Thank you all. My mum gave me the cig but, I cant blame her because I begged and pleaded. My oh has bought my 3 books to keep me busy. and bless him he went out in the snow and ice and got me some berocca. Its a vit c souluable tab. Has anyone tired it? Its supposed to give you a lift.
I put a patch on last night and have been puffing away on the inhaltor this morning. One of my uncles died of lung cancer and one lost an eye through a tumour. But, I was very young at the time and I think everything was sweetened for me. I have a stop smoking session booked at the mcmillan cancer ctr at trafford general, they are going to frighten me into giving up.
    Thanx again

    Good to see you back.
I am sure you know all the risks of smoking. All smokers do but we choose to ignore them. I always used to think "That won't happen to me because I'll quit soon"
However, when you're addicted to nicotine, it is always tomorrow. Eventually enough was enough and I made a decision to quit smoking then and there (before getting on a 12 hour flight).
The first week is very hard, the second week hard, the 3rd week less hard, etc
You have to want it enough. Good luck.
No-one puts a cigarette in your mouth and lights it. The only thing that does this is your brain. Just remember that your nicotine addiction is fighting for survival (it is petrified that you are going to wave it bye bye) and it well tell you ANYTHING for you to have a ciggie. Ignore it. Realise you are hopelessly addicted, surrender to it, and then the desire to smoke lessens. The craftiest trick the nicotine addiction plays on you is that it tells you a drag won't matter, or you're not addicted too much at the moment, and that you can stop any time.

Berocca is like an ultra strong Vitamin C (but other vitamins as well) tablet. I actually munch theses as I'm not so keen on the drink (well I nibble as with the effervescence it does make me look a bit like I have rabies if I eat too much!).:p

I do find it helps me feel healthier - I take them occasionally if I have a really bad hangover for example!

Hope today is going better for you!

I was watching Paul McKenna last night - "I can make you thin" and he went through this tecnique called tapping which takes away cravings.

    You tap.

Under eye on top of cheek bone 10 times.
    Tap collar bone 10 times.
Tap side of hand 10 times or top of hand
    Look to left
    Look to right
    Rotate eyes completely one way
    Then the next.

This is based on acupressure points and resets the brain to a state of equilibrium.

Thank you for this, great advice :)

They make you want to dance too if you believe the advert! I must admit I always feel slightly better during the day after my Berocca, though I'm quite guilable (sp?)

    Keep going everyone :T:T:T

Graeme thank you for this post I found it very helpful. It is so true what you say To stop, you have to want it enough! This is why I failed many times in the past. I'm on day 5 and still doing ok. I get moments but then pop on here or flick through Allen Carr's book and remind myself I want to stop! I don't want to be a smelly smoker anymore! I can do this, we can do this! This is what we want, don't listen to that little voice in your head that tries to tell you to smoke. It will get better.
Good luck everyone and keep strong.

    hi everyone

i am snowed in today and trying to clear my road to get car out it has certainly been a distraction havent thought too much about " needing" a smoke today and have gotten round to telling my daughter that i havent smoked for 4 days she was very pleased and had wondered why i hadnt asked where my lighter was ( she had borrowed it to light her wee candles in her room) nothing more than that :D

am looking forward to each day at the moment , to think i'm smoke free , but at the same time Im happpy to be taking each day at a time .
I feel so possitive about the whole thing , no longer do I feel i am giving something up like a sign of deprivation but more that i am getting rid of something .....if that makes sense..
as other posters have said boy o boy the smell in my car  . am definately going to treat it to a valet to get the whiff out ...

FRUGALPAM just to say what a fantastic achievement your anniversary coming up on 25th a very big WELL DONE

Hi everybody Im still going strong with determination. Thank you everybody for your wise words. Im going to try that tapping technique, sounds interesting. That berroca (vit c) drink has got me doing extra jobs around the house. So, it cant be a bad thing.

Jo, I forgot to add, that after the sequence of tapping, rolling round of eyes etc. he said to hum a tune too. I just tried it when I started thinking of eating a chocolate biscuit!

I am actually hungry for proper food, not chocolate. Last night I had a mini tantrum over a silly mistake I had made and I had a bit of a sensation of wanting to smoke. It was brief but almost automatic.

    Well done you. :)

Spiritus- When I speak to those that have used the electronic cigarette they have liked it, however I can tell you that it is not the best way of stopping smoking. There are two aspects to quitting: the first is to deal with the addictive element (this is assisted with the use of patches, gum, electronic cig etc) and the second is to deal with the psychological element. If your girlfriend used the electronic cigarette, it is very possible that she wouldn’t be able to overcome this second element. This is because smoking an electronic one is very similar to the real thing- appearance, the vapour, the taste. I also believe the electronic cigarette is not backed by the government.

Research has shown that the most successful way of quitting is a combination of support and completing a course off nicotine replacement products (patches etc) or medication (Champix or Zyban).

    Hope this helps!

    Day 7

Wow - only 2 hours until a full week! My lowest moment today was taking my very elderly Gran to the shops - she hasn't been out for a fortnight! She smokes roll-ups, and I always 'used' to let her smoke in the car, and she just automatically lit up when she got in - she's nearly 80 and it's one of the few pleasures she gets!

Anyway, the smell nearly made me heave, and I just remembered all those freezing cold journeys to work this week to get rid of the stale fag smell ... and there its back already - and I have to start all over again defumigating.

I know you're all going to say tell her not to smoke in the car, but I absolutely wouldn't be able to do that! The only thing I can do is she never smokes when the kids are around / in the car as just never ever been allowed, so will have to drag the kids with me whenever I take her out in future (hee-hee!).

Anyway - I didn't have any major wobbly moments today. Had a twinge when came out of the supermarket, but only a wee one. Leaving work today was fine, and being at work today was fine too. So, all fine!

Am pleased you're back on track Jo. Thanks everyone for keeping me company on this venture!!
