  • Hi there

Today was Day 15 of not smoking and the strange thing is that I'm finding it easier as the days go by. I'm enjoying that things smell better and that I smell better. I'm sure there will be more rough days to come, but at the moment I'm fairly happy with myself.

The problem is that I gave up for 2 yrs previously, then my younger brother passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly, and then again for 2 yrs until my mom passed away really suddenly and unexpectedly six months ago and that set me off again big time. I know that I could have done things differently, but I chose to smoke again. I also know that these two things are not the reason I smoked but that it seems to be my way of coping with trauma in my life.

Maybe this time it'll be for good, but I hate to say that I'll never smoke again because I know how easy it is for me to reach for the fags whenever anything bad happens, I just have to be stronger this time and remember why I quit in the first place, and the sad thing is that I quit initially because my mom really encouraged and helped me when I told her I wanted to stop smoking and I found it easier to quit with her support and I know that she would be so upset if she knew that I was smoking again and she was so proud of the fact that I was managing so well.

I just wanted to get that off my chest lol, hope no one minds. All the best to everyone. Take care and be strong.

    Cheers

Wonderful news of you being free for 3 weeks & 4 days Bruce, very well done! :T Chuffed to bits for you. I can understand how you feel about your breathing being so improved as it's one of the first things I noticed too.... and what a relief!! Good to read about the tapping too, I should have remembered that when I had a sweet tooth moment last night! Great news of the effect of the water and orange treatment on you, as you say, good for the hands too.

A horrible cough and wheeze can either go or start when we quit Desert Flyer. Same old thing about us all being individuals, some need the cough etc to make the lungs productive and get rid of all the muck and rubbish they've harboured for years. As with a chest infection though, it is vile, but you'll feel so much better after you've got rid of it all.

All the very best Joanne! Your OH obviously thinks the world of you and knows you want to quit. Never heard of the Berocca, but if it helps you, then so be it. :j

Well done Graeme, you told that perfectly!:T

I'm not saying a word Jo!! Though, you gullible??? Can't be so surely!

Congratulations for not having smoked for 4 days Jammy Dodger!! To a non-smoker that may be trivial, to all of us we realise just what a long way that it is, so very well done indeed!!:T I'll bet your young lass is so proud of you! :D

Hi spiritus, I've no idea of how good the e cigarette's are, but if your girlfriend thinks it might help, then I'd let her have a try. However, I've just seen Roxanne's post about it, have a look at it and go from there. All the very best to her though!

Congratulations on a completed week ceebeeby!!! :T What a celebration it is too so give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back for all you've achieved so far!! I can honestly understand what you mean about your dear Gran, so whenever possible take one of the kiddies to help things!

Oh how sad Casper, I can see why you ceased to quit on both occasions as grief is something so hard hard to cope with. However, remember how desperately your Mum wanted you to quit and hang on to it. I'm sure she's watching from above and will still be giving you all the strength she can from above, so why not bear her in mind and show her you CAN do it!! Don't think to yourself "I'll never smoke again" just start each day with "I'm not going to smoke today" then renew that promise to yourself every new day. Keep drinking water, eating clemenitines, zat sumas or any sort of fresh oranges and get yourself plenty of excercise, those are the 3 fundamentals, I promise you! I thought it was a great idea to get it all off your chest and anytime you want to do so, please do as you'd be surprised how it all helps. So, you've made it to Day 7 and that is wonderful news!!! You're doing marvellously Casper, well done indeed!!!

All is going so very, very well folks, so much to be proud of and so far many of you have travelled already. You should all be as happy as larks at how far you've come already!!! :T You all know you CAN beat this...and that you WILL!!

All the very best to each and everyone of you!!!

  • Hi everyone

I'm glad to see we're all still going strong. It's so helpful to know I'm not on my own with this...well done everybody!

I've been healthy eating and have already lost 2 of the 3 pounds I gained during my quit. I'm pleased and think the gain was just a temporary blip. However, I've now remembered how good healthy eating can make you feel and I've signed up for the challenge to lose a bit more weight.

I figured I may as well try and feel as good as I possibly can. I just can't believe how much more energy I have since quit.

Good luck to everyone on their quits. It does get easier.

  • 5 days down and feeling much better. Really looking forward to being able to say I have done a week! I find setting time goals really helpful, but maybe that is just me, gradually increasing the time between like 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month.

Even did a bit more exercise and feeling much better for it all! I hope everyone else is enjoying feelign healthier in the New Year!

I find I'm thinking about it more now, rather than my body having a craving so it is psychological from now on!

Keep going everyone and well done so far!

    Day 8

Well, that's a week past ... and still okay, although have had a few leg tapping moments earlier when needed to get something done quickly.

Have had another bad food day though - picking on sweets and cheese (the two worst things!) - I even took a salad for work, but they were work freebies at lunchtime! Now feel fat and bad!!!

    Arghhhhh!

    Hi all

Three weeks today without a smoke - still on patches though. Doesn't really feel any easier at this stage than it was say, a week in. Am I wrong to think that every day should be easier than the previous? I just seem to have hit a "plateau" i.e. I don't feel any worse but I don't feel any better either.

Also, I've developed a cough. Not the chesty type that I was half expecting, but an irritating very dry ticklish one. Not too troublesome, but I just wondered if this is normal.

    Kind wishes to all..........

    Hi Boys & Girls,

I went to the doctors yesterday regarding a medical issue.

However whilst I was there she asked me if i smoked etc and asked if id ever considered giving up and asked me if i wanted to attend the smoking clinic.

Ive agreed and got an appointment for Monday. I told the doctor i have tried to give up a few years ago using patches however they used to give me terrible nightmares.

The doctor has suggested taking a course of zyban. Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with zyban as researching on the net there seems to be alot of side effects. I just wondered if any other users could share there experiences.
