Nearly at the end of day 15 now and noticed that I'm managing to walk a bit faster and further.
Have to have another test done on friday to see whether I have COPD....had one december it said I was borderline..hopefully this time it'll say I'm not.
Followed my WW plan this week and gained 1/2lb..don't know why:eek::eek::eek: but will keep on going.
Well done to everyone ..that isn't smoking and another day free.0 -
Hi All,
Sorry I haven't been on so much lately, I AM still here and STILL SMOKE FREE - YAY!!!! :j
Just had to come on and post quickly as I noticed my little silkquit thing at the bottom of my computer saying 1 month 26 mins that I haven't smoked for now - woop woop woop! Still very much struggling with it but I am still on the high strength patches and am sure that with the NRT and TONS of willpower I WILL do it this time! Another couple of weeks and I think I might treat myself to a fantastical new hair do
Right bedtime now - hope I don't dream of cigarettes AGAIN - seems to be every night for the whole month now!
Well done and keep at it all of you lovely non smokers out there, I'm sure that we can beat that evil, stinky weed!!The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.

Hi everyone and welcome to the newcomers.
9 weeks :j
But I am sure there is a problem with the Silkquit meter. It says 2 months 4 days - how can it be that when I gave up on a Wednesday and today is Thursday ~ it is Thursday, yes? So that makes it 9 weeks! Last week it was correct.
taxi73 - good luck with the COPD test tomorrow. I did no know that there was a test for it.
Great to see you again chollie and well done. You must be so proud of yourself - I remember all the difficulties at the beginning.
Welcome ixia - I had problems sleeping at first. Suggest you read through the pages of p0sts to see what helped others. I found valarian (Quiet Life) very useful.
So sorry to hear that you have had a "blip" ameliarate but so pleased that you have come back to us :T I know what you mean about "comfort" and have been missing it this week. Very grumpy. Does not help that OH seems to be smoking more than normal (outside) and that he stinks of cigar smoke - I know which rooms he has been into as the smell from his clothes seems to linger. So conducive to a loving relationship ...not!
Sue-UU - not sure if my last message to you made sense. Just to confirm ~ I meant log off from Windows, then log on again; it is much quicker than a restart but clears any applications that have not shut down correctly. Hope that helps - I find that ebay slows down my laptop now they are running all those ridiculous adverts. Often have to log off/log on just to speed things up again.
Thanks to everyone for keeping me going - there have been times recently when the resolve has weakened but the thought of you keeps me going. :TI am a non-smoker :j last cigarette 10th February 20100 -

I got a little confused with mine when it's has gone to one month today although I am on 5 and a bit weeks but it is right since there is not exactly 4 weeks per month - Did you not give up on 10th Feb? If so that is right - 10th April would have been two months so 15th is 2M 4D and a few hoursHope that help....

Hi
The cough is still awful, nose running like a tap, spots broken out all over my face, look really grey etc. Woke up at 3am last night and could not get back to sleep. Felt awful all day - last time I quit that happened to me day after day for weeks on end. I'd forgotten how grim it makes you feel. Why do you get insomnia when you quit smoking? Smoking is meant to be a stimulant so you'd think you'd sleep better when you stopped doing it0 -
Hi
Thanks to you all for welcoming me. Day 3 for me and doing ok today considering I forgot to put a patch on. Don't think mu hubby would agree though he says I'm a moan.0 -
Many thanks bluebellbunny :T silly of me not to look at it that way! 9 weeks seems longer than 2 months if you get my drift ~ and I need all the encouragement I can get at the moment. The Nicorette ActiveStop is drawing down now that I am coming to the end of the programme so the texts telling me how wonderful I am are only twice weekly rather than daily:( The online daily tasks and pep talks have stopped ~ silly really because this is when folk need it most. Well folk like me!! What I am trying to say is that we all need someone to say - well done, another day without smoking. Acknowledgement of our achievement.
whathavewedone, you asked "Why do you get insomnia when you quit smoking?" From what I have read it is all to do with the chemicals in the brain. Long walks, lots of fresh air, natural sleep remedies, oats in warm milk etc - your pharmacist should be able to advise you. It does pass. Now, I could sleep 24/7 ~ no stimulants!
ixia, you have every right to moan - come here to moan & hopefully we will help you to rejoice at your achievement :j:j:j Apparently, I am no fun anymore ~ at least I do not cough on waking up, clear my throat all day or smell disgusting:j:j:j (isn't he lovely? - reminds me of our dog when he hears the rattle of the lead)
I am a non-smoker :j last cigarette 10th February 20100 -
A warm welcome to the thread whathavewedone and ixia! Good to see you both determined to beat it, especially you WHWD! At least you're having another go, good for you!
Try your very best to beat it this time ixia and you'll very soon see such a difference in your skin!
whathavewedone I think oldreekie's answered your question perfectly all the things she says about really do help so give each a really good try. Also try a really relaxing bath/shower before bed and read for a little while too that'll get fags away from your mind. Try some 'soothers' to help if the cough is affecting your throat, you may even find they help with the cough too.
choille, you're really sounding so very much healthier now. Even though it can be hard to start with, I think we all soon find so many ways that it's already helped us. Keep on with it choille, it's the best thing you've ever done!
Very well done ameliarate,:T it's the getting back and keeping up with it that counts. This time amelia, this time!
Hi taxi73 and very well done on 15 days of great success! :T Like oldreekie I didn't have a clue about a test for COPD either. Good luck with getting it down anyway, but whether you have done or not (yet) just keep battling on with it as you really do sound as though you're reaping such great rewards through it all. Don't worry too much about the weight, some of that may be through water retention or for many other reasons, just keep up with WW and all you know is within your limits and get plenty of walking and general exercise, all of which will help get the weight off, keep thoughts of cigs from your mind AND expand your lungs to help against the COPD!
Great news about the 1 month 26 mins quitting time bluebellbunny, brilliant news!! :T I know you've been having a struggle - BUT - you're getting there and ...succeeding! So be so very proud of all you've achieved and do as you think you will and treat yourself to a fantastic new hair do! Spoiling yourself gives you such a buzz ...and why not!!!
Thanks a lot for the explanation about Windows oldreekie, I wondered about that at the time, but thought maybe the freedom from fags had got to you!I'm pleased BBB was able to help you with the silkcut. That must be horrible to be able to smell your hubby and his cigars so much, but it proves you've got your sense of smell back to strength! I used to love the smell of cigar smoke, but not now.
I agree with all you're saying, but whatever you don't receive anymore from the other place you get from us! :j The further on everyone gets on here is wonderful and something to be rejoiced for you as well as the incentive for everyone else! Keep it up OR and stay so very proud of all you've accomplished so far!!! :T:T It's a celebration for ALL!
Good to see you on again Jo, and helping everyone too.I hope all's well with you. Keep smiling and stay strong!
Another wonderful day over folks, another great weekend to look ahead to, and each day is another step closer to a very much healthier YOU!!! Stay strong all and be so very proud of all you're doing, it takes strong and determined to get to where you are, be thrilled to bits!! :j :T

Hi all,
Popped back to let you know the results of the COPD.....thankfully I don't have it:j:j:j
It is uncontrolled Asthma.
The test for COPD is called a spirometry test..it is a machine that you blow in and it prints all the results.Unfortunately nothing can reverse COPD but my results had improved slightly since december.:T:T
The biggest shock was that my lung age(even though improved) is 68 years:eek::eek::eek:
Now I have to have a steroid inhaler 2 puffs twice a day for 3 months followed by 1 puff twice a day for the following 3 months and then go back again....it will be interesting to see my results then....hopefully should be a few stone lighter and a lot fitter0 -
That's great news Taxi, the non smoking will improve your health very quickly too, well done
