OW slugger, just see it as a slip! Throw the rest of the pack away and carry on as if it didn't happen.
When I get a bad craving I have a shower,,,,give it a try. When I was pregnant I used to brush my teeth when I was craving but that does seem to be working this time around, different person now so a different approach I suppose.
I had to go to class today, so today has been quite easy sat in the park with my packed lunch and was just starting to think about a cig, not a craving exactly more a thought if that makes sense. But the heavens opened and we had a quick shower so I went back indoors and thought no more about it, even though the rain only lasted a few moments, the thought of going back outside did not enter my head.
The person next to me was a smoker,,,,,,,ow my is that how I used to smell? Five days ago!
Can't wait till I can say a week!

I said yesterday that I could not tell if my breathing was any better yet, well thinking about it, it must be because at the moment I have an infection, yet I still walked to collage which I normally cannot do when ill, also I can go upstairs without needing a rest when I get to the top, again that is not something I can normally do when I have an infection.
I really would not have believed that the effects were this quick if anyone had told me.

Slugger - just look at it as a slip & start afresh.

Don't do what I did 20 years back & start smoking full time as I slipped. Just stop again & this time have in place emergency contingencies.

I went to bed early as night time was the hardest time & laying down reading seemed to mellow the cravings.

Really think this through & have a plan so that you know how to tackle each new hurdle.
    All the best
Keep at it & you'll suceed.

PS Was at the dentist again this morning - another two teeth out & initial impressions for my dentures done. This is my smoking legacy.

Very well done indeed SanFran! Isn't it amazing just how soon you're able to look toward to that first full week, keep up the GREAT work!!:T

Oh dear slugger, that's such a rotten shame, but as others have already told you - if it's just the one - then look upon it as a blip and move on back as though it hadn't happened. Be very careful though as it's not often we get another chance to start getting our health back to where it should be, sadly a crafty fag can stop the quit we sought so hard to want to do. You chose to stop slugger now prove to your loved ones that they really can be proud of you, you can too!! ;) Read the PM I sent, it helps at such times as this.

Hi choille, it's lovely to see you. :) I'm not sure whether to sympathise with you or be happy for you about your teeth, though I'm sure you'll be chuffed to bits in which case I'm delighted for you. One step closer to the you that used to be! Well done choille, you've done yourself proud! :T

All the very best folk, have another good smoke-free day tomorrow.

Hi Sue - It was smoking that caused the gum recession & hence my tooth lose. The teeth are great the gums are jiggered so I've slowly being getting them extracted and will end up with dentures pretty soon - got to go again in a month & have my remaining top teeth out - eeeeekkkk. It's not been great but the dentist is very gentle - well as much as he can be & he suggested that we stage the extractions over several months to allow the gums to heal - so less traumatic than it could be.
Once everything is in place & my gums have shrunk - eeeek! I'll get private dentures made with the money I would have spent on fags - going NHS until I get my final dentures made.

If I would have known what smoking can do to your teeth then maybe I wouldn't have started but I doubt it as we turn a blind eye when starting on our smoking career.

    Cheers Sue.

Hi choille, and thanks for that, though I was aware of your dilemma as I'd seen your's and oldreekie's posts about your teeth. I know you've both been through the mill, not to worry though as pretty soon they'll be looking beautiful! :D Yep, like that!! ;)

I'm sure that if we'd known many of the full dangers about smoking and all it can do we probably wouldn't have listened way back then. I just wish with all the graphic details youngsters have at hand these days that they'd take notice, but so many don't. Our neighbour's lass (13) and her BF both smoke like little chimneys, mind you so do all parents! :(

    All the best choille!

Cheers Sue - Yes kids smoking is bad. I think that if the parents smoke then it's more than likely that their offspring will copy Mum & Dad.

Wonder they can afford to as it is relatively a lot more expensive than it was.

    All the best.

Grrr I slipped. I was reading the evening paper and something triggered a memory of me smoking, In my 4 days off them I would say it was my first proper craving, I tried to fight it, I had a bit of chewing gum, I had cold water, I even pottered around the garden but I couldn't shift it, I mean this went on for an hour, So I walked 1 mile to a shop and bought 10 fags, even the walk didn't put me off, I had the smoke and it was totally rotten and I wondered why the hell I did it, Now I'm riddled with guilt as my wife and kids were totally behind me now I feel like I let everyone down :( How do I pick myself up again?? A note to anyone else in my situation DON'T DO IT, YOU WILL REGRET IT

    Slugger, what a shame.

I am no psychobabbleist but I would like to suggest you re-programme yourself a little bit :o

I think you are going to find it hard to give up while you are still harbouring thoughts that you are depriving yourself of a pleasant experience or a treat or something nice.
    You are not!!!
You are choosing not to partake in the most pointless activity ever invented. My God, even heroin addicts get a buzz out their addiction, they do not stink nor will heroin cause many various cancers:rotfl:

If you can, please try and tell yourself that giving up is not a punishment where you make a great sacrifice, instead tell yourself it is the ONLY thing you could do as an intelligent person, and is the best thing to happen to yourself for a long long time.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and try again. Please do not give up giving up.

    YOU DO NOT SMOKE. :D

It is as simple as that.

Wise words Daz. Also Slugger, if you give in to a blip and think "Oh well, that's me, so useless, I may as well continue to smoke" - just think of Old Nic rubbing his hands with glee and saying "yes! that's another one for an early coffin".

Sorry if that sounds dramatic, but smoking really is deadly. Even more life draining, in my view is the psychological hold it has over us. Nothing is pleasurable with that itching, nagging need to smoke. It is so Blo+dy inconvenient too.

I hope you do see this as a blip as I can tell you the more times you give in, the more times you attempt to quit.....the harder it gets to find that ooomph and courage. I speak from experience on this.

Incidentally, why don't men get smoker's lines around their mouths!???

Trust you larmy! You delve to ruddy deep into these things ...at our expense! I hadn't noticed that though, but I'm on a mission here in!!! ;)

Your words aren't dramatic at all, they're just very, very true and we need to keep reminded of the very fact that fags do KILL ...if we allow them to! Very well said indeed larmy!!! :T

Wow Daz, your words were put across in a really amazing way and if that's how you're viewing quitting ...no wonder you're doing sooo darned well. Keeping yourself reminded of all that you've put above and it will see you through Daz, keep at it!!

I do so hope you're still quitting slugger, please let us know just what you're thinking now as it would quite possibly help you on.

Well folks, how can I not finish up with a few of Daz's words (below) to slugger tonight, but if anyone wants help then please read Daz's and larmy's posts above. Plain speaking but, by golly it's the truth!

I would like to add that it used to go through my mind that nicotine is the drug that promises so much yet delivers absolutely nothing. There is no high, just slavery.

If you want to get angry, then get angry at the tobacco giants who are absolutely delighted that you are hooked and they could not give a damn if you or you children suffer because of it. Infact they are counting on it!
