Hi all
Ive had abit of a crisis going on but, think I am ready to give my full attention to giving up. Well done everybody you have been doing great. Ive had a few health problems recently. Im hoping I can carry on from where I left off. I hope we can all suceed on this journey together.
To the lady that had the choice of cigs or food (im sorry im terrible with names), you made the right decision in choosing food. Good luck to love.
I have terrible sleep problems when I give up but thats a small price to pay and is only temporary. Im also getting terrible nightmares on the patches besides taking them off at night (they are the 24hr ones) can anyone suggest anything?
The sister I went to see for my patches was really encouraging and put me in the right frame of mind. Its really nice when you get somebody encouraging. A nurse I went to see years ago was positively horrible. I dont know why she was in the job in the first place.

As I said in the title bar, the blessed PC's been up the creek yet again! Same old cursor whizzing lark and it really exasperates me something awful. Never mind, yet again we THINK it's fixed .....we'll see!
A warm welcome to tired mum and emilyka and any othernew members in search of a far better and healthier life! We all wish you the very best of luck and that you'll stay for the duration. For now though, take it a day at a time and reward yourselves on your great successes. An hour, a day may only seem a tiny step to a non-smoker, but to all of us who are in the process of quitting or have done so, we know full well that every successful hour is a FANTASTIC achievement! :j I've sent you PMs, please read them through. All the very, very best to a smoke-free life from here on!!
I haven't had time to go through the missed posts as yet, but I noted oldreekie giving some cracking advice out, I also saw how far you've come on your journey OR, fantastic news, very well done indeed!!! :T

Very well done Jojo, it's good to see you reforming yourself and starting off again. You CAN do this, everyone CAN!!
I must have a read through later on, but for now EVERYONE, you're doing so very well and it's good to see the determination you have and the encouragement you're giving out to each other. Keep on battling away ALL, you'll get there if you stay as you are now.

Hi everyone and well done!
I wrote a few weeks ago about my OH going in for an op and wanting to give up smoking at the same time - well he had his last cig at 11pm on Thurs night, had his op yesterday. He got through yesterday - I think the general anaesthetic helped (jokes - not recommending it!!!). On the way home from the hospital he wanted to stop for cigs but I got him to try a NiQuitin Mini with the promise that I would go and get him cigs later if he just tried that first, so it got him home anyway. He says they are disgusting though and won't be taking any more of them... Stocked up on gum, tic tacs and chewy sweets...
He is doing really well, and obviously the fact that he has to keep his leg up means that he can't go too far and we are miles from the shops, so fingers crossed!
I know I'll not get him to come on here, and I'm not even mentioning smoking until he mentions it first, I'm just trying to keep him distracted with cups of tea!0 -
Hi everyone. Well, went to the pharmacy today for my check in, blew into the machine and it was ....... 2 ! What a relief. There has to be something wrong with machine for it to have been so high last week or maybe it is my technique!
I sympathise with you, haloona, on the weight issue. I am not eating any more than I did when smoking and yet, my middle is expanding, jeans are uncomfortable and I feel like a balloon. Not happy about this at all. I have always been on the skinny side and do not want to put on weight. Due to disability, I can't exercise so am not too sure what to do.
Yes, it seems very unfair, doesn't it? Apparently, I read somewhere, smoking speeds up your metabolism, so when you stop it slows so some of us will put on weight even without eating more
My smoking cessation lady is also the diabetic and healthy eating counsellor here and she has a group of ex-smokers who are on a healthy eating program. They were doing aquafit as well which I fancied, but the classes have stopped.
Are you able to swim/near a pool?0 -
Hi haloona, yes I read about the metabolism slowing down, too! Very unfair. Sadly, not able to swim either. I refuse to put on weight  and this is what added to the depression last time I [STRIKE]gave up[/STRIKE] stopped smoking. Was hoping that the NRT would stop it from happening. Apples and oolong tea for me all day! What makes me cross are the people who say not to worry about the weight until I've cracked the non-smoking - weight can be lost afterwards. Well, actually noooo, it canNot; not at my age and level of disability. We all know what weight around the middle leads to
Can you guess I am not in a good mood this morning?Jeans are too tight and the highlights I had done yesterday are awful. Now, someone has to take me back to the hairdressers, this morning, for it to be sorted ...and I wanted to potter in the garden. The girl who did them sounded a bit annoyed when I called this morning...so what.....it is my hair and my money. So, I am struggling and would love a cigarette ...but came on here instead.:)
I love these emoticons
I am not an "emoticon" type of person
Perhaps I have changed since becoming a non-smoker?
OH is worried because I joined Facebook last week - so not meI am a non-smoker :j last cigarette 10th February 20100 -

I know it won't be like this forever though, well fingers crossed anyway!
Hi and welcome Bluebell, it WON'T be like this forever, everyday these feelings will become further apart and not so strong. You have done fantastically well, please don't waste all the hard work you've put indecided that tonite when i had a choice food for the family or fags that i had to give up
WelcomeI have been in your situation many a time in the past and will admit to sometimes going for the fags and feeding the family a whole host of random stuff out of the cupboard that wouldn't normally be seen on the same plate! I hope you feel strong today to keep going? xx

Good for you for being so supportive :T I hope that he continues with his quit and things become easier for you both.
Hello to everyone else  welcome to all the newbies and congratulations to all those that are doing so fantastically well :T:T:T
I've (like Choille) had a fortnight of events that you couldn't have even written and not been on here hardly at all so just had to catch up with the last 15/20 pages on here, taken me over an hour
Sue hope your pooter probs are sorted.
Thanks to the 'oldies' popping back and giving us updates.
I love popping back onto this thread, everyone is so supportive and understanding.

Hello everybody.......can I join you too ??
I've not had a cigarette now since Tuesday evening ........so on my 4th day now.
I had been smoking for around 35 yrs & just lately I was getting through at least 30 a day.......sometimes more .I am so sick of the way smoking has controlled my life for so long.....to the point where I won't do things/go places 'cos I can't have a fag......how sad is that ?
I have tried so many times before to pack it in but never lasted more than a few hours.I am chuffed to bits that I've done 4 days....can't believe it really:)
I'm on Champix which I find helps with the cravings, but I am still finding it hard, for such a long time just about everything I did was punctuated with a fag and I just feel a bit odd & strange & can't stop thinking about them.......I'm hoping this will get easier as the days go by (please someone tell me it will).
Like some of you I am dreading that I might put loads of weight on.....I managed to lose nearly a stone this time last year & really don't want to put it all back on again.
I've not had chance to read the whole thread yet but will when I have chance.
Good luck everyone !!
