glodh1973- Feeling bloated after chewing the gum is perfectly normal (as is feeling extra gassy!) Are you chewing it like a normal piece of gum, or are you using the 'parking' technique? The parking technique is where after chewing for 20 seconds, you place the gum in between your teeth and gum to enable the nicotine to be absorbed into your blood. You keep it there until it loses it's flavour, then chew it a bit more and pop it back between your tooth and gum. This means less chewing, so less air into your stomach, and hopefully less discomfort!

Apologies if I'm repeating any information you have already heard.

Desert Flyer, you've had another great day and should be feeling SO proud!!

You're doing so well jammy dodger and are really putting everything into practice, be proud!!! At least from today on you're free from all the nicotine - what a blessing that is too! I see like DF you too are doing all that's good for you, but more than that, you're benefiting as a result!! Well done!!

Ceebeeby at the time you find you need the gum then try an apple - at least they're NOT windy!!!

Hi Mollie and good for you with the way you're viewing the stink of the car inside compared to yours! Just about sums it up really eh!

Am I missing something here Mollie? I can't recall a thing - though that could easily be me!

Ah well larmy, I'll certainly be giving the taps a go to see if it takes away my choccie thoughts. Bet you will too! :p

Very many congratulations to you Pam!:T Events such as Christmas are never really easy - unless we have plenty of will-power, I think you must have! ;)

Hi Glo, Roxanne's absolutely correct with her advice on how to use the gum. It's also very true tha gum is always very windy for folk...not that I'd no anything about that!!

Thanks a lot for that Roxanne, we never take offence to anyone putting adviceon for our quitters, and it's far better to risk folk already knowing that to withhold it and them never find out!!

Keep up the terrific work everyone, you're all done so very, very well and have so much to be so chuffed about. You know that with hard work and sticking to things you know will help that you CAN get to the end of this journey!!! :j

I have lapsed  but getting back on track immediately. I felt rotten when I did. I had a stressful couple of days. Thats my excuse and Im sticking to it . Ive been feeling ill because of the effects of smoking. When I stopped I felt so much better. Why do we do this to ourselves? I have to give up for health reasons. Ive got chronic chest problems which are worse in this weather. Also financial reasons are preventing me. So I will make a promise to myself I will not smoke under any circumstances. Everytime I get a craving I will read Sue's message, thank you again sue.

Good Luck Everybody we will suceed.

No to worry Joanne, remember - it's a blip and you now just carry on with your journey as though nothing had happened. Remember also what I said in the PM about writing a list of reasons why you should quit and displaying it everywhere you go during the day; kitchen, living room, bedroom, loo anywhere that you know will grab your attention.

Always remember that cigs cause stress, that is so very true, though I doubted it when a Dr told it to me just before I was going to have an op once. He said that the 1st fag of the day caused the stress for each of us to want another to 'calm' it, but it never happens and just worsens it all. Contrary to what I'd thought, he WAS right and so many quitters on this board have said they don't feel half as tensed up after having finished with fags. Concentrate on what smoking's doing to you, how ill it's making you, though a lot of the time some of that is because we smoke and imagine we have all sorts of illnesses! I did for sure and was convinced, every time I had a pain, that it was cancer due to smoking! Also, my Dad-in-law died due to lung cancer and that had a great effect on me and I was even dreaming that I had it.

If you have got chronic chest problems then you know that quitting's the only way to rid yourself of it all, or at least to make it a whole lot better. I have asthma, and like you, it's far worse through weather such as this, but it'll only go on and on getting worse IF you don't quit and stay quit! I believe you CAN do this Joanne and whatever you feel most of the time - you CAN, and all off us here know you can and want to help you! You're welcome to the help from me Joanne, I love helping you all quit, so why don't we focus on you doing exactly that so that you'll very soon feel so very much better as well as be filling your pockets! It really is amazing how quickly your chest problems improve after quitting, how fast the wheeziness disappears too. OK, onward and upward, and remember what I've said in my PM, I'm here if and when you need me. I want to help you through this, we ALL do...but you have to be there too!!! ;)

Just a blip Joanne, nothing more. Today is a new day - seize it straight away!:A

Just in case you're watching Jo, I've got real PC problems and was in the middle of fixing them...or trying to!! I'm off to bed NOW Jo!!!

    Love, Sue x

  • larmy, the "tapping" you are talking about is called emotional freedom therapy or EFT and is used in loads of different things such as a distraction technique for overcoming anxiety as well as self harm and addiction, I have seen it work and it is really an amazing technique.

I am still doing well, haven't smoked for 3 weeks and 4 days now, I am delighted with my progress and can't believe how my breathing has improved, I haven't even looked at an inhaler since I quit.

Still drinking loads of water and the orange tip was a godsend, its brilliant to have something to do with my hands other than a stress ball

Jo, sorry you had a blip but it does happen and well done for getting back on track again. Just remember how rotten you felt afterwards if you feel yourself going for one again!

    Keep going!

I have a horrible cough and wheeze this morning - think my lungs are starting to clear a bit but it isn't nice!

Never mind JO - only one thing you need to do is, take on board the supreme liar that is nicotine. It will nag and nag at you, convince you it will help, that you deserve it and then what happens? You light up and you feel.................terrible very quickly again, after that first puff!

Don't worry, don't beat yourself up.....get back on the horse, keep posting, and you will soon be free. All the best. X

    Hey Joanne,

It's done now ... back on track and all that! You've got the most to gain from giving up.

Where did you get the evil fag from? If someone gave it to you, tell them not to give you one again, even if you plead!!

Next time you think, arghhh, I'm gonna have one, come on here straight away, and we can try and talk you out of it!!

Good luck for today everyone xx

To stop feeling like a failure, try stopping again.
Action is required, not thinkings or feelings.

I love this straight talking and its the truth. I can remember on previous quits when I had given in, not only was I being duped by nicotine, I can remember resenting people telling me to keep going - I wanted them to tell me it was OK to start smoking again!!!!!!!:D

Thank you all. My mum gave me the cig but, I cant blame her because I begged and pleaded. My oh has bought my 3 books to keep me busy. and bless him he went out in the snow and ice and got me some berocca. Its a vit c souluable tab. Has anyone tired it? Its supposed to give you a lift.
I put a patch on last night and have been puffing away on the inhaltor this morning. One of my uncles died of lung cancer and one lost an eye through a tumour. But, I was very young at the time and I think everything was sweetened for me. I have a stop smoking session booked at the mcmillan cancer ctr at trafford general, they are going to frighten me into giving up.
    Thanx again
