Tippytoes- You may not think it, but it's great news that you have got the cough! It is very normal at this stage of the progress, it is simply your body's way of getting rid of all the nasty stuff. It won't last more than a few weeks.

Stclair- Lots of people have given some very helpful advice on Zyban, here’s a little more:

It is not fully understood how Zyban works, however it roughly doubles your chances of a successful quit attempt.

You take one tablet daily for the first six days, then on day seven you increase to two tablets a day for the remainder of the 8 week treatment. However, if for some reason you do not feel ready to stop at 8 weeks, you can take it for a a little longer at the discretion of your doctor.

The idea is that you keep smoking for the first week (to enable the tablets to work), your quit day (the day you stop smoking) should be a day between day 7-14 after starting the course.

Like all medicines, Zyban may have side effects. The most common are insomnia and nausea. However, the only way to know how you will react to the medication is to try it.

    Best of luck.

Thanks for that roxanne it sounds very positive. Ive got my appointment at the clinic on Monday @ 2pm so ill discuss it with them in more detail.

Its sounds good that you only need to take 2 day afterwards as id be a nightmare at remembering to take them. I think ill be okay with zyban if I can cope with side effects for a few weeks. Im not keen on the insomnia though as I love my beauty sleep :D

If you have to take the tablets every 8 hours. If I took my first tablet at say 6.30 when I first get up and my 2nd at 15.30. I normally go to bed about 23.30 would i be more likely to sleep ok (sorry if it sounds a daft question)

As long as you leave a minimum of 8 hours between doses you should be fine. So that is absolutely right, the earlier you take the pill, the less likely it is that you will have trouble sleeping! And to combat the nausea, try taking the pills with a meal and a full glass of water.

Writing in blue because Im feeling blue. Been a few days since Ive made it on but thats just because the kids are back at school and life is returning to "normal"!
Tippytoes you are describing exactly how I feel, and I think you are about 1 day behind me in giving up. Its like Im bored with giving up now, oh how exciting it was at the start, how proud I was of myself etc etc, but its just gone now.
I think I need a boost, any ideas or suggestions will be gratefully received.

Hi FEE, sorry to hear how you're feeling, though you're not to different from anyone else in having such feelings. We all seem to get a great sense of euphoria at having started, continued a little ways then reaching a stage where things aren't quite so rosy.

Ask yourself why? Then write down all the positives and really think about each one, you health, pinker lungs, far better smelling hair, body, clothes. Others are sense of smell starting to improve, children who will be so very proud of your achievements now or later, depending on their ages. Also remember your pocket and how that's been affected!!! ;) Use some of that money FEE, go out and treat yourself to something that'll make you feel so good.

One thing we girls have to realise is that we go through so many hormonal swings throughout every month and that alone makes a huge difference to how you're feeling today, but tomorrow may be totally different, look ahead!!! Are you around ttotm? If so, it answers why you're blue, if not focus on the rest and then look ahead for a brighter tomorrow...or Monday. Mainly think about we're you might be in x amount of time IF you'd continued to smoke!!!!! If you feel like a bally good cry, have one and let it all out, it'll do you a power of good.

Look at your kiddies FEE and 'see' them later in years - and thank God you'll be able to!!!

Sue - with love and knowledge of how your're feeling. x

FEE, try taking some vit C and B, eat loads of fresh fruit and veg, this will give you a boost. You are still going through detox and this is normal so don't worry about it. If you light up now you'll take yourself straight back to square one.

    Take care xx
