    Day 8 of Champix

Im just watching celebrity quitters from last night. Here the link for anyone else who missed it.

    http://demand.five.tv/Episode.aspx?episodeBaseName=C5150110001

Watching this too and last night was awful, that poor guy George I think his name was, only in his 60`s but he looked at least 80! He was literally wasting away from smoking he was soo thin and had to lug around a container with oxygen in it to breath. Confirmed to me even more that I do not want to be a smoker any more!
Welcome to all the newbies, this is the place to be to get help with your quit you wont regret it !:T

    keep strong :) xx

Day 7 of Champix and day 2 of my quit. Because i have experience of champix i know its not a miracle and still takes will power which i dont have a lot of. I normally smoke alot first thing in the morning so this morning i'm going a little bit mad. Im trying to keep as busy as i can and everytime i think of smoking i say NO and go have a drink of water.

stclair as you can see im on champix too and understand what your saying about they dont seem to work. Once you get too 2 tablets a day it really does kick in. I thought it was going to be a miracle drug but its just an aid like all the others. Good luck for friday.

Thank you captainspam im really determind to quit. Tomorrow will be my last day of being a smoker, im kind of excited but nervous too.

I know champix is not a miracle drug ive have got some will power to help me along too.

I stopped biting my finger nails after 30 years so im sure ive got enough determination to quit smoking after 19 years :D

I certainly hope your housing thoughts won't ever come to fruition larmy, that really would be taking things a step too far....wouldn't it??? Never know though!

Well done with quitting and slimming world janiebaby!! The CM reading too!!!:T:j

Have to agree MumOf2, what a terrific match! He really did deserve to win!! Congratulationson 2 months freedom from fags, right??:TThe weight loss is so good too!!! Lets hope you soon lose the cold.

Welcome aboard captainspam! Bad luck with your previous attempts, maybe this is the time.....!

Welcome misgrace! Treat your sneaky one as a blip and carry on as though it hadn't happened. You'd obviously done so well to get to where you were so just keep on going - but take no notice of any other daft thoughts!

Soo good to read how you feel after quitting Mollie, GREAT news!!:j

21 days for you ceebs, brilliant news!!! :T
Congratulations AnnaMonkey, good to see you and that's a great long while you've quit for!!! :T:T:T Thanks a lot for coming back and recommending AC's book, urging others on too!

Good to see you back and trying again shadydaz, though so sorry to hear of your mum, I do hope she recovers well. Good to see you back again LEWKI!! Oh dear, I well remember you with your dreams, whathisname had the same trouble (or delight!;)) can't think of his name, though if he sees you here....look out!!! We're in for some fun girls!!! ;)

Congratulations Fee, you're doing marvellously!! You too glo!!! Just read your last post glo, please don't run your life according to the demands set by your youngsters. IF they're old enough then enjoy the holiday with your sister. To have 10 will hardly be a blip and you'll be back to square one so please don't have them all. Will it help anyway? No! Will it resolve the situation? No, it'll only make you feel a darn sight worse at having given in. Youngsters will, in time, make their own lives - you have yours to live now - healthily!:)

Good for you stclair, you CAN do it so don't be afraid of the fear, look forward to far better health!:D

Please, could everyone put their posts on with the amount of days/weeks/months and method used in the title bar, it would be such a help to us ALL as it's so difficult to remember who's on what and for how long and makes a real difference with queries etc. Thanks a lot folks. :)

    Keep on striving everyone!

  • Hi everyone

Just a quick note to say well done to everyone with their quits. It's totally possible to quit and be happy, happier even than you were before, all you need to do is stick with it. This thread has been invaluable for me in providing support, motivation and inspiration so thank you all for that.

I'm trying to decide how to celebrate a month of nicotine freedom. A day out somewhere? Something new to wear? I'm not sure but I'm going to do something. At one month, this will become the longest quit I've ever managed in a lifetime of trying to quit. I'm excited!

    Good luck everyone.

Thanks for the lovely post as always Sue,

Glo - am so sorry I didn't get to your post sooner, wish I'd been around to talk you out of it - how are you hun?
Here's some fresh hugs to keep the air sweet around you (((((pure air))))). Teenagers can drive you nuts at time - especially ones with ADHD (have had that particular t-shirt, and thankfully have now taken it off!!).

Pse squish up any fags you've got left and come back to the good side of life :p

Looking forward to hearing from you xx

ive treated myself to a nice cosmetic mirror and some clinique stuff , i use clinique anyway , but it was a bit pointless using it and smoking because i was ruining any effect it had !!!!!!

  • Hi guys
I've been lurking here for a while reading posts which have helped me a great deal. Well done to everyone who is quitting too.
I'm at a dark point in my life just now, my boyfriend of almost 4 years walked out on me this week so probably not the best time to quit smoking but I just feel that I have to strive twards something. Im deeply in love with him still but need to focus my mind on something other than him. As I type this I really feel like I could murder someone. I'm dying for a ciggy but I'm not going to let smoking beat me.

Keep up the good work everyone

Thanks, Sue, for another super supportive post for all of us. Yes, you remembered well - 2 months!

    Smober: 2M 17H 34M
    Not spent: £382.65
    Not smoked: 1,234

Janie - what a good idea to buy the cosmetic mirror and make up :-)

Det - how terrible for you (sending a virtual hug). Please do keep going though - crying, brisk walking, going window shopping (try on as many things as you can!), drinking water, writing down the many many benefits of not smoking - anything not to have one. You WILL feel so much better for it.

What does anyone else think about the Celebrity Quitters programme on Channel 5? I do wish they didn't edit it to show the stereotypical cessationists getting bad tempered, just dying (great pun) for a cigarette, aching and moaning and whinging, etc. etc. then grabbing a patch for a transdermal nicotine hit, inhaling nicotine from a plastic cigarette, snorting nicotine up the nose, and so on. Even Chloe Madeley has started ingesting nicotine. It's almost as if they're brain washed to act as they think cessationists should act!

    Rant alert:
imho government propaganda has a lot to answer for. They don't really want everyone to give up, they want people to keep on trying to give up with the aid of nicotine replacement interventions and going back to smoking, then trying to give up again with the aid of nicotine replacement interventions... If everyone stopped, the reduction in tax revenue (both from buying the cigarettes and from corporate tax on profits from tobacco and pharmaceutical companies) also the additional state pensions paid out to people living longer and cost of chronic health and residential care in old age would cripple the economy. Stats on health care vs tax take (sorry, don't have reference any more) - the additional cost to the economy of treating smoking-related illnesses is one quarter of the total additional revenue from just the tax smokers pay on cigarettes (i.e. excluding corporate tax on company profits). So they continue to peddle the idea that everyone who stops needs nicotine replacement to keep their tax take as high as possible.

Anyway, will get back to doing some work in the knowledge that I'm no longer making a daily contribution of £4.96 to government coffers for the 'pleasure' of coughing, smelling and standing outside in the cold and rain.

    MumOf2

P.S. Please don't think I'm having a go at anyone who uses NRT to help them give up smoking. I just wish the programme had presented different ways of stopping rather than just providing all of them with lots of nicotine delivery systems. A more balanced, varied message would have been welcome.
