The Giving Up Smoking Thread!! Part 2

Hi everybody, mind if I join? I've only read the two most recent pages of posts, but it's all so hauntingly familiar!!
I turned 50 in December and I've been smoking for just about 30 years. I've had a few attempts at stopping. The longest I ever managed wasn't even an attempt really - I was pregnant and fags made me feel sick. Why did I ever start again?
Anyway, I've been to see the very patient smoking cessation counsellor again and I'm having another bash with the inhalator. Had one for my last attempt, but apparently I wasn't using it enough i.e. using it like a cigarette and not taking enough puffs.
I seem to have a 3 week barrier, I don't know why. Last two attempts, I've fallen at the 3 week hurdle. Maybe I get tired of fighting the cravings or I'm missing the comfort of the routine or something, I just don't know. But I know to watch out for that time on this attempt and my counsellor says to phone or see her more then.
So I'm on Day Six now and still at what I call the Chewitt's monster stage i.e. eating everything in my path.
Hang on in there, y'all. off for another bowl of muesli.................that's only cos I ate all the Creme EggsNew CC starting balances for 2014: BC: £2780.00 (2717.45) MBNA: £2185.72 (2160.72)

I got some of those Niquitin minis from the Coop. Only taken two so far. Counsellor said try not to use them as they give you an 'instant hit' whereas with the inhalator it takes longer so you're training yourself to wait, then hopefully phase it out.
But, I did find them good for really, really bad, on the point of buying a packet cravings. Very strong minty taste, take ages to dissolve in your mouth and did seem to fight off the craving.New CC starting balances for 2014: BC: £2780.00 (2717.45) MBNA: £2185.72 (2160.72)

Hello hellneath - the goo's better than the fags, that's for sure! Cadbury sent me the most amazingingly fun link to a computer game all about cream eggs. I'll see if i can still find it, and if so, send you the linky so you can play.
Go Lewki - am keeping all things crossed for you for today, and wishing you a beautiful smoke free day x
Det Dawson - OMG!!! Sorry, but your ex sounds like a total and utter t***pot, and all I can say is I think you've had a very very very lucky escape from him, even though it doesn't feel like that at this precise minute. That was provocation in the extreme for sure! Well, you said it yourself, you want to be on the smoke free wagon, so climb aboard and we'll all make the bumpy journey together x
Hey Captain Spam  this must be day 4 for you! That's amazing - did you find the silk quit thingamy to see how much you've saved already??
Oooh, Janiebaby, what a fab idea, a lovely make-overy type thing. My skin is starting to glow a little more now, rather than the dullness too. Also, yes, what a fab secondry moneysaver - like you I don't need to wash my long hair every day now - I'm loving the freshness!
Hi Mumof2 - wow, look how much you've saved! I can't wait to see my figures jump up like that!!! I'm already feeling 'richer' with my wee save. I've not been watching the prog! Feels a bit too much like watching someone have their teeth pulled. However, will send them all virtual good luck vibes and hope it works for them.
Have a lovely fresh air day everyone xxxx0 -

Lol:-) Captain Spam, me too. I read somewhere that it takes about 6 mins to smoke one fag so the average smoker will have 2 hours 'extra' a day.
My 14 year old DS is being really supportive. He's wanted me to stop just about since he could talk and has lived with my withdrawal symptoms and failed attempts before.
Now, he's just giving me a very knowing look if I snap......or making me laugh. I was gonna treat myself to one of those cheapie Jean Patrique kitchen knife sets as my first no-fag day reward, but he told me to get something nice for myself.
So we settled on a silver charm bracelet. He's bought me the bracelet itself, and for every week I'm smoke free, I get to buy another charm for the bracelet.
Atsmaboy!!!!! :smileyhea
P.S. Have just been to see my counsellor and done the breathalyser thingy. My count was 14 last week before I stopped. Guess how much it is after 6 days.................................................

:eek::eek::eek: Thank goodness I didn't say this to my family the first week I'd given up - I had such horrific snappy moments, they'd probably have destroyed them on the spot, just in case I was prone to a bit of flinging :rotfl::rotfl:
I love yours and DS's idea better!0 -

Go Stclair:T:j:beer:! Well done this first day can be the most tricky but some people find it easy but as you say "be prepared" ! Bold got stuck on there for some reason! I hope it is easy for you but just keep coming on here if your struggling!
When I first gave up and was looking for support I would just select a random page and start reading it (plenty to choose from) It takes your mind off your craving I felt and sets you back on the straight and narrow! Im off to watch celeb BB but chin up your going great !!Smoke free since 16th Dec 2009
