Thanks ameliarate, I actually feel much better for the rant! and lol at you and the menthol that really did make me laugh :D I know where i'd like to stick the menthol at the minute.

However, seriously I don't know whether I will go back next week I don't think we can do it through our GP's here you have to have a referral from a "councillor" - I'M NOT FEEEELING COUNCILED lol

Hi Emma - I could tell you what has happened to me these last 3 weeks since I stopped the fags & you would think I was making it up.

I don't want to start again. I am having to use all the tips that I have gleaned on here & from my session with the nurse & having to apply them as best I can.

The nurse I saw gave me a range of tips some of them I thought were crap so therefore I dismissed them because they wern't tools that I would use.
What you have to do is plan your staying stopped - whether that be stay in bed, stay at home, stay away from any shop that sells cigs - whatever. Fill yourself with chocolate , go cold turkey, patches, inhalator whatever you have decided is the best for you.
It is hard & will power is required. A craving will pass.
Tell yourself that it won't always be hard. It gets easier.
    All the best.

I reckon as long as we can laugh we are ok.

Stick with it, why should I be miserable on my own?

Emma, I guess these nurses and doctors see first hand the terrible end results of smoking and if they have never smoked, just cannot comprehend how someone would let such a drug control them.

Try not to let her comment get to you. I expect she meant it to show you the seriousness of the situation. The addict part of you will be looking for any excuse to get you to light up. That is your real enemy, not the nurse or counsellor.

I can remember during one of my quits, just hoping someone would say "oh just have a cigarette then - whats the problem", and instead they would say, oh j ust keep going. I could have hit them. I wanted an excuse to restart and then I could fool myself they had encouraged me!

Dont be fooled by that wily old nicotine. Well done anyway.

a very warm welcome bluebellbunny :T the desiscion to quit WILL be the best one you,ve ever made

You are stopping for ALL the reasons i decided to give up for NO LONGER DID I WANT TO BE A SMELLY SMOKER ...

The best advice i can give you is be as prepared as you can and keep reminding yourself of all the reasons why you want to stop when those awful cravings come a knocking at yuor door .

think of the times you want a smoke now and plan strategies to avoid those situations in the early days if you can or if you cant avoid them how you are going to deal with them

i used to crave a smoke first thing i even went outside whatever the weather and had my fag i cant believe it now .....i imagine myself huddled on doorstep in p.....ng rain trying to keep my fag wet while i got soaked !!! . what an evil addiction .....

anyhow i avoided this by not having coffee which i assosiated a fag with and changed my morning routine a little

i kept icy cold water in fridge whenever i felt craving and guzzled on that ( numbed my taste bugs and never felt like a smoke with an icy mouth . i reckon ice pops would do the same job

was determijned too not to put on weight ..(previous attempts my weight increased so again i was prepared for the ..." i need a treat cravings as i am not smoking " . I realise now that by giving up i wasnt loosing anyhthing or giving up anything but GAINING my freedom so i havent really felt deprived and needed to substitute cigs for a fancy piece . i have treated myself instead so lovely soft fruits and munched on those ( couldnt afford them before )

this thread has been a life line too ventilate your thoughts / rants whatever theres great support however you decide to quit

I wish you and others newly quitting all the best its not easy but it DOES GET EASIER i promise

i cant believe its nearly 10 weeks for me :j:j i rarely think of smoking and the thought of taking a puff repels me .. I continue to take one day at a time , it is havingn the right frame of mind others have described a "CLICK " moment and thats what has happened to me you have to WANT to stop and not feel like you should ..

Good luck and stay strong x x x
  • Thank you SOOO much jammy dodger! I have tomorrow to prepare then it's the day of reckoning! Yes, I am the same as you, wind, rain, snow, sleet, whatever, I am out there for my black coffee and two cigarettes first thing! Don't know if I can do without my morning coffee so am going to keep with it but if it gets too hard will have to give that up too but I suppose less caffeine is not a bad thing really! Also going to try have a little drink in the evenings (I don't usually) so that I stop associating it with smoking so that when I do go out for a big night I don't fall at the first hurdle! Have done it before but obviously have never stuck with it - DOH! I think it's when the novelty of being a 'non smoker' wheres off and you see everyone else smoking around you then you start to think 'why shouldn't I? One can't hurt' and although I didn't even enjoy it, that was that and I had a packet of cigarettes burning a hole in my pocket that obviously just HAD to be smoked and it was GAME OVER! It's mostly boredom the reason I smoke so much now, especially in the evening, don't really know what I'm going to do about that but I guess I'll have to make a plan and perhaps get a hobby......maybe learn how to crochet, always quite fancied that so maybe now is the time, there's plenty of old ladies near where I live and am sure they would love to help me out....... :)
Thanks again and I will be back Monday evening to let you all know how my first day was  :rotfl: xxx
