Great news mrs-d!! You coped with the stressful day well and housework is always a great way of coping with stress. It also helps in making us feel even cleaner on the inside again. By now you'll have reached a fortnight free, though I won't say more about it until you actually tell us you got there!

    Well done ceebs!:D

Hi glo, no you're not the first one to say you've had a nicotine taste in the mouth, it could be to do with the chewing gum - is it Nicorette or a similar one that you have? If so that could be the reason if you've used nothing like it for a few days. Try an extra cleaning of the teeth, just gently. Teeth cleaning also helps anyone who's having cravings.

Such good news about the Champix stclair! It seems to be one of those you're either ok with or can't stand. Glad you're in the good camp! ;) Friday will be here soon enough and your new life will begin!:D

Please, could everyone put their posts on with the amount of days/weeks/months and method used in the title bar, it would be such a help to us ALL as it's so difficult to remember who's on what and for how long and makes a real difference with queries etc. Thanks a lot folks. :)

So far so good for almost all of you, and things in general sound so promising, and if that stays the case it'll be fantastic when you reach that glorious goal! Keep on striving and enjoy your Sunday whatever you do.

  • Made it 2 weeks now and it's been a while since I've been on here, which I think is a sign that I'm really getting over the need to smoke. I just don't think about it that much now.

A friend picked me up this morning and it was amazing how strong the smell of smoke was in his car like many of you have said - I had never noticed it before!

My big test is next week - I'm back in the UK for a week which invariably means that I'm going to be drinking (benefit of working in Arab states is they are normally completely dry due to Islam). How do people deal with this best? It will be hard as a lot of my friends smoke, psychologically I'm used to smoking when I drink, and well I'm going to have less self control!

    Any tips for this?

Well done to everyone that is stil going strong and everyone who is just starting - there are lots of us here now which proves it really can't be that difficult to quit!

  • I was very worried about the drinking thing as well.

I stopped on a Friday night and on the Tuesday went out for a drink. I was very dubious about whether to go out for a drink but reasoned that I had to get it out of the way at some point.

Only thing I really made a point of was making sure I didn't go to stand outside with anyone who was having one. After that I found that noticing the smell (like you mentioned in your friends car) seemed to do the trick of putting me off having one.

  • The smoking ban in pubs and restaurants is a god send to me and will hopefully help you too Desert Flyer. Going to stand outside is just not very sociable.

Also, go easy on the alcohol. I'm 3 weeks quit and have had one night out and the odd glass of wine since but at this early stage you really need to stay in control, I think.

Best of luck with it. Your drinks will all taste different too. Maybe try a new one to break the association?

Good idea - will give it a shot. Problem is I tend to make my way through every different type of drink on a night out anyway! :p

Maybe wine, I normally only drink it in the summer so could work.

Yay 2 weeks gone and I'm still smoke free!! DH still smokes but I think he'll join me soon.
Desertflyer you've done so well hope you stay strong next week. Just remind yourself that you don't want to smoke and that you don't need a stinky cigarette to enjoy your drink. You are a happy non smoker!
Good luck to us all. Keep strong.
