fantastic news choile I remember well reading your posts in the early days of your quit as it wasnt long after i had gone through the same thing .and look at you now :T:T:T
so good to hear of every ones successes , and for those having a blip never stop trying it'll come to you too
stay stong and throw those ashtrays in the recycle , ..Hmmmmm i wonder what they could be made into0 -
Sue & Jammydodger & all - I'm so chuffed & really I hardly miss the fags at all. I do think it's easier being quite isolated & not really near shops - although I don't really have cravings for a fag.
I am however pretty grumpy but there has been a lot of 'stuff' going on & it's probably my age/hormone thing eeeek - what a combination.
I've been dragging some old trees up from down the bottom of the croft & am pretty surprised at how less out of breath I am. I also notice that my cat who had a wheezy thing going on seems much better - shame on me. I think my skin looks less 'grey'. I'm busier now the weather's improved & that makes it easier too. Also less panicky thinking that I'm running out of fags - that was always a constant stress especialy when the weather was bad.
I haven't been putting the money aside as we have been uber skint but I would have spent an outrageous amount by now.
I feel really pleased that I'm a non smoker.
All the very best to you all.0 -
Haven't been on this thread for a while as I have been having difficulties. A few domestic problems, shall we say, and of course I ran for my comfort blanket
. Strangely though there was a part of me that stayed in control and said well ok i have a bit of comfort but wouldn't allow myself to have more than 2/3 cigarettes a day. This lasted for about 5 days.
Since last Saturday I have been back off the fags completely :j.
I don't know whether I will have another "comfort break" or not but I do know that I don't ever want to be and will not be the complete addict that I was. I still feel like an ex-smoker rather than a non smoker but ex is better than current.
I am so pleased to see that other people are doing so well, particularly Choille and Emma133 who stopped at the same time as me.We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -
Hi
I joined this thread about a year ago. I did really well for a while and then sadly fell by the wayside again on a night out with my husband (who also fell by the wayside).
I gave up again 3 days ago. I'm using patches although only the low ones as I've developed an allergy to them so I can't tolerate the higher strength ones. Planning to use them for a couple of weeks while I get used to not smoking and then go cold turkey.
I feel a bit strange at the moment and I've got a horrendous cough which is driving me mad. I know it's all part of the healing process but I can't wait for it to go and that is helping to motivate me to stay off the fags.
Really hope I can do it this time.
Edit: just read through a few posts and this business about getting itchy with the patches and them leaving red marks is exactly what's happened to me. I never used to have a problem with them (and have in the past used them for 2-3 months) and am wondering if they've changed the formulations?0 -

DC, I seem to follow you round, I started the first thread nearly 3 years ago and can't tell you how many times I had to report that I'd fallen off the wagon again, it was totally humiliating cos I started the thread :rotfl: got there eventually though, don't ever stop stopping

Choille, I am so pleased and infact proud of you :T I am so glad that you are now seeing the benefits. Do you remember after your first couple of posts I told you about me running for that bus every morning almost having a conary, then quit smoking and how it got easier and easier? I told you didn't I! I'm also very pleased for your catwhathavewedone wrote: »just read through a few posts and this business about getting itchy with the patches and them leaving red marks is exactly what's happened to me. I always got red itchy skin when I used the patches, just took that as an irritating side effect though and thought the good they were doing me overrode it iykwim.
Everyone is doing so very well, welcome to all the new faces and congratulations where ever you are in your quit, whether it be years, months, weeks, days, hours or in planning stage

Hi Ameliarate - great you've reined yourself in. Srry that you are having problems & it says a lot that you are trying again. I'm sure that you'll manage as you sound very determined.
I just look at the price when in the shop - over £6 @ packet now & think well I did often smoke 30 fags a day - eek!
I am so pleased I found this thread & all you brilliant people who are also 'doing it' along side me or have been there.
Cheers Jo - You are an inspiration & yes you did say about the running for the bus.
I did used to sound like Rab C Nesbit when I got up & had my first coffee & three fags in quick succession. I don't miss the coughing my lungs up.
The cat was suffering badly from a nasal/chest thing which was being made worse by me smoking! He is much improved now - thankfully.
All the best everyone.0 -
Hi I'd like to join you all and get a little support. This is day 2 for me of not smoking. I am using patches but i am struggling a bit I couldn't sleep last night. Anyway going to go to bed soon and hopefully sleep tonight.
Well done to everyone who has quit.

Hi Ixia - Good on you.
I got a load of support on here. If you think that you've managed for a couple of days that's really great.
At the start I went to bed early & just read as lying down seemed to ease the cravings for me.
All the best.0 -
Thanks Choille
Good advice I stopped a couple of months ago for three weeks then started again
However I am determined to do it this time. Need to save money for my son going to uni and my skin is in terrible condition I am really badly wrinkled if I keep smoking I am going to be in some state in 5 years time.
I need to keep myself busy and try not to think about it although that's all I seem to be doing, I keep seeing cigarettes in front of me.
Anyway thanks again for the support I'll check in tomorrow off to bed.
