A blogger :j- but I guess you are not going to let us know how to find you. I waste too much time in the day reading blogs; it is addictive and takes my mind off other things like ..... smoking ..... running amok with an axe :)

Too easy to blame hormones, choille. Has this dissatisfaction with your life evolved since becoming a non-smoker? I posted recently about the "black holes"; an emptiness opening up before me; a feeling of unease. In the last few weeks, I have experienced a desperate urge to sell the house, buy a campervan and head into the sunset. [ might even invite OH along if he gives up the cigars :rotfl:]

Hi Oldreekie - my website/blog is accessible from my profile.

Yes - in the main I do feel very angsty since stopping smoking although I do think I am now perimenopausal since stopping smoking eeeek! Must go & get a blood test I suppose.

Yes _ it does mean that I have a sore throat - from all the shouting at OH poor lamb.
I feel as if I've been in a bubble in some ways - hard to explain. Great that the weather - although snowing in bits is better & I am outside for a lot of the day makes things easier.
I have to go in 3 weeks & get most of my teeth removed - eeeeeek. That is as a result of smoking & was an incentive for me stopping - although too late to save my teeth. God I think I'm having a major mid life crisis but on the whole I am good & certainly hauling old tree limbs up the croft doesn't reneder me wheezing like punctured bagpipes.

    All the best

So very many congratulations MumOf2!!!!! :T:T I'm so thrilled you came back to tell us of your success, though it honestly doesn't surprise me at all as you were so very determined to BEAT it, and beat it you did!!! :D You sound so delighted and proud Mumof2, it's such a joy to read of all the pleasure it's given you ...to say nothing of the stasts above and £925.58 saved!!!! :T PLEASE keep coming back as regularly as you can, as aside from what you feel, it does wonders for "quitters in progress" and really gives them added incentive to continue and get to that goal!! Great news Mumof2 ...a very proud Mum indeed!!!:j All the very best.

    Hi All,

I'd like to introduce myself to the thread please :)

I gave up smoking on Sunday afternoon. mainly due to the fact I actually could not afford to spend that money on puffing it all away! I may aswell burn a fiver, and chuck a quid down the drain everytime..!

Also a good incentive is having an older woman in the office that actually looks like a leather handbag :) and smells even worse..

So I have been using the method of not using patches/gum anything like that, purely taking mints and boiled sweets with me everywhere. Keeping the cigs in my handbag for comfort I suppose, but not touched one. Mornings and evenings seem to be the hardest times for me. And what's hard is also trying to come out of a routine, of having one as soon as I wake up with my cup of coffee and a few before bed to get me through the night! Having trouble with sleeping at the moment, but I'm sure those things will pass- it's still early days. Usually smoked 10 - 15 a day.

Not really noticing the savings so far, but as soon as this month out the way going to set up a " fag fund " which will help with my deposit for my first house!

This thread seems a good place to view thoughts so hope you don't mind me dropping by.

Thanks Sue for the PM it was fantastic, lots of info and also thanks to all the others who have posted on here with tips for me

Now for the bad news - I didn't do it today - I can't stop if DH is still smoking - there are fags in the house that need to be smoked - I'm very annoyed with myself for not having more will power but I just can't do it if they are around so I've asked DH to come up with a date for when he wants to stop - sometime soon though - and then I'll come back on to tell you - it will be in the next week or two as I really have had enough of it but as I've said, there needs to be NO fags in the house - I'm quite good at not buying them when I've quit before.

Sorry folks - got my hopes up a bit and I've dashed them to pieces, but I'm not a quitter [lol] and will be back very soon

I'm also very impressed with the support you show each other so thats another reason why I'll be back

I wonder if you still ingesting nicotine is making you feel as you do OR, mightn't be, but possible, though I never know quite when you're serious and when you're not!

    Hi SueUU

Oh, I am deadly serious ... just trying to keep it light-hearted. :) The nicotine is keeping a lid on things and long may it last. It is nowhere as bad as last year when I tried to do it "cold turkey" .... bearable/manageable at the moment all due to you wonderful folk. And the NRT. And the chocolate. And the funny little yellow people :j

choille, that is "extreme" living! I have just had a quick glance and will go back. What a wonderful country we live in ~ pity it is so cold. Not good news about your teeth. I do hope you are looked after and given masses of support. You have enough to deal with at present .... so it is extra fantastic that you have stopped smoking. What willpower.:T

    Welcome freightexec2009 and good luck!

Hi helen jelly, why not stay around and just read each day? It may help to strenghthen your resolve. I read for about 3 months before taking the plunge. IRWS and Mumof2 helped to convince me that it was possible.

Congratulations Mumof2 - you have done so well!

Welcome back Andy. Better luck this time. Just remember your mates will probably secretly envy you if you quit. I am coming up to a year now and I never think of smoking - the only time I do is when I spot this thread in my CP and call in to have a nosey!

Andy, the door is ALWAYS open for those who don't quite make it to come on in and have another go. I just think it's great that folk do come back, it's the ones who don't that I worry about. Take it a day at a time ....and try to keep off of nights out whilst you're still vulnerable. One thing to remember is that in general, chaps seem to get through it all far easier than women. Food for thought there!

freightexec2009, a very warm welcome to you and ....all being well, a healthy life ahead! :D On reading your post first I thought we had a chap with a bit of a thing for the older woman and her handbag - phew! Thank Heavens for that! ;) We never mind wannabe quitters dropping by, you're more than welcome, if ever we can help we'll gladly do so. If you're having a bad day, or a good one, sometimes it really helps to write all about it, any time, please come and join us.

One thing that struck me from your post was the mornings and evenings being the hardest times to break and "trying to come out of a routine". We all have had "our times" to get over, and generally it's far, far easier if you can change the routines involved with each of yours. Would it help changing from coffee to tea/drinking chocolate? First thing in the morning head for the shower, clean your teeth, a quick walk, plunge (not literally please) into eating breakfasts or doing jobs ...anything that'll help you to help yourself at such times. Take the dog for a walk, if you haven't got one, buy a lead and play a great game of pretence! The sleeping problems will soon wane, it affects most of us so isn't unusual. Keep strong and focused as this CAN be done and you're following in the footsteps of thousands who achieved their goals! Many on this thread too!! :D You could do worse than come to the "Sealed Pot Challenge" (see my sig below) for your " fag fund ", it really does help. We wish you well, see you soon.

I agree with oldreekie Helen, do keep coming and reading through the posts on the thread, and tell your DH that it's all too often the men that get through it so much easier. Don't worry about not having quit when you hoped you would, but whilst you're feeling as you do, then do try to encourage your DH whilst the feelings strong for you. IF your DH decides he's not quite ready yet then why not ask him if he could please hide the fags from view and possibly smoke outside or in another room. That alone could so quickly encourage him to quit. Whatever happens Helen, keep with us as we want you fit and healthy too!!! ;) See you on the other thread.

You really do give me a giggle at times oldreekie. :) Still, you're winning through and have done so well for a good while now, and it's really lovely to see you helping others so much, an excellent sign of promise!!!

Hi there larmy, whether it's being nosey or anything else, it's good to see you pop in. :D Getting so close to that year now!

All the very best for another successful day everyone. Keep strong and do things that make you feel good, it helps a lot when you do. Water, fruit and veg and exercise! :D

  • Hi all

Just checking in to say that I'm still a non smoker. Feeling much better than last week. A lot more energy and a few people have told me I'm looking well. Still coughing like a 60 year old miner but hopefully that will stop soon! The election is a big distraction and I'm hardly thinking about smoking at all, in fact I can't believe how little I'm missing the fags this week. Hope I'm not heading for a mighty fall, it can't be this easy.

Good luck everyone and well done!
