Pleased to hear you are feeling better waccoe

Yes, it does help to write it down and no, you are not boring anybody :)

You could be helping someone who is going through the same stage as you.

Well done on the 22 days :T:T:T

The perfect words and advice oldreekie! :T

That's the idea of this thread waccoe so people are able to write it all down and get things 'out of their systems', 'off your chest' or whichever phrase you prefer, it really does do us all good and not just with smoking either.

I agree with your Dr. It makes perfect sense for most folk to be anxious on having given up, it's something major that's happening, but somehow we hope our bodies and minds will stand up to it all and for most people they do. However, there are a lot of folk affected by a 'fog', or 'black cloud' which feels like, but isn't depression as most people refer to it. Yes, we feel 'low' but it's a totally different 'low' than we're used to ~ but we do still have the affects of ncotine messing with our heads, it's hardly any wonder we feel anxious or low. As your Dr says though, only use the Diazapam IF you really need it, For now though, as oldreekie advises, turn to exercise! With quitting being a 'mind' thing it's vital for all quitters to get as much exercise as is possible. A lot of them say "I already do it every day", but whoever you are, you really do need to do more! So, if you've been a couch potato then a brisk walk as often as possible will really, really help, but if you're already a walker/jogger then up the pace of walking/jogging and go fast, or go further, or maybe do a workout to a DVD at home as well as a walk or jog. Once you get those endorphins released into the body, you'll feel like a different person ~ in very many ways!! ;)

BTW waccoe, bluedog has some really great advice for you here: "If I feel low, I try to think of all the good things I have going on, take time to do something that gives me a buzz (listening to birds singing is a favourite of mine) and basically be nice to myself and about myself which helps to lift me up."

bluedog, great advice above for waccoe and any and all other quitters! I'm with you on the birds too, a real delight especially at this time of year! Very well done at least you've got the ball rolling! Incidentally, if you're having little success with the smoking nurse at your Drs then have a word with your Dr. Just nicely tell him/her what the problem is), I'll bet your Dr will soon have you where the help or brings the help to you! Ours is marvellous like that, though I think most of them want their patients to quit. I do hope you soon get your health problems sorted out, though being a non-smoker will really help you!

All the best all, ..................was that you who just ran past me waccoe?!!!!!! :p See you later all.

Message for Waccoe. Hang in there. Don't let that old fox nicotine decieve you. He senses you have kicked the habit and is going in for the kill. You will feel a lot more depressed if you give in and then you will have to start the whole quit off again.

This often happens around the three week mark and sometimes you will have to white knuckle it. How about getting absorbed in a book or watching a film you love. You can do it - just keep going and tell that horrible chemical to Fox Off.

PS. You are doing really well!

Once again, thanks for the encouragement.
I have come to the conclusion that the craving has been replaced with a feeling of anxiety. I take this as a sign of progress. I put off having my first Diazepan until 4pm and it works, the anxiety is a lot less and very little craving. I am really going to save these tablets until I am desperate because I am not a tablet person normally but if it can lift me from the gloom of earlier today, they will do for me.
I haven't given in and I won't give in and some of this is down to you lot, thanks.

  • Popped down to Boots this morning and ive got to go back next Friday for all my checks etc. I mentioned about Champix and Zyban and she said I would need to see the Dr first as I have to undergo a medical and check if im suitable, so I popped along to the Dr's and im booked in next Thursday!

I stuck a repeat prescription in for an astham inhaler at the start of the week, and when I went to collect it they said the Dr wanted to see me first, so seeing as im going to be quitting smoking, they will talk to me about it on Thursday. The only reason I need it is because I get a bit wheezy in the mornings - one of the reasons I want o quit. Im also going to start running. Always wanted to, but because of the smoking it was always a bit difficult!

    9 days - champix

    Hi all,

just to introduce myself, i have smoked for 15yrs, started late twenties, how stupid is that !!! Have tried giving up in the past using nicotine replacements, the longest i went was 6 weeks.

As you'll see i'm now on champix, for me it is a wonder pill, i have managed a very long weekend shift on Sunday where i would smoke up to 25 cigs, even thoug i was offered them during the day i didn't have any craving for them. I have also found it easy when having a few drinks.

I know champix doesn't suit all, and yes i do get the sick feeling after taken them and broken sleep, but hey i'm not smoking.

I took the first tablet on the sunday night, had 10 cigs monday, 6 on tuesday then just the one on the wednesday. The last cig i had had no enjoyment to it.

To get the tablets i met the nurse and explained that i'd tried inhalers, patches and gum, she gave me a prescription there and then.

The one good thing about champix is that your giving up without nicotine replacement. When i blew in to the monitor yesterday i was down to a reading of 2!!!

    As i say doesn't suit all....but definately me....so far.

    Good luck all.

hey waccoe, after one failed attempt of using will power alone i decided to read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking book..

I've got to say I never believed it could work but read about on here so decided to give it a go.. it doesn't preach how bad smoking is or that it's going to kill you or anything like that.. it more looks at reasons for smoking & then ways to remove them..

I'm probably not making that much sense but for example, I used to say I smoked cos I enjoy the 'taste'..that's actually so not true! I got used to the taste through the perseverance of smoking!

I'd honestly recommend it to anyone..& I still have my social circle of 15+ that all smoke & I'm the only one who doesn't now!:j

Didn't realise that was going to be such a long post, sorry!
