Many apologies bluebellbunny!
It was just that you didn't mention exercise in the post, only the fruit and veg. Still, wrong of me to assume so I do apologise for that. Actually, it sounds more as though you do hiking out there!! Wrong about the coffee too, oh 'eck, it just wasn't my day was it!!
A good idea about asking your Dr for a bomb or whatever's necessary to shift it!!! Your weight should be interesting afterwards, you may even match taxi's!!
I do agree with you, that so long as you're not in a vulnerable state that living a normal life is good, less to have to readjust to later.
If you think of anything else you think might 'move' me please do say as still no progress in that department. really just can't imagine what is happening in there! Anyway missed my workout this morning so gonna go rake up all the grass cuttings instead, better get on before it's time to start dinner. a woman's work is never done eh?! :rotfl:

Hi Liseyloo a very warm welcome to the thread , you wont regret the dission to free yourselves from the chain of the cigarette ,
this thread has been such a boost for me to be able to vent my thoughts etc whilst stopping and staying stopped particularly in the early days when all i thought about was smoking . stay focused and determoned .
YOU mentioned the financial savings i downloaded a programme called silkquit will try and find the link for you it tells you Exactly how much you have saved , and more disgusting how many cigarettes you would have smoked i would have smoked 1412 by now:eek: i just keep thinking of the awful amount of tabbies a right put off and deterent i'd say
well done taxi73 on your weight loss too a Fantastic achievement :T stay with it
hope you get relief soonn BB must be very uncomfortable for you
remember everyone its not giving up , its empowering yourself to make a choice and regain control of your life .. be proud x x0 -
Thanks all for the positives.
Day 8 today and all going well...feeling a bit chesty today and tired but it will pass.
Managed to stick with my points today as well..I have 6 1/2 left....
One day at a time is the best way for me to think at the moment.0 -
You're welcome liseyloo. I think you're viewing stopping smoking in an excellent way, all the best with keep up the cold turkey, it'll get you through it all quicker and keep you nicotine free. Whatever works for everyone is what counts. Incidentally, not everyone gets affected with constipation, I didn't and unless many on here have been too polite to say (we don't get many of them!) then I'd say it's about 50% that are affected - lets hope you and hubby are in there!
Here is the link that jammy dodger was talking about http://www.silkquit.org/stop-smoking/quit-meter.aspx , it really does motivate folk.
Oh bluebellbunny, you told me off something rotten, I came off the PC and howled all night long! No, of course you didn't, but I was a little concerned that I just might have hurt you, so was covering myself as I'd hate to do that to anyone. Still, all's well now.
I sincerely wish I could think of something else that would 'move' you; how about prunes ....or gelignite? :undecided:huh: Still, tomorrow you're off to the Drs, just as well too! If that fails try Epsom salts, they're supposed to give you the .......!
Very well done again jammy dodger, excellent words of wisdom, and you doing so very well too. Keep both up!
You're so determined taxi73, more wonderful news again! The chesty feeling could be the cold, but it could also be due to the rubbish in your lungs starting to shift. If it's the latter then it's a good sign. The tiredness is a common symptom at the beginning of quitting, but in your case it could still be the cold you've had. Stick with the quitting and losing weight and you're all set to feel soooo very much better, soon too!
Again everyone, I'm closing off with jammy dodger's very wise piece of advice:
"remember everyone its not giving up , its empowering yourself to make a choice and regain control of your life .. be proud x "

Hi everyone
well i have been quite 4 weeks 4 days now, hit a really bad patch on Sunday (the 4 week mark) all I wanted was a cig, I really can't understand it I was feeling so positive and I woke up on Sunday morning and that was my whole thought for the day, monday wasn't quite as bad but the urges were very strong. Tuesday and wednesday I was ok but today i could kill for one again I do not understand it, I am struggling a lot this week it is not good
Also re the patches, I read someone saying they were irrating them? mine are doing exactly the same to the point I have to rip them off and its getting earlier and earlier in the day, I'm left with huge, raised red squares of itchy skin for days I've tried moving the patch around different places so now have very blotchy arms and legs.
hope everyone is feeling and doing much better than I feel at the moment.

Hi everyone - so good to see that we are all sticking to it. Good to see new folk taking up the challenge, too! This is such a fantastic place to be - I could never have done it without all the fantastic support of Sue-UU and fellow quitters. Okay, beginnning to sound like an awards ceremony acceptance speech:D.
Today Silkquit says:-
1 month 4 weeks 2hrs 15mins
Cigarettes not smoked: 1121
Amount saved: £314.11
I will be stepping down to a smaller patch tomorrow. Just wish I could stop thinking about cigarettes - it is not all the time, but enough to keep me on my toes and the reason why I am not convinced about NRT. It is not really replacement therapy, is it? Our bodies are being fed nicotine, constantly, and therefore "old nick" is still alive though, hopefully, somewhat weaker. At some time in the next few weeks I will have to stop feeding him ..... heard from someone yesterday who has been on the lozenges for 2 years!! Guess that has to be better than the 4000+ chemicals in every cigarette. Sorry, not meaning to dampen the upbeat tone of this board; just pondering and hoping that someone, who has been following the same programme, will come along and tell me that the programme has worked for them. I gather, from my pharmacist, that folk join up, come along for a few weeks and then disappear. Wonder if the Scottish govenment has those statistics?
As for the bad C. Everyone I speak to has the same problem ~ maybe some of us just do not feel brave enough to discuss it. It was one of the reasons I failed to stop smoking last summer; just added to my depression. So this time I prepared for it. Prunes twice a day, lots of soft fruit, vegetables, fybrogel twice a day and a bowl of porridge in the morning. No bad fats as in ready prepared meals - everything cooked from fresh, ginger and garlic where possible and curries. Lots of curries!! Anyone want my SA curried mince recipe? Works a treat and is dead easy. And quick!
Hi, Emma133, the patches are still causing problems and, like you, I have to tear them off. Thankfully, the lozenges seem to see me through to bedtime. I'm not sure if it is because our skin builds up an intolerance to them (problem started about 4th week) or that the weather is warming up and warm skin + adhesive causes a reaction.
SueUU - re Facebook slowing down computer - have you tried Firefox? I have to use it for FB - IE just says "NO"!
DC - not sure if this may help you. I, too, could not face the thought of not starting the day (or ending it i.e. going to bed) without a cup of coffee/tea, peace and quiet to sort the muddle in my head and a cigarette. So, I used the inhalator. Would go to my favourite spot in the garden, my "thinking" place and it worked! Within a week, I just needed the coffee and now I do not need to go outside but can enjoy the coffee whilst reading through the new messages on here and loggin in to my ActiveStop programme. It is an extremely good resource.

not posted here before but i gave up the dreaded fags last weekend of january used to smoke 20-25 a day did 1 week on patches then for some reason started to forget about putting them on.
have tried giving up before and always ended up climbing the walls and just going back on them, this time however i had the kick up !!!! i needed by seeing my granddad pass away from smoking related illness i instantly decided i did not want my family to see me go through that.i have not looked back since even been out on the beer several times and been on holiday and still not had any weak moments.
trust me it is not worth smoking when you witness first hand the damage it can cause in the long term, not to mention the amount of money i am now saving.0 -

So sorry to hear about your granddad. Too many of my friends and relations have been affected by the evils of smoking. Strange how we stick our heads in the sand, convinced that it will not happen to us. Point to the 90 year olds who have smoked all their lives and have never had a days illness.
Well done :j and many thanks for reminding us of why we are stopping.I am a non-smoker :j last cigarette 10th February 20100 -
Hi again Emma, lovely to see you and very well done at your success! :T Could Sunday have been brought about by Easter, the relaxation, maybe even visitors or extra chocolate? It's amazing how weekends for some folk or Bank Holidays and any holidays themselves can be a trigger in the early days. However, you stayed so very strong and stayed FREE form all that addiction starting all over again! .Tim will soon take away times like Sunday, but like grief, it takes time. Though to be fair, I honestly believe it takes longer with patches or any sort on NRT. No matter what you think and how you feel now and then Emma, all this is so worth it and you've fought hard to get to where you are. Keep it up no matter what and remember Sunday at weak times - and how well you did! Be strong Emma, but most of all - be very, very proud of yourself!!!
Hello there oldreekie. What a shame you stopped with all the praising, I don't know about the others but I was just about to receive a BAFTA, Oscar or something very much likened to either!!!Ah, we all help each other oldreekie and you're doing just as well as jammy!!:T I'm quite sure you're right in all your thoughts about patches not really being a NRT. To my mind it always seemed that way and I so wanted to quit as fast as possible so I opted to go cold turkey and get shot of the nicotine ASAP. Having said all that, everyone is different and both you and Emma and others on patches have been on them for some while, and better them than to go back to smoking which never bears thinking about!!! However, many of you are having real problems with the patches, and (easy for me to say) I honestly believe that IF it was me, I'd be leaving them off and trying to go the rest of the way doing all that you've been doing anyway - still using the willpower necessary as well as all the pride you each have with getting to where you already are! IF you do then it's still a case of after 3 days your bodies will be free from ALL nicotine, but it's down to each of you. Have a word with your Drs or Pharmacists and see what their thoughts would be, but whatever you do PLEASE do NOT quit quitting!!! Better to suffer a little while longer than to throw away all you've achieved so far which is so very much!
Re Facebook oldreekie, I've only ever used Firefox. Maybe it's just that my PC doesn't have enough memory now, getting like me I'm sure!!!Thanks a lot for the thoughts any way, I appreciate them.
Hello johnnyroper and thank you so very much indeed for telling us about the reasons why you quit, it's things like illnesses and losses that really can spur those who are quitting to stick with it and look ahead to when they can be completely free of smoking and, in time, get their health back! My sincere condolences at the sad loss of your Granddad, he's quite possibly watching over you and willing you to good health!! Congratulation on your accomplishment so far johnny! :T Any time you'd like to come back and update us on your success please do so as it would be good to know, an incentive for the others here too.
All the very best everyone, enjoy the sunshine, the fresh (not smokey) air and enjoy LIFE free from dirty, smelly fags!!! :j

Hi All, Am sure that you are all aware of the problem I've been having so I won't go over it all again since it IS a bit gross :rotfl: but just typically as I had finally given in after trying all the natural remedies and booked a drs appointment the floodgates opened this morning just before I left the house!!!! Don't want to be too graphic and it wasn't much but at least there is some movement! Will stop going on about it now but thought I'd better let you all know that I haven't exploded!!!! :rotfl:
