The Giving Up Smoking Thread!! Part 2

Hi everyone. I have had half a dozen start stops so far this year. I have made statements on here that I have stopped again etc etc but keep failing miserably. I patched up on Sunday afternoon so I am about 40 hours in. I bought Alan Carr's easyway off ebay on CD and I have been listening to this avidly in the car. It is very clever and I find myself nodding to everything being said. He hits the nail on the head for me when he talks about the "Fear" of giving up. I find this very true - I always get worried when I am looking at the last smoke in the packet - how will I cope without a smoke? If anyone is like me and keeps starting/stopping I have found his advice very reassuring. I think it was £5 very well spent.
Good luck to you all, I love this forum as we are not alone and I have always found talking a bout it very reassuring and love hearing about others going through the same situation.0 -
Damn !!!!!! and !!!!..........i smoked
Femme, dont give up giving up... I slipped up last Tuesday otherwise id be on something like day 23 now, but instead im on day 7. the nicorette minis are really helping beat the cravings as they seem to give me a instant fix. Although if im completely honest when i had my slip up i didnt even have a craving as such... i just missed the feel of smoking!
Wish you all the best to carry on your packing in the evil weed.0 -
Thanks for the replies guys, it was only one last night when I was stressed. Still feeling stressed today but havent smoked as such, DP went and got me an inhilator, ok so not the best solution but better than the fags and to be fair its working!
Its a long slow struggle this eh, wish Id never started!!0 -
Hi Femme - I hear you. It is hard work & difficult.
I have cut the tablets into quarters today & will have half a tablet a day.
I am 'using', as well as the half tablet sugar free gum & trying to have a plan when getting into a stressful situation.
I missed my call from the cessation officer yesterday & tried again today but missed her again.
Feeling stressed but managing & thinking of just another day without a ciggie without thinking too far ahead as still feeling stressed with just other stuff.
All the best.0 -

Femme, a really big well done on managing to only have the one.......and the guts to admit having it !:o I think you'll be really glad you didn't 'backslide' all the way and have to go through the whole psyching up to quitting process again.
Choille, I'm thinking of designing and patenting a big fag shaped punch bag for those stressful or strong craving moments. Or a puffy primal scream pillow?
My counsellor tried some visualisation stuff with me which was quite good. I had to pick the most relaxing place I'd been that I could think of and sit down and imagine myself there. I was quite suprised at how well it can work, along with deep even breathing. I quite enjoy my leisurely strolls down a palm-fringed beach in Sri Lanka:):)

Morning all. If I get to 9pm tonight I will have completed 28 days smoke free. It feels like a miracle. If you had asked me 29 days ago I would not have thought I could do it but here I am.
I think it is finally getting to be a bit easier, though I am not getting complacent.
Choille and Femme I think the three of us have all found it particularly difficult and have had to work very hard every day. We can do it though. One day at a time, lots of sugar free gum and BREATHE slowly and deeply when stressed. We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -

So you should be. I remember StClair you were so worried about quitting, as we all are. I think Allen Carr says its the cigs that are causing the anxiety in the first place but you have to get through that barrier to find out it is really true.
I have problems come and go but I am so glad to not have a smoking problem!
Well done you.:TGrocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

Hi everyone. Yes, I am still around and still not smoking - WELL DONE everyone of you! :j Yes, the occasional craving rears its ugly head but I have got out of the habit of smoking now.

But....I do have a bit of a problem. Every Friday I visit the pharamist and blow into the CO2 machine and receive a "well done". It is good for the morale and to keep me focused, I need that weekly check in. The first few weeks the reading was between 0 and 3. Last Friday it was 8 and I was told that if it is above 6 this coming Friday, I would not have access to the programme. I'm pretty miffed because they must think I am lying about not having smoked. All I can think is that the CO2 levels are high due to my sleep apnoea. 2 weeks ago I had to send my mouth splint back to the orthodontist for adjustment and it has not arrived back - lost in post. More impressions were taken yesterday but it could be a few days before the new splint is ready.
So, please cross your fingers that the reading on Friday is below 6 - if not, I am going to raise hell ....well ....call my doctor and the local PCT.
Keep up the good work. :j:j:jI am a non-smoker :j last cigarette 10th February 20100 -
