I would like to add that it used to go through my mind that nicotine is the drug that promises so much yet delivers absolutely nothing. There is no high, just slavery.

If you want to get angry, then get angry at the tobacco giants who are absolutely delighted that you are hooked and they could not give a damn if you or you children suffer because of it. Infact they are counting on it!

Such sound advice there larmy and by golly tis ALL so very true! As to your last paragraph, THAT should have to be put on every packet of the blasted things. They're lethal and if everyone (including kids) stopped to think about it they'd HAVE to admit it.

Very, very thought-provoking larmy. I can't add to that, but please EVERYONE, if you're struggling at all then take note of larmy's and Daz's words.

  • Howdy folks,

It's been a while, how is everyone getting on? I have managed to stick to my rule of 2 cigarettes a day for 3 months now. The new rules are I have to wait until after 7:00PM and also have to cleanse and moisturise my face first.

My skin is so much better, dark circles are gone from my eyes and I love the smell of my smoke-free clothes.

I pretty much cut down cold turkey...not sure if I'll be able to quit all together though...surely 2 a day isn't so bad?

I did that myself for ages - but two a week! Worst of all worlds (in my view).

Of course physically it has to be better to only have two than twenty
but it will never break the psychological addiction.

I understand only too well what you are doing though - its striking a bargain with nicotine - I can have these, if I do such and such, brush my teeth, clean my clothes, smoke outside...........

Hope you do find the strength to quit eventually though. :)

    2 a day :rotfl:

That was all I was allowed during my assorted stays in military jails . BUT at least the Army paid for them.

I had my last nurses appointment today. Told her I had finished the fags and finished the Champix a month early.

We dusted our hands off, smiled and said our goodbyes.

Thanks NHS, I would not have done it without you.:T:T:T:T:T

Hello, total newbie to this thread...........been smoking about 3 x pack of 20 a week and wanted to stop several times (took zyban in 2001 and stopped until 2005) but no joy. Ran out Sun lunchtime and didn't decide to give up just had no urge to get any more - still haven't bought any.
Not really craving badly as such, well not physically at all but more mentally and even that is hardly at all.
Am worried about overeating tho' - am STARVING all the time and normally only have a couple of apples during the day and then a good meal at night. I do drink LOTS, usually melissa or fennel tea or water.
Basically I just need some support I think..........sorry for wittering on.........read the above back to myself and it sounds so silly.
Am feeling quite down as I've just (very unexpectedly) split up from my partner after 18 months of believing I had found the love of my life........a 37 second phonecall saying "I just don't feel the same about you anymore" and nothing since.
Anyway, as I say, a bit of help to keep me off the fags would be great!

    Hi dundeedoll

First of all a big hug (()) for your horrible experience with your partner. This happened to a friend of mine a while ago. Out of the blue her partner just did not love her anymore. turned out he was knocking off some older woman. Anyway fast forward a few months and she has met a wonderful man and her previous partner is having the biggest regret of his life.
That is how the cookie crumbles sometimes though.

If you can manage to not smoke during this, well you can cope with anything! For now though you are going to have to treat yourself with kid gloves. You cannot expect too much when you have a recent broken heart as well.

Hope you are ok. Stay with us and you will be ok. Take care.

Aaaawhh thanks! Yes I AM totally heartbroken......can't think of anything else - he is in my head the whole time......I can't sleep much (well, get to sleep ok bout 11 ish, then wake up just after 1, just after 3 tho' I just stick talk sport on for 1/2 hr on snooze and normally go back to sleep) but then wake up just after 5 and that's it!)
Have this huge painful lump in my throat the whole time......can't breathe properly..........keep getting panic attacks........strangely haven't been able to cry either - just feel numb.
BUT have been on the forums loads and read some of the split up posts and it's helped me - I know I'm being stupid and I have to get on with life AND I WILL!!! I have NOT contacted him at all.

Off to the hairdressers tomorrow for highlights and cut so that's my pamper treatto myself.

Anyway I really do want to stick to the no smoking so will defo come back to this thread for encouragement if I do feel myself having a weak moment. It's great having a thread like this - a bit of encouragement is such a help and makes you feel that you are not totally alone.

Hi Derby-Girl and wonderful news about you having stuck to the 2 a day for 3 whole months!!!! However, as larmy points out, so long as you smoke however many it will never break the psychological addiction that you're really aiming for. Just to hopefully help a little; I got down to my 2 per day (evening) for just under 3 months then thought - WHY?? Think on it and if you possibly can then make the complete break just as soon as you possibly can. After all, what good are those 2 doing you anyway??! You CAN do it DG!

Brilliant news Daz!!! BTW, how long is it now? It has to be around 2 months or so surely. Reading all the things you write, I can easily believe your tale about your "stays in military jails" very well. :D Still, at least it helped you to know you could break that habit ...the naughty ones too I guess!!! ;)

Hi dundeedoll and a very warm welcome to our help thread. I hope you've found the PM I've sent, it has some helpful bits and pieces to help you see it all through, though the water etc is already doing you good. I'm so very sorry to hear about your break-up, my heart goes out to you truly, but if nothing else why not be determined to make it count for something really important to you, such as quitting! At least then you'd be able to make the NOW count for something great for your health than something painful for your heart! :)

By the way, after (what I thought was) a very sad break-up (we were engaged too) I met the man of my REAL dreams, the most wonderful man ever who has always been the world to me, and that was YEARS ago!! I know now that the break-up was meant to be, to enable me to meet my real Mr right! Hang on DD, all this has been sent for a purpose...the future will all be revealed when the time is right. Meanwhile, take care of yourself and all WILL come good....you'll even be well on your way to getting your health right back on track! :j

ALL of us here will be urging you on and wishing you the very best to do what you've probably wanted to do for so long. Most of us get on alright after the initial first few days, some finding it far easier than ever they'd thought possible; I do hope that's how it is for you. However, on this thread we talk to each other, telling the others exactly how we feel, how our day has been, good or bad. Then seeing the replies of others, how they're all coping and what gives them the strength to continue.

If there's anything that crosses your mind which just might give you a buzz and help you through it more easily...try it out! Just never, ever be tempted to have "just one puff or just one fag" as it never works! :( One of our very successful members attributed her success to eating/sucking Ice Poles... and it's since worked for others too!

If you're a little anxious for now then why not read through some of this thread as well as the other one, you'll no doubt find some very helpful posts here. You'll also find many posts from excited members at their joy of having quit!! :) Stick with us dundeedoll as we'd all love to help you to your goal of having QUIT smoking for good. :) Try "Kalms" to help you with sleeping much better, they're a natural remedy and really do help.

I wish you all that you'll be wishing for yourself.....,we ALL will!

    Good Morning!
Carol and Sue - thank you SO much for both your replies on here and for taking the time to PM me. Both such lovely PMs that have made me feel better even if they did bring a tear to my eye.......

In a real rush as I've just put some chicken etc in my slow cooker and now getting ready to go into town, so no time for proper reply but didn't want to rush off without saying thank you.

Hope everybody has a good day today...........see you all later x
