Hi bluedog
I know that feeling so well, I am not going to lecture you as I don't know what your "shocking revelations" were.
I remember the last time I stopped, there was a little gremlin in my head telling me that if smoking was the only bad thing I did then I was not such a bad person. I don't drink (much), gamble, do drugs or beat my wife and kids and so what is wrong with smoking, it is my one pleasure in life.
It is all lies, nicotine is that gremlin, don't believe the little b********.
We are better than that!
Good luck, you can do it this time.

Just popping in to say:
Unfortunately the domestic issues are not resolved nor likely to be so I will just have to keep battling away with the smoking.
I know smoking won't help and keep telling myself that, my daughter is home from uni at the weekend and her presence will help me as she is one of the main reasons for me stopping.
I haven't stopped stopping, IYSWIM, and am having some real battles in my head about it. I absolutely refuse to go back to 20 a day but right now I just feel too tired to be able to find the willpower not to have one. I feel quite pathetic really. We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -
Thank you Sue-UU, Larmy16 and Waccoe for all the words of support .
Larmy- I've only been taking the tablets for two days and can't tell any real difference in desire to smoke or enjoyment of a cigarette yet but the Doc did say the Zyban may take a week or so to start to work (am not sleeping much and have less of an appetite- the latter is a bit of a bonus!!:rotfl:). Did you smoke on the tablets for the first week? Did you try to cut down in this week?
Waccoe- Well done for keeping it up! How many days smoke free are you? You should update your signature- I know I will as soon as I've had a smoke free day... It'll be a proud moment!

Hi Emily
Thanks for the reply and the update on Zyban.
I am 20 days into being a non-smoker, I do update my letterhead every day.

Hi Everyone!
Currently a smoker, but preparing to kick the habit! Ive not got a great deal of tobocco left and am not intending to cross the channel to buy anymore after its gone.
Im sick of the waking up in the mornings feeling wheezy, but i must admit im quire scared about the thought of not smoking (hope that makes sense!)
My question is! - Do I have to see a GP to get a prescription for patches/gum/zyban etc? I really dont want to be bothering my Dr when imsure she has greater things to deal with. Are the drop in centers able to issue these items?0 -
Hi powerful_Rogue
You don't need to see your Doctor, just make an appointment with the nurse at your surgery.

Bad luck Amelia, though I hope things will soon improve for you. I know your young lass is influential over your smoking, one day you'll be able to do it for her, for you mostly though. All the best Amelia, keep it as low as you can and all best wishes for things to go well.

A very warm welcome to the thread powerful_Rogue! I really do hope you'll be able to stop smoking and quit for life - YOURS!! I've sent you a PM, in that it helps explain just why we get so scared of preparing to stop, I think "it being like a sort of friend and us grieving over it" just about sums it up. Also, we can't imagine life without it; how will we cope when stress kicks in or when we make phone calls and always need that extra 'strength' beside us etc? Truth is PR, we cope wonderfully well once we see just how easily we can get out lives back together - the way they were before we took us this ridiculous addiction. As Andrew (waccoe) says, you don't need to see your Dr, just make an appointment with the cessation Nurse or go and see your local Pharmacist, but IF you don't have one then see if your local Tesco has such a person at their pharmacy. You just might find it better to have someone to see each week, to chat with about how you're doing, to check your Carbon Monoxide levels too. The CM levels go down very, very quickly too! All the very best with stopping PR and no matter what you think now, you CAN give it up!! Always stay strong and focused!
I see you're still doing exceptionally well Andrew, marvellous!
Well done everyone, keep reminding yourselves of why you're quitting, letting yourselves know you CAN DO IT too and you WILL!!!:T

For Emilyka. I think I just smoked for a couple of days and then I just wanted to stop - I was so tired of the battle with nicotine, that I was thrilled to be using the Zyban and it really really did work and it was easy to quit.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Hi Sue,
Many thanks for the PM, some very informative information.
Just phoned up the East Kent quit line, and its an actual group course you have to attend each week - which to be honest just isnt for me. Also working shift work wouldnt be practicable.
Also the first session is just about talking, you dont get any of the tools to help you quit until the second session.
I was just hoping I could pop along, get the zyban/champix or patches and be left to my own devices. Looks like it may have to be cold turkey now, which in fact is putting me off the whole idea.
I thought these quite advisors were there to make it easy!0 -
Hi powerful_Rogue
Please don't try cold turkey. I just made an appointment with the stop smoking nurse at my Doctor's surgery, I asked her what my options were, I chose patches and walked out with a prescription. I have not looked back, 3 weeks later I am typing this as a non smoker.
Make an appointment!
