well done taxi73 you should be so pleased with yourself , take each day at a time it gets easier and you;ll be noticing how much fresher you feel and hhow stinky fags were to be around . stay focused on reasons for quitting . I wish you well

sTick with it DC never say never YOU CAN BEAT THIS , as suu says maybe try cutting down initially may help each time reach for a smoke ask if you feel you "need " it and try and give yourself diversions to put off lighting it

.try changing your "YOU " time when kids have gone off to school to something that doesnt involve or asossiate with a smoke maybe a wee walk and enjoy peace and fresh air at same time or sit and read a magazine come on here maybe ? so you still have your you time and a wee reward . good luck

I have just hopefully smoked my last Ciggie. DH and I are trying to give up together and put the money that we would spend on cigs towards paying off our horrendous debts. Any tips on how NOT to kill each other would be much appreciated :D

It's fairly common to get constipated after you stop, that's why we need to literally take steps to combat it. How much exercise are you getting Jojo and bluebellbunny? Not enough from the sounds of it. :( Get on out and have a really good and brisk walk as often as you possibly can and you'll both be feeling a heck of a lot more comfortable, getting slimmer too Jojo!! Another good thing for it is water, add to that apples and plenty of veg, dried apricots too - but please girls do get the walking in as it helps you so very much, it also helps with the cleansing through process from all that the smoking's left behind and in general will make you both feel so much better mentally. Also BBB, slow down on the coffee and you'll find the quitting much easier; coffee stirs up the fag thoughts, the 2 are far too closely related. Try tea instead.
Thanks Sue but that's definitely not the answer for me since I live an hours walk from the nearest shop - GRRRR! - and don't drive so have to do A LOT of walking also after my one black coffee in the morning I drink gallons and gallons of water and am being VERY careful not to pile on the pounds so having LOADS of fruit and veg - actually LOSING weight even without going to the loo, God only knows where it's all going! Have Drs on Thursday and think I may have to get something off them as it's just getting ridiculous. Don't want to give up my coffee, it doesn't make me want a cigarette anymore and I don't want to just associate it with smoking, the same as drinking alcohol would get if I didn't allow myself to have a drink in case of cravings, I think you have to just try and live as normally as you always did but without the cigarettes or you will fall into the trap - like I have in the past - and the first time you go out and have a drink it all comes flooding back and you end up smoking. Am still off the cigs, still struggling BUT I know that it's worth it and I just can't do this again since it seems to get harder each time so this has GOT TO BE IT!!!!
Stick with it guys, you're not alone in your suffering!

WOW! Well done taxi73! I was trying to lose weight before I gave up smoking but it was just too hard to do the both for me, just had to try and maintain what I had lost but if you can do both then I think you are AMAZING! :j Don't be too disappointed if you can't lose as fast as you'd like to, it's very hard to deny yourself all your treats when you're trying to give up smoking and just HAVE to stuck something in your gob instead of a cigarette! Well done to you and stick with it, slowly but surely it DOES start getting easier! :)

Very many congratulations on such great achievements taxi!!!!! :T I'm absolutely thrilled for you on both counts! You must be so very proud of losing the weight AND gaining health and money being a week smoke-free! That great loss and a week free from fags has to be the incentive you were looking for, but it's only sheer hard work that's got you there. Onward you go taxi and VERY well done indeed!!! Good to hear about the cold getting better.

Many apologies bluebellbunny! :o It was just that you didn't mention exercise in the post, only the fruit and veg. Still, wrong of me to assume so I do apologise for that. Actually, it sounds more as though you do hiking out there!! Wrong about the coffee too, oh 'eck, it just wasn't my day was it!! :o A good idea about asking your Dr for a bomb or whatever's necessary to shift it!!! Your weight should be interesting afterwards, you may even match taxi's!! ;) I do agree with you, that so long as you're not in a vulnerable state that living a normal life is good, less to have to readjust to later.

Thanks a lot for the help jammy dodger, always a very good sign when a quitter helps others with tips and advice, very well done! How long is it for you now?

Another great day everyone, keep on going as you are now as you've so much to gain ....and nowt to lose!!! :D

Good Morning!!! Thanks all for your encouragement - think that I'll be needing it!! We do have a cupboard full of patches but I am trying will power alone at the moment - and the psychological view that I haven't given up - I can have a ciggie when i want to - I am just choosing not to have one. Or I tell myself I'll have one in 10 minutes. That seems to be doing the trick at the moment!

I'd also like to congratulate everyone on here that is doing and has done so well - keep up the good work!!!

p.s Not so much looking forward to this constipation lark though!! :D

p.p.s Thanks for your words of encouragement Sue - I'll try out your tips for definite!!
