reply - every time I've clicked submit my wireless connection decided to go down..........reply lost

Hi xxlaurissaxx and a very warm welcome to you...and of course you can join us! :D You've mad a marvellous decision, one that you'll be so delighted with as it gives you your life back along with your health! You'll also be amazed at how sweet you smell...especially when you get near smokers! There are so very many benefits to quitting, but the most important of them all is your health, we all wish you well in getting it back to how it was.

I have to confess to not having much time to spare right now, but please read through the PM I've sent you and have a look at Post Number 4049 and all I wrote to dundeedoll. With both I'm sure you'll find plenty of tips, but reading through the thread will help no end. Do your utmost to keep busy, which as you've already realised, is so good to help when stopping smoking. All the best with the inhalator as well as your first day or so as a NON-SMOKER!!! :j

Hi dundeedoll and how lovely to hear you've enjoyed your pampering at the hairdressers, things such as that do us all so much good, but they're also very important to fresh quitters. Aside from that, now we no longer smoke we can afford to treat ourselves so go ahead! :) With regards to the PMs etc I know I can safely speak for larmy in saying, you're most welcome.

Very well done on your treatment to the new pack of 10 menthols, I loved that bit and it really shows how strong you are already, good for you DD! Try not to think too much about how you were affected on past quits, this is now and you are determined and CAN do it, and as you rightly say, you will have support on here. Every day without is such a success DD, all the very best with it!

BTW, as you write your replies, regularly click on the typing area, then go to "Edit" and "Select all", then back up to "Edit" and click on "Copy". That way you'll keep it saved and won't have all that exasperation of losing the lot!!! All good wishes, DD. :D

Hi xxlauris it will be great to have you on board.

Dundeedoll I am in awe at your strength of resolve in such a difficult time. I know what you mean though about it being somewhat easier in the early days and then you can start lamenting the fact that you have stopped.

Still after a few attempts you become wise to the fantasy that smoking has something to offer you. I am one year and three months on (after attempting many many times) and still get the odd crazy desire when I am at my smoking pal's house. When I walk up her path to her house I can smell the nicotine emanating from the walls! That is a good reminder of just how foul it is.

Anyway together we can overcome, so we shall just stick together for support and encouragement. :)

    Have a good week all.

Ha ha......when I walked into the hairdressers yesterday there were some people from the shop next door having a ciggie outside. As I walked past I caught a whiff and I honestly thought I was going to be sick - it was horrible!

Off to clean the car and then more housework...........keeping busy.

Well after brushing myself down after my last failed attempt I am back ready to try again.

I've been running over what went wrong, The way I see it is there are 2 issues, the first is the craving, the "Oh i'd love a fag" thats something I never really experienced and if I did it lasted only a few mins, its the second issue that tripped me up and its the "Ah sod it I can't be @rsed anymore" and it could last all day. I think its down to the motivation slipping. Have you experienced this? If so how did you beat it?

You just have to grit your teeth, go with the craving (but not give in) and let time pass. No other option really. :) It's either that or keep smoking :(

Perhaps it might help if you come on here, google 'benefits of stopping (NOT GIVING UP!) smoking' or the opposite 'disadvantages of smoking' at least once a day or more if you can for a while to keep you motivated. If like me you were a coffee = coffee + cig type of smoker then it may help to stop the coffee too - hard for a couple of days maybe but then may make it easier IYSWIM

Funny thing with me was that I just stopped last Sunday without making the (concious sp?) decision.
Of course I've heard/read about all the health implications of smoking such as heart attack/stroke/cancer.......stupidly never made me want to stop enough to actually do it.
I watched 10 years younger the other night and it really hit home when they said about teeth/gum problems..........I think that's when something went 'TING' in my brain even if I didn't actually fully relise it!

I am back ready to try again.

    Don't TRY again...........DO it
    As in the difference between
'I'm going to try to stop smoking'
'I am going to stop smoking'

Hope that helps.......even if only a little bit.

Hi slugger, it's sooo very good to see you back again. :) One thing NOT to tick yourself off about is that you failed because you didn't. Failure is NOT having a go in the first place...but you did! OK, you lapsed but you knew why. However, don't look for possible 'events' that might not happen anyway, take each day at a time and be so proud with every moment of success.....every hour....etc and praise yourself on every little achievement, as in truth, we all know the little achievements aren't little at all. To an ex-smoker every moment passed is HUGE and so much to be chuffed to bits with - be proud of yourself slugger, we all deserve to be! :D

I can understand what you mean about the motivation slipping, but I think it's us getting so exited about stopping then the novelty wears off a bit. Try and recognise it for being just that and ensure yourself that you need to press on and give this all a far better try, you owe it to your health! It's the best gift you'll ever give yourself slugger and yes, you CAN do it! :)

Excellent advice dundeedoll, so soon too! Very well done you! If memory serves me correctly, you've now succeeded in being an ex-smoker for a whole WEEK today, right? Many congratulations DD, that is brilliant!!:T:T:T

Very well done everyone and keep telling yourselves that yes, it really IS possible to quit, even for YOU the individual! Stay strong at all times and remember, to sip at water, eat plenty of fruit and have plenty of exercise, you'll be amazed how it helps you through.

    Have a GOOD smoke-free week!

    Hello everyone,

I have quit the smoking now and have not had one since last night. I am going cold turkey with it and have been smoking 20 a day.

I would like to say this is my first attempt, but I hope that it will be my last.

I have given up 3 times before and gone without smoking for about 6 months and then for some reason I will just want one and before I know it I am back on them again. This time I don't want that to happen.

    cheers

    D

Hi again D! It so good to see you popping your head round the door once again. :D To be honest, I was thinking you'd already been successful in quitting....apparently not! ;) Never mind D, here we go with the one you've been looking for - the one that really does see you free from the darn things for GOOD!!! :j

You've obviously had a really good go at it the time before and 6 months was GREAT!!!! However, now let's see if we can get you on past that mental stage of giving into "just one", it never works D and is never worth you sacrificing all the months of such hard work. Still, you don't need me to tell you that, I know, but needless to say, we're all with you throughout it all, but next time you have a weak moment PLEASE come on here and ride through the temptation!

It's so good to have you never giving up quitting D...this time eh?! ;)
All the very best and ....STAY STRONG at all times. :)
